[00:15:00] <-- insta has left IRC ("brb")
[00:53:08] <-- Dark-Star has left #exult ()
[01:12:21] --> RonC has joined #exult
[01:12:27] <RonC> hi
[03:30:11] --> Yuv422 has joined #exult
[03:33:34] <-- RonC has left IRC (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))
[04:08:41] --> ShadwChsr has joined #exult
[04:17:13] --- ChanServ removes channel operator status from DarkeZzz
[04:28:34] <ShadwChsr> anyone here? :)
[04:29:04] <Yuv422> hey
[04:29:22] <Yuv422> how's things?
[04:31:23] <ShadwChsr> good
[04:31:24] <ShadwChsr> you?
[04:31:36] <Yuv422> yeah I'm good.
[04:31:51] <Yuv422> just working on my tile loading class.
[04:31:57] <Yuv422> for U6.
[04:32:39] <ShadwChsr> You're making a u6 game?
[04:32:50] <Yuv422> remaking U6.
[04:33:07] <ShadwChsr> using what?
[04:33:20] <ShadwChsr> custom built engine? exult?
[04:33:34] <Yuv422> or should I say re-coding U6
[04:33:49] <ShadwChsr> ahh.. like exult then
[04:33:53] <Yuv422> it will be what exult is to U7. but to U6 :)
[04:34:06] <ShadwChsr> I wonder if you can upgrade the UI in U6 to be more like U7
[04:34:08] <Yuv422> heheh no ware near ready yet.
[04:34:12] <ShadwChsr> larger viewing area, etc
[04:34:31] <Yuv422> I plan to support a larger map window.
[04:34:44] <ShadwChsr> yeah get rid of all the useless UI :)
[04:34:53] <ShadwChsr> Maybe even program the conversations so it shows the keywords like in U7
[04:34:57] <Yuv422> and gradiented shading for night and day. :)
[04:35:22] <Yuv422> can't do that as keywords are ment to be unknown.
[04:35:29] <Yuv422> if you get what I mean.
[04:35:32] <ShadwChsr> yeah but IMHO games like that suck
[04:35:32] <ShadwChsr> :)
[04:35:44] <ShadwChsr> lets spend 50 hours typing in random keywords.. :P
[04:35:44] <ShadwChsr> hehe
[04:35:50] <Yuv422> it would be hard to work out what keywords the user should see.
[04:36:00] <ShadwChsr> yeah :(
[04:36:33] <ShadwChsr> Have you ever heard of some weird game called furcadia?
[04:36:36] <Yuv422> I could have "name, job, bye" buttons :)
[04:36:42] <Yuv422> nope.
[04:37:02] <ShadwChsr> apparently two of the people who worked on U6 (dr cat? and someone else..) built some free multiplayer "game"
[04:37:22] <Yuv422> cool
[04:37:27] <ShadwChsr> its kind of boring but it plays "exactially" like an isometric version of u6
[04:38:38] <ShadwChsr> Why not do something new? :)
[04:39:21] <Yuv422> because I've always liked U6. :)
[04:39:32] <ShadwChsr> Yeah but it's still playable ;)
[04:39:48] <Yuv422> heheh but I'm on a mac. :)
[04:40:01] <ShadwChsr> ah
[04:40:12] <DarkeZzz> (Furcadia) It's not too bad if all you're after is a graphical social mud. *grin*
[04:40:25] <ShadwChsr> yeah furcadia gets boring after about 3 minutes
[04:40:26] <ShadwChsr> ;P
[04:40:36] <ShadwChsr> wooo I can walk around
[04:40:37] <ShadwChsr> ;)
[04:41:02] <DarkeZzz> If you're going there to talk and roleplay it's fun, otherwise, nope. *grin*
[04:41:05] <Yuv422> sounds like it might be fun.
[04:41:06] <ShadwChsr> I've converted a few furcadia modders/graphic artists over to (my) dark side ;)
[04:42:48] <ShadwChsr> some of the dreams are cool
[04:42:53] <ShadwChsr> dreams are user created "levels"
[04:42:57] <ShadwChsr> with custom graphics
[04:45:00] <ShadwChsr> haha I wonder what happened to those worldforge people
[04:45:01] <ShadwChsr> ;)
[04:45:26] <ShadwChsr> "yeah lets make a text based and 2d isometric and 3d engine all using the same server!"
[04:45:27] <ShadwChsr> ;)
[04:45:34] <DarkeZzz> Dunno. I presume they're still hacking away.
[05:01:29] <ShadwChsr> I wonder what ever happened to the *original* UO
[05:01:42] <ShadwChsr> The cool one they had based on the U8 engine before rewriting the nasty one :)
[05:01:57] <ShadwChsr> well, not as good, anyways
[05:03:01] <Yuv422> I never played UO as it was too slow from australia :(
[05:03:30] <ShadwChsr> I played it for a month
[05:03:32] <ShadwChsr> ;)
[05:03:39] <ShadwChsr> It was probably cool way back when it came out
[05:03:55] <ShadwChsr> now all of britannia has been chopped down and its a sea of thousands of houses in supposedly the middle of nowhere
[05:04:15] <ShadwChsr> so basically the entire game right now is wandering around people's houses aimlessly
[05:04:44] <ShadwChsr> stupid user housing, havent they ever heard of an inn?? :P
[05:05:33] <Yuv422> isn't that like real life? everyone wants their own place. :)
[05:05:57] <Yuv422> can't see why britania would be any different.
[05:06:14] <ShadwChsr> Yeah except the game world wasn't designed for it
[05:06:24] <ShadwChsr> so instead of having them in towns, they placed them in the middle of nowhere
[05:06:32] <ShadwChsr> so **all** of britannia is housing
[05:06:34] <ShadwChsr> its horrible
[05:06:37] <Yuv422> it must look a bit strange.
[05:06:40] <ShadwChsr> yeah
[05:09:55] <ShadwChsr> I just love all their early doctored screenshots :)
[05:10:17] <ShadwChsr> monsters talking and stuff
[05:10:18] <ShadwChsr> lol
[05:13:59] <ShadwChsr> Question:
[05:14:21] <ShadwChsr> In "normal" isometric games, are the X, Y, and Z distances "equal"?
[05:14:39] <ShadwChsr> I know in UO they are because they have that weird "incorrect" perspective, but what about other isometric games?
[05:15:12] <Yuv422> not sure.
[05:16:09] <Yuv422> I can't remember what the mathematical definition is.
[05:19:55] * ShadwChsr nods
[06:01:53] <-- ShadwChsr has left IRC ()
[06:31:41] <-- Matt_O has left IRC ("Client Exiting")
[06:48:22] --> ShadwChsr has joined #exult
[06:48:27] <ShadwChsr> hello yet again
[06:48:39] <ShadwChsr> Yuv... so you're a "switcher"? :)
[06:48:57] <Yuv422> sure am. I switched from linux to OS X :)
[06:49:08] <ShadwChsr> ahhhhh good move!
[06:49:08] <ShadwChsr> :)
[06:49:21] <ShadwChsr> so you're learning how to program macs?
[06:49:40] <Yuv422> yeah mac programming with cocoa is easy. :)
[06:49:47] <ShadwChsr> Cool
[06:49:49] <ShadwChsr> :)
[06:49:59] <ShadwChsr> How far into your U6 project are yoU?
[06:50:39] <Yuv422> not very far.
[06:51:05] <ShadwChsr> Did you help with exult or is this just something you started on your own, ie/ inspired by the exult team? :)
[06:51:14] <Yuv422> at the moment all it does is display the background image then quit. ;)
[06:51:20] <ShadwChsr> :)
[06:51:28] <ShadwChsr> How long have you been programming
[06:51:29] <ShadwChsr> ?
[06:51:31] <Yuv422> yeah I've not had any involvement with exult development.
[06:51:39] <Yuv422> too long ;)
[06:51:43] <ShadwChsr> ahh ;)
[06:51:51] <ShadwChsr> Have you heard about what I'm doing?
[06:51:59] <Kirben> Will u6 project be open source ? on sf ?
[06:52:07] <Yuv422> yes
[06:52:20] <Yuv422> when the code is in a less hacky state. ;)
[06:52:48] <Yuv422> hopefully people will decide to help out *wink*
[06:53:17] <Yuv422> what is your project ShadwChsr?
[06:53:25] <Yuv422> was it an iso game engine?
[06:53:36] * ShadwChsr nods
[06:53:47] <Yuv422> cool
[06:54:23] <ShadwChsr> I'd really like to get more people involved so it makes more progress though
[06:54:29] <ShadwChsr> but maybe I'm just greedy :)
[06:54:41] <ShadwChsr> Theres no good, free isometric engines out there that aren't remakes
[06:55:03] <ShadwChsr> I want to do something new and fun, similar to other games, but not just the same old thing
[06:55:16] <Yuv422> well hopefully you'll corner the market with your project. :)
[06:55:23] <ShadwChsr> I want to build a world, basically, and no one has a tool out there to do it
[06:55:28] <ShadwChsr> So I got fed up and started to build one
[06:55:37] <ShadwChsr> And I got a LOT farther than I expected, lol
[06:55:51] <ShadwChsr> Started off as a bored rainy sunday seeing if I could display a graphic in directdraw ;)
[06:55:56] <ShadwChsr> Now I have maps I can walk around ;)
[06:56:17] <Yuv422> is it win32 only?
[06:56:23] <ShadwChsr> Depends
[06:56:24] <ShadwChsr> :)
[06:56:34] <ShadwChsr> I wrote the code so that most of the api calls are isolated
[06:56:46] <ShadwChsr> in areas that can be #ifdef ed for other oses
[06:56:50] <ShadwChsr> the renderer is in a library (dll)
[06:57:13] <ShadwChsr> and anyplace that makes an OS call is commented as such very clearly
[06:57:26] <ShadwChsr> so it should be easy to port and maintain that code stream
[06:57:30] <ShadwChsr> It just hasn't been done yet
[06:58:01] <ShadwChsr> The one tricky part might be DirectInput, but I imagine I can have the input code in another module as well, it's just new so it's not a fully thought out design yet
[06:58:08] <ShadwChsr> but the rest of it should be straight forward
[06:58:38] <ShadwChsr> 98% of people run windows, so thats what I'm focusing on. But a mac port would definately be nice :)
[06:58:56] <ShadwChsr> Linux, dont care so much because theres a billion and 1 other linux projects that arent ported to windows, so nya to them
[06:58:57] <ShadwChsr> ;)
[06:59:11] <ShadwChsr> but I imagine if a macport can be done linux is just as easy
[06:59:25] <ShadwChsr> :)
[07:02:18] <ShadwChsr> Let me know if you're interested <shrug>
[07:02:38] <ShadwChsr> Everyone is doing MMORPG servers, I really want to do a nice u8/uo'ish client
[07:02:54] <ShadwChsr> never been done (except for pentagram, which is in progress)

[08:08:33] * `daniel checks the documentation
[08:08:51] <`daniel> I know ogg works well enough, but I really miss the old midi tunes
[08:20:55] <ShadwChsr> :)
[08:57:04] * `daniel crys
[08:57:11] <`daniel> I can't get timidity to work :/

[10:47:07] <`daniel> blah
[10:47:15] <`daniel> grog
[10:47:19] <`daniel> of course
[10:47:29] <`daniel> I ain't no big sissy, just a little one
[10:47:53] <Servus> i have grog that'll melt iron, then i have grog that'll just melt wood
[10:48:16] <Servus> i have grog that'll melt guybrush threepwood right into a puddle
[10:51:06] <`daniel> hehe

[17:32:19] <wjp> ugh
[17:32:34] <wjp> who thought of mapping ctrl-w to 'close tab' in xchat2?
[17:33:02] * wjp has a tendency to use ctrl-w for 'delete word' :-)
[18:09:31] <DarkeZzz> Dunno. It seems fairly standard over KDE, thought it would have been the same with gnome. *grin*
[18:10:05] <DarkeZzz> (At least most gui editor programs I've seen seem to use it as the default anyway.)
[18:21:34] * DarkeZzz chooses sleep! Night! Zzzzz...
[18:29:55] <wjp> night :-)

[18:49:33] * wjp is sweeping through the forum with a big "Delete Post" broom as we speak

[22:12:34] <Fingolfin> rehi
[22:12:45] <wjp> hi
[22:30:15] <Fingolfin> Apple's bug report now has a feature that sends me an email whenever one of "my" bugs is updated w/ some comment
[22:30:37] <Fingolfin> it's funny to get all these mails telling me that apparently people are working on my bugs - but I have no way to see what they are actually doing :-)
[22:45:56] <wjp> :-)
[22:48:41] <wjp> did they do anything about the 'duplicate' issue? (if your bug is declared a duplicate of another one, and someone updates the other bug, do you get notified?)
[22:51:02] <Fingolfin> not yet, but
[22:51:12] <Fingolfin> they are improving:
[22:51:44] <Fingolfin> first off I can now send an email with the id of any bug, and they will send me its current status (that is some actual real person is reviewing this if it's OK and then I get an update)
[22:51:55] <Fingolfin> also I posted a feature request to get this more automated etc. etc.
[22:52:18] <Fingolfin> and they wrote a nice detailed (and, most importantly, non-automated but rather hand written) reply as to what they are doing to improve this
[22:52:32] <Fingolfin> so it seems they know they have to improve it, and are trying to improve
[22:52:42] <Fingolfin> let's see what it amounts to in the end :-)
[22:52:47] <wjp> sounds promising
[23:30:43] <wjp> I should be going
