[00:23:20] <wjp> time for me to go
[00:23:25] <wjp> I'll be back in a week or so
[00:23:47] <wjp> Fingolfin: good luck on the NWEPC
[00:23:47] <wjp> bye
[00:23:52] <Fingolfin> thanks

[05:41:16] <sbx> hi Darke
[05:42:32] <Darke> Hi.
[05:44:32] <sbx> did you just play U8 starting yesterday?
[06:18:37] <Darke> Not really. I only started it up to check a few things. *grin*
[06:19:28] <Darke> 1) It's waaaaaay to low resolution to play 'properly'. I think I'm too used to looking at the maps in mapdisp. *grin* 2) The font really, truely, is so close to being unreadable it's not funny. *Grin*
[06:54:35] --> Colourless has joined #Exult
[06:54:35] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to Colourless
[06:54:59] <Colourless> hi
[06:55:16] <Darke> Hi.
[06:56:26] <sbx> hi
[06:57:23] <sbx> Darke: have you played it before?
[06:57:37] <Darke> sbx: Nope.
[06:58:05] * sbx only played for a little bit after enterying and exploring the city.
[06:58:26] <sbx> entering
[07:04:46] * Darke is randomly walking around the city. U8 is surprisngly 'jerky' for some reason.
[07:05:40] <Colourless> the u8 engine isn't really that smooth
[07:06:18] <Colourless> with pentagram i implemented smooth scrolling
[07:06:45] <Darke> It also plays much more like crusader then previous ultimas, especially with having to turn around before walking in a new direction. *grin*
[07:07:08] <Colourless> actually you only do that when running
[07:07:12] <sbx> i dont remember having to turn in u8
[07:07:16] <sbx> ah
[07:07:26] <Colourless> you can do sharp turns (90 degrees or more) when walking
[07:07:37] <Colourless> or if you are running you can turn 45 degrees without stopping
[07:07:48] <Darke> You also do that when standing still.
[07:07:56] <Darke> (having to turn)
[07:09:11] <Colourless> actually you can never do a sharp turn
[07:09:26] <Colourless> you can only ever turn 45 degrees at a time
[07:10:22] <sbx> i remember being annoying at the controls for Crusader at first but i started to like them after a while
[07:12:50] <sbx> annoyed
[07:47:09] <-- Colourless has left IRC ("casts invisibility")
[07:49:13] --> blair has joined #exult
[07:49:27] <blair> Hi everyone :)
[07:49:55] <Darke> Hiya!
[07:50:15] <blair> nice to meet u :)
[07:50:29] <blair> Darke, a u staff of Exult?
[07:50:38] <blair> Darke, r u staff of Exult?
[07:50:57] <Darke> Technically yes, though I haven't done any coding on exult for a while. *grin*
[07:51:21] <blair> Exult is very amazing Program. :)
[07:51:43] <blair> How can they made it for four years? :o
[07:52:12] <Darke> No idea. You'll have to ask Dr Code about that, I've only been here the last year or two. *grin*
[07:52:34] <blair> Darke do you like ultima series? :)
[07:53:06] <Darke> Yep. *grin* You'd have to to work on exult.
[07:54:37] <blair> Thanks, but i can't use programing language. :(
[07:54:56] <blair> Darke where r u from? :)
[07:55:18] * Darke points to the domain he's coming from. Australia. *grin*
[07:55:44] <blair> oh.. Australia... I'm from Republic of korea. :)
[07:56:02] <Darke> Neat!
[07:56:44] <blair> I have a question. :)
[07:57:07] <Darke> *earperk* Yes?
[07:57:16] <blair> Origin Systems close really? :|
[07:57:49] <Darke> For all intents and purposes. They got absorbed into EA, and now only produce Ultima Online.
[07:58:05] <blair> hmm... :|
[07:58:06] <blair> I should like to meet him again.
[07:58:31] <blair> For example, Wing Commander Series or Ultima Series....
[07:58:45] <blair> Or Crusader Series... :)
[07:59:20] <blair> I enjoyed really interestingly them. :)
[07:59:38] * Darke nods. He'd like to see another WC/Ultima/Crusader game. But doesn't expect it'll ever happen. Especially not for Ultima, since Lord Brittish would certainly have to be involved and he's got another company now.
[08:00:04] <blair> How do you think about EA? :)
[08:00:27] <blair> I am troubled because they seem to keep exclusive possession structure.
[08:02:39] <Darke> They're annoying and rather irrational. That and the right hand doesn't seem to know what the left hand is doing in that company. *grin* But currently there's a few peoples with game companies having problems making a profit. No doubt they'd be less protective of their 'intelectual property', so there's a possibility of someone making it for them. *shrug* No idea though really.
[08:02:53] <Darke> s/peoples/problems/
[08:03:15] * Darke thinks he's rather incoherent today. *grin*
[08:05:03] <blair> hmm... allright.. :)
[08:06:30] <blair> What is game that you enjoy the latest?
[08:09:17] <Darke> Umm... none in particular. I've been starting too many games recently and not finishing them. *grin* The 'best' recently that I've finished would have to be 'Mech Commander 2'.
[08:10:28] <blair> oh really? :)
[08:10:47] <blair> I'd play that game, Mech Commander 2. :)
[08:11:18] <blair> She seems cold-hearted fellow.
[08:11:34] <blair> Oh She is Katrina Steiner... :¤Ä
[08:11:38] <blair> :p
[08:11:47] <Darke> Yep. *grin*
[08:12:19] <blair> What part do you like? Graphic or Storyline? :)
[08:13:45] <Darke> Gameplay actually. *grin* The storyline wasn't too bad, nor were the graphics. I picked up the game because I happen to like how the original played, and like the general gameplay of similar games.
[08:14:36] <blair> oh.. yes... :)
[08:15:36] <sbx> eh... what happened to Colourless?
[08:16:01] <Darke> He quit. Probably had work to do or something. *grin*
[08:16:08] <blair> I will leave to this extent. I have event that do now. :)
[08:16:15] <blair> If we meet again in this room, Let's deliver greeting each other. :)
[08:16:21] <Darke> Bye! *grin*
[08:16:25] <blair> Have a good day & good luck :)

[08:17:35] <sbx> i wonder if he meant Colonel Blair?
[08:18:48] <Darke> How do you mean?
[08:19:21] <sbx> his nick
[08:19:29] <sbx> if it referred to Wing Commander :A)
[08:19:34] <sbx> :-)
[08:20:09] * Darke ahhs. Never played that.
[08:32:02] <sbx> would you ever like to?
[08:32:19] <sbx> or is that not your type of game
[08:35:32] <Darke> I'd probably play it if they released one now. But AFAICT, I can't see how it could be 'better' then Tachyon or Edge of Chaos 2, IMO the two best space flight sims with plot. *grin*
[08:36:06] <sbx> and I have never played those...
[08:36:18] <sbx> But I don't play many video games.
[08:41:21] <sbx> Do you know what endgame.skf is?
[08:41:26] <sbx> In ultima8
[08:42:58] <Darke> The endgame animation? Maybe rename it to the starting animation and it might play.
[08:43:30] <sbx> have you decoded it? is it just a flic?
[08:44:03] <sbx> it contains some DOS environment strings

[10:53:31] <sbx> hello
[11:37:32] <Colourless> so, is exultbot going to leave once again like what happened the last time wjp diasppeared?

[12:28:31] <Fingolfin> yo even =)
[12:28:35] <sbx> oy
[12:28:38] <sbx> hello
[12:30:40] <Darke> Hi!
[12:44:11] --> jtool12 has joined #exult
[12:45:30] <jtool12> anyone?
[12:48:31] <Darke> Maybe.
[12:48:31] <Darke> Hi!
[12:48:39] <sbx> hello
[12:48:46] <jtool12> Hi!
[12:49:13] <jtool12> what are the ogg vorbis files for exult 1.1.x? the midi musics?
[12:49:35] <sbx> no they are digital audio
[12:49:41] <sbx> recorded from an MT-32 i think, with reverb
[12:49:54] <jtool12> they are musics or effects?
[12:49:58] <sbx> music
[12:50:03] <sbx> for BG and SI
[12:50:12] <jtool12> ok, so they replace the midi musics isn't it?
[12:50:32] <sbx> Yeah, you can use either.
[12:50:52] <jtool12> ok. do you know who did them?
[12:51:52] <sbx> Simon Quinn?
[12:52:10] <jtool12> u guys know him?
[12:52:11] <sbx> I think that is the person who recorded them. The original UltimaVII composers created the music originally.
[12:52:36] <sbx> I've only seen him a few times.
[12:52:38] <jtool12> yes i meant the guy who recorded the musics in ogg. format
[12:52:42] <jtool12> k
[12:53:16] <jtool12> do you know guys if general midi 2 is compatible with general midi?
[12:53:19] <-- Darke has left IRC (capek.freenode.net irc.freenode.net)
[12:53:27] --> Darke has joined #exult
[12:54:35] <jtool12> ok yes i think it is, just saw that on the web
[12:56:41] <jtool12> do you know where i can get the U7 part 1 and 2 musics in midi format?
[12:58:58] <sbx> I have them but I don't remember where I got them.
[12:59:25] <jtool12> okay. i'd like to try to render them in ogg vorbis with high quality instruments
[12:59:35] <sbx> why?
[12:59:43] <jtool12> then if it's better than what you already have, i'll send them to you guys for exult
[13:00:57] <sbx> oh
[13:01:17] <sbx> they shouldn't be too difficult to find on the web
[13:01:39] <jtool12> yeah i'll try that. i'd like to be sure to find the original musics though
[13:01:56] <sbx> you can get those from your static data
[13:02:05] <jtool12> how?
[13:02:18] <sbx> hmm I have no idea :-)
[13:02:21] * sbx points to Colourless.
[13:02:27] <jtool12> hehe
[13:02:38] <jtool12> i'll ask him when he's there
[13:02:41] <sbx> he is here
[13:02:57] <sbx> I just know that Exult can write a mid file to play and I am able to play it with playmidi.
[13:03:51] * Colourless isn't actually here for now
[13:03:57] <sbx> :-/
[13:04:32] <Colourless> but i will say this, there isn't an easy way to get the songs out of the static dir into a 'useful' format with gm instruments
[13:04:58] <jtool12> Hi Colourless
[13:05:12] <Colourless> you can of course always just used the music player in Exult (Alt-1)
[13:05:28] <jtool12> what do you mean useful? if you mean all the channels are mixed on a single one, that's no problem, i can demangle them
[13:08:17] <jtool12> i mean i can split one track - mutliple channel midi file into a one track per channel file
[13:10:09] <jtool12> hmm i can't get the ogg. files from the exult download page.... server seems down
[13:10:46] <sbx> i havn't played exult in a long time
[13:11:57] <jtool12> do you guys know this site: http://www.ultimalives.com/midi.htm, looks like it has all the midi files
[13:12:13] <jtool12> shit there are 54 musics for the black gate :))
[13:13:31] <sbx> there are 59 oggs for it
[13:13:44] <jtool12> wow :)
