[13:08:54] * WishStone pokes her con
[13:10:52] <-- Fingolfin has left IRC ("42")
[13:10:54] <wjp> your what?
[13:11:55] <Darke> No doubt her connection terminated before it managed to send the rest of her pose. *grin*
[13:12:30] <WishStone> :P
[13:12:38] <WishStone> Well, no, but no topic loaded, no nothing
[13:12:46] <Colourless> 2hi
[13:12:50] <WishStone> Huhu
[13:13:18] <Colourless> there is no topic!
[13:13:33] * Darke attempts to load the topic... does it take caseless or cased ammo, or dilithium crystals?
[13:13:40] * WishStone nods, blank eyes
[13:13:43] <WishStone> There is no topic..
[13:13:49] <Colourless> Caseless hollowpoint i think
[13:14:51] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to Darke
[13:14:56] --- Darke has changed the topic to: There *is* no topic! *There* is no topic! There is *no* topic! There is no *topic*!
[13:15:07] * Darke has a spoon though!
[13:15:18] <Colourless> quick, send it to #Pentagram
[13:15:34] <Darke> Done!
[13:16:00] * Darke is content with having returned reality to The Way It Should Be(tm).
[13:16:24] <Colourless> in your eyes that is
[13:17:22] <Darke> Of course! Chaos and confusion are the natural order of things. *noddle*
[13:18:44] * WishStone drops Darke in a vat of noodle salad with extra majonaise
[13:18:56] <Colourless> chaos is the natural order?
[13:20:07] <Darke> Ewwwww! Mayonaise is the spawn of order! Get it off! Get it off!
[13:20:36] <Colourless> you are so very very strange
[13:20:39] <Darke> Colourless: The weather seems to use lots of it, so perhaps.
[13:21:10] * Darke 's chaos is more ordered chaos, really. There is a pattern to it, even if it isn't completely obvious... or even completely non-obvious. *grin*
[13:23:25] * WishStone looks worried and starts herding Darke to make sure they are safe...
[13:26:15] * Darke thinks this sureallity might have something to do with him having listened to both "Mad World" and "Insanity" recently, Insanity right at this moment actually. *grin*
[13:26:54] * Colourless disagrees. He believes that this is just the natural state of the bunny
[13:28:00] <Darke> Hrm... I like that! "Insanity is just the natural state of the bunny." *grin*
[13:34:27] <Colourless> Darke->setDefaultState(AI_STATE_INSANE);
[13:40:20] * Darke would prefer AI_STATE_RANDOM_INSANITY, because... well... just because!
[13:42:40] <WishStone> http://boards.stratics.com/php-bin/uo/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=uouhall&Number=4810638&page=&view=&sb=&o=&fpart=all&vc=1&what2=&selv=&vwhich=
[13:44:03] <Colourless> oh I'm sorry Darke if the level of insanity that i've assigned you with isn't at the level that you would prefer
[13:47:49] <Darke> Precicely! And since my level of insanity varies... well... all the time, this is why I need a random insanity quotent. *noddle*
[13:48:23] * Darke snerks at that forum thread.
[13:50:05] <Colourless> WishStone: EA is stupid
[13:50:24] <Colourless> (not really intended to WishStone, but is in reply to the thread)
[13:53:16] <Colourless> i would be really interested in stasticial evidence that actually backs up that such things do make a positive influence to sales
[13:54:00] <WishStone> Agreed...
[13:54:04] <WishStone> IF there IS some..
[13:54:11] <WishStone> I'll have to become lesbian at once, sorry :P
[13:54:23] <WishStone> If males as THAT dim... "oooh! Boobs! *grabs and buys*"
[13:54:24] <Colourless> Hot! :-)
[13:56:13] <Darke> IIRC, there is some statistical correlation, unfortunately.
[13:57:08] <Colourless> that would explain Tomb Raider
[13:58:15] * WishStone eyes her playlist, then shrugs
[13:58:16] <WishStone> okay
[13:58:20] <Darke> I can't find the actual analysis/study online unfortunately. But there's a big correlation between b00bies and their target audience, aka, those who purchase the most computer games. The males between 15-30.
[13:58:33] <Colourless> additional statistical evidence of course shows that male gamers on general do not like to play as female characters.
[13:58:36] <Darke> Of course said study is logically flawed due to the self selection inherent.
[13:59:50] <Darke> Scarily no. It's apparently around 50/50 (males playing males, and males playing females) at least for online games. That particular reason is obvious.
[14:00:20] <Colourless> I can't really imagine though that a gamer is going to go buy a game just because it's got big b00bies on the box. Gamers in general don't buy games like that
[14:00:39] <Colourless> s/like that/that way/
[14:00:42] <Darke> (Which again suffers from statistical abnormality... like some guys not actually admitting to the fact they play females, but still all statistics suffer from such stuff.)
[14:01:15] <Colourless> Darke: i believe they were grabbing the evidence from numbers male and female chars in MMORGPS
[14:01:41] <Darke> Colourless: You're not targeting gamers, remember. You're targeting people who walk into a games store, look over the games, find one that looks interesting and purchases it. They buy one game every two-three months, and don't really do much in the way of research.
[14:02:18] * Colourless admits he mostly plays female characters :-)
[14:02:29] * Colourless doesn't play MMORPGs though
[14:02:31] * WishStone 's main is an old guy
[14:03:01] <Darke> Colourless: Curiousness. The one I was looking at was generated from stats to a MMORG too, though I can't remember which one. It was posted on mud-dev quite a while ago, IIRC.
[14:03:54] <Colourless> could depend greatly on the game being studied
[14:04:17] <WishStone> ....
[14:04:20] * Darke 's characters are about even covering the genders, with a male bias to playing. He always plays females in games if given the option, if only to simply balance out the fact that most guys only allow male characters.
[14:04:25] <WishStone> I can tell you something about UO *is in it right now*
[14:04:38] <Darke> s/guys/games/
[14:04:51] <WishStone> It's far from realety... because right now I'm running though my house thinking: Now where did I misplace that bag with the great granite tables and the loom??!
[14:05:14] * Darke cackles!
[14:05:27] <Colourless> hehe\
[14:08:09] * Colourless is out of touch with the general population. He would make a terrible marketer
[14:09:15] <WishStone> Okay, and if my nighbours aren't awake NOW, I don't know what :P
[14:09:46] * WishStone pushed the "shuffle" on her playlist... now Petula Clarks' Downtown is smack beside Slipknots' Wait and Bleed
[14:10:29] <Darke> The main reason guys play females in games though, is simply because the female models are (for obvious reasons) more appealing to look at for the long time you'll be looking at them. Especially if you're looking at their ass for 99.9% of the game, like you would in a Tomb Raider clone.
[14:13:03] --> Andersen has joined #exult
[14:13:24] * Colourless plays female characters because he has issues with male voice actors
[14:14:21] <WishStone> ?!
[14:15:19] * Colourless 's problem is that in general he dislikes the male voice characters that detracts from the 'role playing'
[14:15:55] * Darke makes agreeing noises.
[14:16:43] * Colourless then plays a female character, something completely not him
[14:17:29] <Colourless> could also just be some other psychological issue though :-)
[14:17:35] * Darke tends to play females simply because he can. Evens up the male-bias character models in networked fps. Especially useful if you *completely* pummel the competition, they don't even have to look at the name to know they've been killed by the *same* player 5 times in the last minute. *grin*
[14:18:30] * Darke pulls up a dragon-sized psychiatric couch. "Now... Vhat coult be Ze problem here..."
[14:19:23] <Colourless> I'm sure ol' Dr Freud would have many suggestions :-)
[14:20:13] <WishStone> ;]
[14:21:56] * Darke can't really make any snarky comments as to that, since he can think of half a dozen male friends on mucks and such who's primary characters are female, and who's roleplaying is... less then innocent. Any psychological quirks Colourless might have are completely dwarfed by theirs. *grin*
[14:22:18] * Darke is, of course, *completely* innocent!
[14:23:28] * Colourless considers that you really should make broad statements about someone you don't really know all that much about. You never know what exactly goes on in the mind of this dragon.
[14:23:54] * Colourless thinks he should probably stop going down that path
[14:24:34] * Darke muhahahahas! He thinks Colourless sorely misunderestimates the devious of this (innocent!) bunny. *grin*
[14:25:40] * Colourless thinks the bunny sounds like some halfwit american president
[14:26:02] <Colourless> misunderestimates... NOT A WORD !
[14:26:44] <Darke> Yup. *grin* That's what happens when I should have been in bed an hour ago. *grin*
[14:27:05] <WishStone> *chuckles*
[14:27:55] <Darke> (Flatmate's watching a movie downstairs, which incidentally finishes soon, so I couldn't be bothered harassing him to turn it down... besides, it's 'Hackers' he deserves what he gets. *grin*)
[14:28:33] <Colourless> hehe
[14:29:15] <Darke> Granted though, it is quite a bit more realistic then the movie he was watching before that, "Swordfish" I believe it was called.
[14:29:21] <Colourless> :-)
[14:29:41] <Darke> For some reason two 'hacker' (*cough* *gag* *choke*) movies were on one after another, on two different channels tonight.
[14:31:26] <Colourless> well, here seven was showing Tomb Raider and Hackers
[14:31:28] <Darke> At least 'Hackers' actually used vaguely believable concepts. One thing that amused/stunned me was they went through a list of books early on in the piece, I'm pretty sure all of which were real, and they used the correct JARGON name with each one. The Dragon Book, was even mentioned as being compiler related... have no real idea what that's got to do with hacking, but still...
[14:32:02] <Darke> Yup. It was 10 or something that was showing Swordfish around the same time as Tomb Raiders. I noticed it was on and made the comment that at least he wasn't watching TR. *grin*
[14:32:56] <Colourless> :-)
[14:33:27] * Colourless at that time would have been watching Bablyon 5 dvd's
[14:34:08] <wjp> bbl (although I doubt you noticed I was here ;-) )
[14:34:27] <WishStone> :P
[14:35:31] <Darke> Colourless: Weirdo! Wouldn't you have *wanted* to see the... err... *quality* hacking-show Swordfish is?!? *Feel* the experience as he codes a rotating cube and... err... adds cubes to it! And *see* the flashing/strobing colours!
[14:36:21] <Colourless> whoa... so you mean I'm a hacker... i mean i can code rotating cubes!
[14:36:38] <WishStone> haXX0R!
[14:37:43] <Colourless> i looked at the TV guide and Tomb Raider got more stars than Swordfish....
[14:38:26] <Colourless> but i think the reason for that must be due to a misprint for Tomb Raider... they get it 3 stars!
[14:38:31] <Colourless> s/get/gave/
[14:39:45] <Darke> That can't be right!
[14:40:57] <Darke> If it is, there obviously must be something to this b00bies==buy! thing that we were talking about earlier...
[14:41:24] <Colourless> hey that's what they were advertising as a reason to watch Swordfish :-)(
[14:46:44] * Darke snickers.
[14:49:56] * Darke slips off to sleep. (Sorry, Zzzz's calling him, he needs to get up in under 6 hours to go to work. *grin*) Night!
[14:51:17] <Colourless> night
[14:55:03] <WishStone> nighters
[15:20:44] * wjp drops dead on the floor of the channel
