[01:28:50] <Matt_O> kekeke

[11:16:35] <Jammet> Mew.
[11:17:09] * Jammet cubpurry cheerfully, just having slept, and leaps about servus, pawpawpawpaws in circles and mews melodically.
[11:17:26] <Jammet> =). I'm out for breakfast, losta gazelle to chase.
[12:50:26] <-- Kirben has left IRC ("System Meltdown")

[19:25:32] <wjp> hi
[19:25:43] <Dominus> hey ho
[19:25:53] <wjp> did you play Geneforge?
[19:25:57] <Dominus> yes
[19:26:12] <wjp> Geneforge 2 for windows is out, in that case :-)
[19:26:18] <Dominus> I even had a bug submitted to spiderweb about it once
[19:28:52] <Dominus> hm, seems I have to dl the shareware then...
[19:29:44] <Dominus> thanks for the info
[19:30:01] <wjp> I ordered it without trying the demo :-)
[19:30:06] <Dominus> he
[19:30:50] <wjp> maybe I'll even have time to finish my master's thesis before the CD arrives ;-)
[19:31:02] <Dominus> he maybe...
[19:31:18] <Dominus> so this is again only full version via CD ordering?
[19:31:36] <Dominus> wasn't geneforge a shareware one?
[19:32:05] <Dominus> I mean you could unlock it with a key? Not sure though
[19:34:19] <wjp> yeah, there's a demo
[19:34:23] <wjp> and you can unlock it
[19:34:39] <wjp> but I didn't download a demo, so I didn't 'order' a key to unlock it
[19:34:51] <Dominus> ah, ok
[20:26:42] --> Fingolfin has joined #exult
[20:26:42] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to Fingolfin
[20:27:20] <Fingolfin> lo
[20:27:31] <wjp> hi
[20:27:48] <Fingolfin> always trying to opposed whatever I say, eh, wjp? :-)
[20:27:53] <Fingolfin> s/opposed/oppose/
[20:28:04] <wjp> of course ;-)
[20:31:10] --> astrospy has joined #exult
[20:31:27] <astrospy> 'ello 'ello
[20:31:47] <wjp> 'i 'i?
[20:31:55] <astrospy> heh heh
[20:32:14] <astrospy> Well.. I do believe we have contact.
[20:32:42] <astrospy> just a sec BRB
[20:32:44] <-- astrospy has left #exult ()
[20:33:30] --> Chuckles has joined #exult
[20:33:37] <Chuckles> Ok I'm back
[20:34:34] <Chuckles> Exult what a concept. I'm quite in awe. The point scale is the correct format for when i played it on my old 386 when i was 9 or so. Man and i'm only 20.
[20:35:08] <Chuckles> and it was 320x240 on my old screen at least it looked full screen to me.
[20:35:29] <wjp> 320x200, actually, but close enough :-)
[20:35:53] <Chuckles> i suppose but i'm just saying by looking at the old screen it was fullscreened.
[20:35:55] <Chuckles> so to speak
[20:36:12] <Chuckles> so putting it at 320x240 it looks like it was on my old computer with point scale
[20:37:37] <Chuckles> although you know what. I don't like GM or Roland i was more of fan of SB. Which is what U7xp.com program emulates with the help of VDMsound but it crashes before i go into the world. oh btw the mouse support is missing when you start a new game character?
[20:37:52] <Chuckles> In Exult
[20:38:08] <wjp> hm, yes, it is
[20:38:12] <Chuckles> i'm using the newest snapshot i had to build it myself
[20:38:12] <wjp> not sure why
[20:38:26] <Chuckles> since it's not built on the mainpage
[20:38:32] <Chuckles> quite annoying but i figured it out
[20:38:35] <wjp> well, there's a reason for that :-)
[20:38:48] <Chuckles> oh. what's the reason?
[20:38:49] <wjp> as you may have noticed the latest snapshot is labelled beta3
[20:38:53] <Chuckles> i did notice
[20:38:56] <Chuckles> quite well
[20:39:02] <Chuckles> i went through some of the source
[20:39:05] <wjp> however we didn't officially release beta3 yet
[20:39:08] <Chuckles> ah
[20:39:14] <Chuckles> testing the game once again?
[20:39:20] <wjp> mainly because we found a bit of a showstopper bug in SI
[20:39:26] <Chuckles> oh fun
[20:39:35] <Chuckles> dang i wish i could find my ultima collection cd
[20:39:37] <wjp> and none of us have the time to properly investigate and fix it at the moment
[20:39:50] <Chuckles> all i got is the u7 BG+addon
[20:39:53] <Chuckles> ah
[20:39:54] <Chuckles> ok
[20:39:56] <Chuckles> just curious
[20:40:13] <Chuckles> at least my conversations in BG didn't runnon in the previous snapshot in BG
[20:40:21] <wjp> what did you mean by the vdmsound comment on the forum?
[20:40:42] <Chuckles> ah VDMsound it emulates Soundblaster, Roland, and ADlib through Dos
[20:40:52] <Chuckles> i'll show you the WEBpage just a sec
[20:40:57] <wjp> I know what it is
[20:41:01] <Chuckles> ah
[20:41:03] <Chuckles> ok
[20:41:26] <wjp> but I'm a little confused on what you want exactly
[20:41:58] <Chuckles> oh well i'm just curious if there is a way of implementing that through exult. I'm somewhat computer oriented in usage but i'm not well in depth with implementation.
[20:42:53] <Chuckles> i suppose sorta merging the two together so to speak?
[20:43:12] <Chuckles> i dunno. i'm just curious about the possibilities
[20:44:10] <Chuckles> just something to think about. i'm not asking for it right now. but i am enjoying your guys' work. i do appreciate it. Been waiting a long time for someting feasible.
[20:44:22] <Chuckles> *something
[20:44:43] <wjp> hm, I'm not sure where something like vdmsound would be useful in Exult, but then again, I'm not that familiar with all the audio stuff
[20:45:23] <Chuckles> neither am i. i think it's because i miss the SoundBlaster Emulation i enjoyed so much on the original Setup
[20:46:20] <Chuckles> because you have all this Roland and GM emulation and this crazy FM Synth emulation
[20:46:28] <Chuckles> but what about adlib/soundblaster.
[20:46:39] <Chuckles> quite confused about how that could be left out.
[20:47:39] <Chuckles> that's about it.
[20:47:42] <wjp> fm synth is pretty much adlib, IIRC
[20:47:56] <Chuckles> IIRC?
[20:48:01] <wjp> if I remember correctly
[20:48:16] <Fingolfin> I thought it was "If I recall correctly" .. :-)
[20:48:37] <wjp> Fingolfin: nitpicky, are we? :-)
[20:48:59] <Fingolfin> or was it "If i recollect correctly" ? <g>
[20:49:57] * wjp hmms
[20:50:27] * wjp asks his PRNG
[20:51:03] <Chuckles> mm kinda.. but no not really. if i use u7xp.com using VDMsound with it set correctly it sounds much different.
[20:51:19] <Chuckles> i know i'm doing it right now :-)
[20:51:36] <wjp> Fingolfin: well, it seems my PRNG agrees with your first guess
[20:51:53] <Fingolfin> wjp: :-)
[20:51:55] <Fingolfin> see!!!!
[20:52:24] * wjp humbly bows to Fingolfin's superior memory
[20:52:41] <wjp> anyway, I should get back to preparing for my talk tomorrow :-)
[20:53:03] <wjp> have to speak on Galois theory of radical field extensions for 50 minutes
[20:53:06] <Chuckles> just out of curiousity the intro seems a little out of sync especially with the moonstone flickering at incredible speeds and you don't see your character knock on the side of the computer
[20:53:08] <Chuckles> oh fun
[20:53:18] <wjp> yeah... sync isn't great
[20:53:29] <wjp> the problem is finding someone who wants to fix it :-)
[20:53:32] <Chuckles> lol
[20:53:44] <wjp> I had enough 'fun' getting the intro where it is now
[20:53:47] <wjp> :-)
[20:53:52] <Chuckles> *nods*
[20:54:15] <Chuckles> lol i still remember reading about how they used a glitch in the intel core to do this intro
[20:54:31] <wjp> oh?
[20:54:34] <Chuckles> mhm
[20:54:54] <Chuckles> that's what i was called IIRC :-)
[20:54:58] <Chuckles> *it
[20:55:26] <Chuckles> i think i can still find out where it was said
[20:55:29] <wjp> I know the voodoo memory manager used in U7 is based on a bug/feature of the 80386
[20:55:45] <wjp> but I didn't hear anything about any 'hacks' in the intro
[20:56:45] <Chuckles> not sure
[20:56:56] <Chuckles> i may worong
[20:56:57] <Chuckles> *wrong
[20:57:48] <Chuckles> *be
[20:57:52] <wjp> :-)
[20:59:29] <Chuckles> well wish i knew more about this stuff to actually be of help then to just bring a lot of suggestions and no ideas.
[21:02:48] <Chuckles> ow that FM Synth hurts your ears
[21:02:56] <Chuckles> it's way to tinny
[21:03:24] <Chuckles> especially the Kilrathi Theme from Wing Commander
[21:03:37] <Chuckles> oh i miss that series
[21:03:42] <Chuckles> man Origin was the bomb
[21:03:53] <Chuckles> even with Crusader
[21:04:00] <Chuckles> No Remorse and No Regret
[21:07:43] <Chuckles> hum well i'll be around guys.
[21:07:46] <Chuckles> l8r
[21:07:49] <-- Chuckles has left IRC ()
[21:59:40] <Dominus> I posted a reply to this. I was distracted before with my gf needing help with computer stuff.
