[12:32:46] <wjp> so... about that release thing...
[12:33:34] <Dominus> yes?!!!
[12:34:05] <wjp> do you have sufficient overview over the current state of things to have a rough idea of what needs to be done?
[12:34:55] <wjp> (across the board; so code issues, doc issues, build issues, ...)
[12:35:22] <wjp> testing issues
[12:35:27] <Dominus> hmm, the biggest problem is still the issue of Exult not going to fullscreen in lower/original resolution
[12:35:40] <wjp> wasn't that an OS thing?
[12:36:03] <wjp> OSs supporting fullscreen 320x200 are getting rarer
[12:36:14] <Dominus> another issue I see is that with all the defaults we still have the screenshot save lcation unresolved. on *nix, including OS X we save to the HOME root
[12:36:46] <wjp> I think as long as things don't horribly break when trying to switch to fullscreen, it's no blocker if fullscreen mode doesn't work in low resolutions
[12:36:52] <wjp> (since scalers will be the default anyway)
[12:36:57] <Dominus> the fullscreen issue is with Windows and OS X and possible *nix, Marzo had some problems as well
[12:37:29] <Dominus> hmm, it's blocking with x2, too
[12:38:35] <wjp> screenshot saves: not too serious, but shouldn't be too hard to fix if we know what to change it to
[12:39:00] <Dominus> yeah, screenshots are a minor problem
[12:39:40] <Dominus> Exult builts fine on OS X and Windows. On OS X I am able to build for both intel and ppc platform
[12:40:11] <wjp> I didn't have any trouble on linux last time I tried
[12:40:52] <wjp> if you feel like it, you could name yourself release manager, and kick people into doing whatever needs doing for an rc :-)
[12:41:16] <Dominus> when I last spoke to Marzo, the idea was to release a beta or releays candidate, despite the fullscreen issue, so we get more responses by people
[12:41:21] <Dominus> he he
[12:41:48] <Dominus> I could try to :)
[12:42:13] <wjp> I haven't spent any time on exult for years, but I'd definitely help out if the path to a release is sufficiently clear
[12:43:33] <Dominus> I *think* we mostly need to change the built version number, I'd need to do some minor doc/Faq stuff to name it correctly, then tag the svn and have builts done
[12:45:45] <Dominus> I have no idea how the release on sourceforge works but I think no one of us has anymore :) I'm sure we can figure this out
[12:47:07] <Dominus> !seen marzo
[12:47:13] <Dominus> ?seen marzo
[12:47:13] <exultbot> marzo left IRC around Sat Jul 10 16:33:35 2010 (GMT) (Quit: Marzo vanishes suddenly.)
[12:53:09] <wjp> yeah, that part shouldn't be an issue
[12:55:15] <Dominus> I think it has been much improved to how it was in ancient times (I think one had to upload to ftp and then you had to choose your package from all the other uploaded packages from other projects... that sounds horrible, I must be mistaken :))
[12:55:20] <wjp> and we should do at least some preliminary playtesting on a few platforms to make sure there are no really stupid game-breaking bugs right at the start :-)
[12:55:36] <wjp> yeah, it's now just sftp-ing the file to the right directory and it's done
[12:56:20] <Dominus> yeah, we should at least make sure of that :)
[12:57:01] <Dominus> because I'm fearing it'S the end of life of Exult either way...
[13:05:54] <wjp> who knows, it might just get the ball rolling again
[13:07:37] <Dominus> I'd wish for it :)
[13:08:31] <Dominus> Version number: 1.4.5 RC1 (with 1.5 the final number) or just 1.5 RC1 (and still 1.5 the final number)?
[13:08:47] <Dominus> currently we have 1.4.05svn
[13:12:04] <Dominus> judging from our previous numbering it should be something with 1.4.x for the rc when we go for 1.5 as final
[13:29:33] <Colourless> 1.4.9 IMO
[13:30:10] <Colourless> indicates that its almost 1.5
[13:30:31] <Dominus> good point
[13:31:45] <Dominus> I'm going to wait for Marzo's input and warning Kirben of his builts being hijacked as RC and will then change the version number. I presume that's ok with most of yu
[13:34:27] <Colourless> IMO what needs to be done in svn is update all the various makefiles+etc to reflect the new version number, with the snapshots suspended until after the release, and once everyone has signed off, add a tag to svn and do the releases
[13:34:46] <Colourless> which seems a little complicated
[13:34:54] <wjp> sounds sensible, though
[13:35:03] <wjp> and hi Ryan
[13:35:30] <Colourless> hi... and bye... was just checking irc before bed and decided to give my 2 cents worth :-)
[13:35:44] <Dominus> yes, sounds sensible - thanks for your input
[13:35:51] <Dominus> sleep well
[13:38:49] <Dominus> ok, so my list has:
[13:39:09] <Dominus> update makefiles, doc, faq with new version number *1.4.9 RC1*
[13:39:17] <Dominus> suspend snapshots
[13:39:23] <Dominus> playtest a bit on the platforms
[13:39:30] <Dominus> tag svn
[13:39:39] <Dominus> release
[13:39:50] <Dominus> playtest should be on top of the list :)
[13:43:08] <wjp> that should cover it
[13:56:01] <Dominus> then I *should* playtest on OS X... :)
