[12:38:08] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to Fingolfin
[12:38:47] <Fingolfin> hi
[12:38:52] <Colourless> hi
[12:40:04] <Darke> Hi.
[12:40:38] <Darke> Fingolfin: An OS X thread on the forum if you haven't seen it already: http://exult.sourceforge.net/forum/read.php?f=1&i=10963&t=10963
[12:53:22] * Fingolfin barely ever looks at the forum so he hasn't seen =)
[12:59:43] <Fingolfin> Darke: what was the release tag for 1.0 again?
[13:10:14] --> SB-X has joined #exult
[13:10:19] <SB-X> hello
[13:10:25] <Colourless> hi
[13:10:56] <Darke> Fingolfin: Err... good question. *grin*
[13:10:57] <Darke> Hi.
[13:11:03] <Fingolfin> right now trying to figure out a already got it
[13:11:09] <Fingolfin> sorry, that was wrong ..
[13:11:15] <Fingolfin> Darke: already got it
[13:11:19] <Darke> No prob.
[13:11:23] <Fingolfin> (my return key must have hung <g>)
[13:11:39] * Darke snickers.
[13:16:48] <Fingolfin> arhm.. let's assume for a moment I forgot my forum password, how would I go about recovering it or getting a new one?
[13:17:04] <SB-X> hehe
[13:17:21] <Colourless> you could beg the forum admins :-)
[13:18:09] <Fingolfin> or I could threaten them to delete their web space .... <g>
[13:22:12] <Fingolfin> of course I'd never do such a thing :-)
[13:25:43] * SB-X decides to finally register at that forum. :P
[13:27:13] <Colourless> oh no, you'll cause the destruction of the entire universe
[13:27:49] * SB-X thinks about a thread he can respond to to test...
[13:30:00] * Darke threatens to write a .vim highlighting file for u8's disassembled usecode.
[13:30:23] * SB-X dares Darke.
[13:33:10] * Darke already has one that's 70%ish completed. He's just having some ordering problems with highlighting things. *grin*
[13:33:53] <SB-X> what happened to kdevelop?
[13:33:58] <SB-X> i thought you used that for code
[13:35:01] <Darke> Oh I do. I just use vim to view the output source files since it's the right tool for the job. *grin*
[13:36:16] * Darke is actually cleaning up quite a bit of the output syntax too whilst he's at it. There's missing 'h's and stuff everywhere. *grin*
[13:37:41] <Darke> You can really tell this output was cobbled together by a few people too. *grin*
[13:38:54] <SB-X> ... when can we see?
[13:39:59] <Colourless> never, the output from darke's program, and it's source are classified. so even if you get the .vim, you will never get code to view :-)
[13:41:04] <SB-X> i'm good for it
[13:41:17] <SB-X> I... I... uh, offered suggestions for filename extensions. :-)
[13:41:44] * Darke snickers. Apparently there's a 'highlighting' mode that will output to html. Could be interesting. *grin*
[13:43:05] <Colourless> i would imagine that all it does is create a properly formatted html document that is highlighted
[13:44:31] * Darke nods. That's what he figures. Kinda pointless for our purposes since we can't put the code online, copyright problems, etc. *grin*
[13:53:52] * SB-X cries.
[13:54:23] <SB-X> Can I have a sample snippet of U8 code?
[13:54:36] <SB-X> Fair Use provisions and all...
[13:54:44] <Colourless> spawn
[13:54:48] <Colourless> there, done :=)
[13:54:51] <Colourless> or not
[13:55:19] <SB-X> ...
[13:55:19] <SB-X> is that it?
[13:55:37] <Colourless> i don't know, ask Darke, i've not seen the output from his program
[13:56:20] <SB-X> oh :P
[13:57:18] <Darke> This is just colouring disasm output, you can see that by running ./disasm. *grin*
[13:57:52] <Colourless> hmm, i see, then i 'did' give you a snippet of the code
[13:59:18] <Colourless> being asm and all it's not exactly nice to look at, regardless of any colouring that Darke may add
[14:00:51] <SB-X> player.obj = Spawn_Silencer()
[14:00:51] <SB-X> player.attack(PentagramDevs)
[14:01:05] <SB-X> will it ever look like that?
[14:01:09] <-- Darke has left IRC (capek.freenode.net irc.freenode.net)
[14:01:12] <Colourless> no :-)
[14:01:39] --> Darke has joined #exult
[14:01:56] <SB-X> Darke.refresh()
[14:03:35] <Darke> DARKE::enterFastArea();
[14:04:01] <Darke> Nooooo! I haven't been looking at usecode too much! Not. At. All!
[14:04:10] <Colourless> :-)
[14:05:32] <Colourless> DARKE::look();
[14:08:34] <SB-X> heh
[14:08:47] <SB-X> will anyone want to make an ultima remake in pentagram?
[14:08:50] * Darke gags Colourless before he can mention the ::use() and ::equip() functions. The former sounds kinky and the latter painful. *grin*
[14:09:05] <Colourless> DARKE::combine();
[14:09:17] <Darke> Oi! Stop that!
[14:09:22] <Darke> SB-X: Who knows. *grin*
[14:09:32] <SB-X> eww
[14:09:34] <Colourless> DARKE::hatch();
[14:10:18] <Darke> COLOURLESS::leaveFastArea();
[14:10:29] <SB-X> whats that supposed to do?
[14:10:55] * Darke lets Colourless explain. *grin*
[14:11:00] --- Colourless is now known as Cless|InActive
[14:11:24] <SB-X> what is a fast area anyway?
[14:12:05] <Cless|InActive> COLOURLESS::enterFastArea();
[14:12:10] --- Cless|InActive is now known as Colourless
[14:12:19] <Colourless> the fast area is the area on screen
[14:12:57] <SB-X> i see
[14:13:03] <Darke> It's so you can start and stop (for example) animations playing when someone isn't going to see them.
[14:13:32] <SB-X> does the engine call that?
[14:13:44] <SB-X> and then the object has a chance to respond
[14:14:36] <SB-X> like "you have left the screen", "you are now on the screen"
[14:14:39] * Darke nods. Whenever an item appears on the screen the engine calles Item::enterFastArea() on it, then when it leaves the screen, it calls Item::leaveFastArea();
[14:15:28] <SB-X> cool :)
[14:15:41] <SB-X> i already want a Pentagram Studio
[14:16:22] <Colourless> chances are there will never be anything quite like a Pentagram Studio
[14:17:27] <SB-X> well, built in editor, or several tools to do the same thing would be good too
[14:38:24] * Darke ponders the absense of bows/crossbows in U8.
[14:39:46] * SB-X ponders the all-around strangeness of Pagan.
[14:42:33] --> Curryous has joined #exult
[14:46:26] <SB-X> hi Curryous
[14:47:02] <SB-X> artaxerxes?
[14:47:29] <Curryous> heya sb-x
[14:47:35] <Darke> Hi.
[14:48:11] <Darke> Curious. There is only one instance of what looks like a negative jne instruction in the entire u8 usecode. None in the crusader games.
[14:48:45] <SB-X> no, his name is Curryous
[14:49:12] <SB-X> heh... sorry :p
[14:49:29] <SB-X> So there are lots of je then?
[14:49:34] * Darke thwaps SB-X. Just 'cause. *grin*
[14:49:57] <Darke> Actually, I think jne's parameter is unsigned.
[14:50:20] <SB-X> ooh
[14:50:25] <SB-X> i didnt see the negative part
[14:50:32] <SB-X> i thought you meant there are no jne's
[14:50:37] <Curryous> Actually my name seems to change on a regular basis
[14:50:49] * Darke curry's his ous.
[14:51:54] * SB-X throws a carrot at Darke's head and goes afk for a bit.
[14:52:51] * Darke grabs it out of the air and munches on it, all without looking up from his code.
[14:55:46] * Curryous lunges for the ous, trips and falls and losses several more letters
[14:56:24] <Darke> And... yeah, it's right. jne's parameter is a uint16, whereas jmp's parameter is a sint16. *boggle* Looks like a bit of a hack to me, to stop them from having to move up to 32bit offsets.
[15:13:54] * SB-X returns to keyboard.
[15:14:27] <SB-X> Darke: what does a negative jump parameter do? go to a previous offset?
[15:14:45] <SB-X> and would 0 not do anything? :)
[15:19:35] <Darke> Yes, a negative jump offset would go to a previous offset, if it were possible. *grin*
[15:20:15] <Darke> jne 0 is almost a non-op. *grin* It pops a word off the stack, then goes to the next opcode no matter what.
[15:20:56] <Darke> jmp 0 is, however a 3 byte non-op. *grin*
[15:25:15] <-- Curryous has left #exult ()
[15:31:32] * Darke yawns and thinks it's time to wander off to do some of that 'sleeping' thing he's been hearing about. Night all!
[15:31:49] --- Darke is now known as Darke|zzZ
[17:01:07] <-- Kirben has left IRC (Read error: 104 (Connection reset by peer))
[18:24:56] <-- Colourless has left IRC ("casts invisibility")

[21:43:11] --> cnj has joined #exult
[21:43:12] <-- SB-X has left IRC (Read error: 104 (Connection reset by peer))
[21:56:12] --> SB-X has joined #exult
[23:50:23] --> Kirben has joined #exult
[23:50:23] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to Kirben
[23:53:14] <-- Fingolfin has left IRC ("Oops. This machine just fell asleep")
