[00:58:23] --> kefka has joined #exult
[03:31:32] <-- kefka has left IRC ("Client Exiting")
[03:33:04] --> Kirben has joined #exult
[03:33:04] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to Kirben
[05:06:19] --> Darke has joined #exult
[05:06:19] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to Darke
[05:06:38] * Darke greetingsbows.
[05:22:40] <Kirben> Hi Darke
[05:29:59] <Kirben> Not as often as exult but compiles fine when I tried earlier
[05:31:32] <Darke> It gives me this error when I type `make`:
[05:31:33] <Darke> Makefile:35: audio/midi_drivers/module.mk: No such file or directory
[05:31:33] <Darke> make: *** No rule to make target `audio/midi_drivers/module.mk'. Stop.
[05:33:32] * Darke guesses something is wrong with the linux Makefile. Either that or it's some sort of checkout problem...
[05:33:56] <Kirben> yes sounds like problem with new build system.
[05:35:18] <Kirben> The win32 makefiles been static is very helpful sometimes.
[05:40:20] * Darke nods.
[06:16:49] --> kefka has joined #exult
[06:20:59] * Darke bows, "Hi."
[06:25:00] <kefka> Hi
[08:49:39] <-- kefka has left IRC ("Client Exiting")
[09:20:46] --> Wumpus has joined #exult
[09:21:24] * Wumpus siddles in and bows to those present
[09:23:00] * Darke bows, "Hello Wumpus."
[09:23:57] * Wumpus crosses a non-bug off his list and ponders getting new version of exult to see if a real bug has already been fix0red
[09:27:30] <Darke> Well, the current version in cvs compiles. <grin> So it may be worth it.
[09:29:07] * Wumpus hasn't updated in more than two weeks, phw0ah ;-p
[09:30:31] * Darke hasn't done anything to the code, except fix the namespace 'bugs' and such in the last two weeks. This Job Search Training he's going to seems to be sapping his time and energy.
[09:31:26] <Wumpus> ooh, you're doing a training thing? hmm
[09:31:40] * Darke grumbles. Yes.
[09:32:50] <Wumpus> not fun?
[09:34:58] <Darke> It's not too bad. It's only 2-3 hours every day for three weeks. And I've got a good 'teacher' doing it, who's fairly flexable. It's just the waking up, and being reminded that you _still_ don't have a job, at 8am in the morning, then having that on your mind all day, is... annoying.
[09:35:57] <Wumpus> hehe :P and supposedly spending the afternoon searching for a job? ;-p
[09:36:40] <Darke> Something like that. Whereas I spend the rest of the afternoon feeling somewhat depressed and lifeless, then search for jobs at 10pm at night, once I'm finally awake.
[09:38:37] <Wumpus> lol
[09:40:27] <Darke> Also, by actually _doing_ this training, they're forcing me to do less job searching. Since I normally finish searching/applying around 2am, yet I've been going to bed at 12-1am the last couple of weeks, since I have to wake up 'early'. <sigh> It's just so very, very stupid.
[09:41:55] <Wumpus> :)
[09:44:50] * Wumpus really ought to get on with translating his CV, hmphm
[09:45:01] * Wumpus 's technical German is too seedy, though :-(
[09:45:15] <Wumpus> (so it takes forever)
[09:46:52] * Darke grins.
[09:47:35] <Darke> Tried just running it through babbalfish, then correcting the 'mistakes' of grammar and translation? It might be quicker. <grin>
[09:47:49] <Wumpus> hell no
[09:47:55] <Wumpus> babelfish sucks, i find
[09:48:14] <Wumpus> except for really trivial things
[09:48:25] <Darke> Fair enough. Not even good enough to translate the 'techincal' terms?
[09:48:30] <Wumpus> it'd be like doing a word-for-word translation using the dictionary, for the most part ;-p
[09:49:27] <Darke> In which case, why not just run the thing through babbelfish, snip out the technical terms it translates, and do the bulk of the 'easy' translation work yourself? <grin>
[09:49:45] <Wumpus> darke- well, German tends to have more specific terms than english does, as far as i see it... got three dictionaries around me :-)
[09:49:58] <Wumpus> (English -> German, German -> English, and, uhh, German -> German :P)
[09:50:32] <Wumpus> *shrug*, yeah, i give it ssome of the technical stuff to chew over, and sometimes its good enough ;-p
[09:50:55] <Wumpus> hmm
[09:51:15] * Wumpus notes that `fluent' really does translate as the german word for "flowing"... that sounds so wrong to me
[09:51:26] <Wumpus> d'oh
[09:51:31] * Darke has noticed German is much more 'specific' then english. It's one of the reasons he found it easy to learn the language (for small values of 'learn') and why he likes it.
[09:51:32] * Wumpus wonders what the tex is for sharp-s
[09:52:32] <Wumpus> :-)
[09:53:02] <Darke> Sharp-s? No idea. <grin>
[09:53:17] <Wumpus> you know, beta :P
[09:53:28] <Wumpus> actually, d'uh
[09:53:34] <Wumpus> that would do, but there's probably a better way
[09:54:55] * Wumpus solves some translation problems by cutting parts out... well, this needed to be culled down anyway ;-p
[09:55:18] <Darke> <grin> That's one way of 'solving' a problem anyway.
[09:58:35] <Wumpus> well there is a lot of crap in this :P
[10:00:53] <Darke> There always is, it's a CV/Resume isn't it? <grin>
[10:01:16] <Wumpus> ah, \ss{}
[10:01:22] <Wumpus> darke- hmm, true ;-p but brief is good :)
[10:02:42] <Darke> Agreed. <grin> No more then 3 pages is the optimal size apparently, and creating a condensed 1 page resume is also occasionally beneficial. See, I _did_ learn something on this Job Training! <grin>
[10:03:46] <Wumpus> :-) I was actually aiming for two :P
[10:04:10] <Wumpus> something else to amuse, is that some conventions are different in different countries, fun
[10:06:12] <Darke> Indeed. <nod> One guy in the class was lamenting the fact that in the .us, your resume is apparently meant to be 'out there' like if you were a marketer agressively advertising a product. Whereas in .au, writing a resmue like that will give the employers the impression that you're arrogant of 'full of yourself'. <grin>
[10:10:30] <Wumpus> :-) ya
[10:10:44] * Wumpus grumbles
[10:10:50] <Wumpus> actually, hmm
[10:11:08] * Wumpus wonders if ispell has a german module which would understand tex stuff like \:a etc...
[10:20:42] <Wumpus> eg, how on earth would you translate 'language binding' (EG, there is a CORBA binding for C, Java, etc)
[10:20:57] * Wumpus hmms and realizes how to gfind out ;-p
[10:23:39] <Wumpus> oh great
[10:23:44] * Darke earperks.
[10:23:57] <Wumpus> Für diese Sprachen definiert die OMG im Laufe der Zeit Language Mappings, die angeben ...
[10:24:01] <Wumpus> ??!
[10:24:08] * Wumpus wonders what happened there
[10:24:19] <Wumpus> F\:ur diese Sprachen definiert die OMG im Laufe der Zeit Language Mappings, die angeben ...
[10:24:36] * Wumpus points to "Language Mappings" ... *sigh*
[10:25:00] * Darke grins, he noticed.
[10:25:50] <Wumpus> (its quoted, or rather italicized, on the page, too :-()
[10:25:55] <Wumpus> oh well, *shrug*
[10:26:10] <Darke> AKA. "We don't have any idea either."
[10:27:08] <Wumpus> :-)
[10:27:23] <Wumpus> ooh, yay, there is haskell.de ...
[10:34:10] <Wumpus> good grief
[10:34:46] <Wumpus> libraries (like libc, xlib, etc) are literrally called Bibliotheken in german (IE, same as the place where you go and borrow books)
[10:35:02] * Darke aieees! and hides under the couch. Not Haskell!
[10:35:24] * Darke snickers.
[10:35:35] <Wumpus> Haskell gooooodd!!!
[10:55:54] <Wumpus> wtf is a bug, i wonder
[10:56:01] <Wumpus> fehler, i suppose, will do, hmm
[10:56:51] * Darke snickers.
[10:58:07] <Wumpus> Open Source would be Open Source, i suppose, hmm... *growl*
[10:58:28] <Darke> Yes. <grin> It's a buzzword now I think. It can be in english.
[10:58:38] <Wumpus> eww @ buzzword :P
[11:00:57] * Darke shrugs. He's seen it used as a buzzword far too many times.
[11:03:49] * Wumpus doesn't like buzzwords :P
[11:04:13] * Darke doesn't either.
[11:05:26] <Wumpus> now here's one i'm almost certain there's a very precise german word for- tutoring. In english, it encompasses various things, but I get the strong feeling there's a word for exactly what i have done. EG, babelfish gives me Privatunterricht (lit: private lessons), which isn't quite the right sense.
[11:05:29] * Wumpus sighs
[11:05:32] <Wumpus> translating is not fun :-(
[11:06:14] <Darke> Agreed, and agreed. <grin>
[11:07:27] <Wumpus> oh i see
[11:07:30] <Wumpus> Tutor ;-p
[11:07:53] <Wumpus> (according to my dictionary, anyway... it has various senses, and in one case `(Univ:) Tutor' ...
[11:08:08] * Darke grins. An assimilated word then?
[11:08:15] <Wumpus> *shrug* I suppose so :-)
[11:08:22] <Wumpus> there's quite a few of those ;-p
[11:09:24] * Darke nodnodnodnodnods. Lots!
[11:36:06] <Wumpus> hmm
[11:36:17] <Wumpus> BabelFish Error 3014
[11:37:21] * Darke blinkblinks.
[11:49:46] * Wumpus puts a sharp stick just in front of darke's eye
[11:55:54] * Wumpus opens a shimmering portal in the ceiling and climbs through it, g'night all
[11:56:00] <-- Wumpus has left IRC ("gone")
[11:59:16] --> kefka has joined #exult
[12:39:36] --> Cless|Away has joined #Exult

[12:54:58] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to wjp
[12:55:19] <wjp> Darke: that missing audio/midi_drivers/module.mk is probably because Fingolfin forgot to commit it
[12:55:27] <Colourless> hi
[12:55:29] <wjp> Darke: just create an empty file with that name to fix it
[12:55:30] <wjp> hi
[12:55:48] * wjp has to go again...
[12:55:49] <wjp> bye :-)
[12:55:52] <-- wjp has left IRC (Client Quit)

[17:45:47] <wjp> hi
[17:49:13] <wjp> Fingolfin: question for you on the forum ("Any chance of beta2 for OSX?")
[17:49:57] * Fingolfin surfs
[17:51:46] <wjp> hm, cvs kind of gets confused at the existance of a Makefile in the pentagram directory
[17:54:49] <Fingolfin> hmmmmmmm
[17:54:56] <Fingolfin> does it?
[17:55:04] <wjp> cvs server: conflict: Makefile is modified but no longer in the repository
[17:55:16] <Fingolfin> oh, well, your old one
[17:55:30] <Fingolfin> rming it, then a cvs update doesn't help?
[17:56:17] <wjp> strange. I thought I tried that already
[17:56:20] <wjp> ah well
[17:56:30] <wjp> works now, in any case
