[02:36:05] <-- Colourless has left IRC ("casts improved invisibility")
[03:01:05] --- sbx|here is now known as sbx
[03:06:27] <Baastuul> ess bee ecks
[03:10:24] <sbx> heya
[03:10:37] <sbx> "here" was supposed to be "afk"
[03:10:37] <sbx> but now I'm really here
[03:11:13] <Baastuul> Hayle!
[03:11:29] <Baastuul> So, yeah, I uninstalled Rome: Total War.
[03:17:04] <sbx> ?
[03:17:14] <sbx> Short on disk space?
[03:17:24] <sbx> Or was it just time to put it out to pasture.
[03:18:10] <sbx> Just saying I never delete old applications unless room is needed for new ones.
[03:18:27] <Baastuul> A little bit of the former, but more the latter.
[03:18:46] <Baastuul> I've been playing it almost every day since January 1st.
[03:24:23] <sbx> Afraid you'll keep playing it if you don't uninstall it?
[03:27:20] <sbx> :)
[03:29:00] <Baastuul> Well, not really... It got to the point where it was just annoying me to have it installed still.
[03:29:07] <Baastuul> Just because I was getting so sick of playing it.
[03:29:23] <Baastuul> My empire was too large!
[03:34:32] <sbx> Yeah how sickening.
[03:34:42] <sbx> They should force you to manage it then.
[03:35:02] <Baastuul> Well, I was managing it.
[03:35:10] <Baastuul> I just got sick of managing it. :)
[03:35:18] <Baastuul> It got to the point where there was no point.
[03:35:32] <sbx> Why do they do something so stupid like forcing you to manage it? That makes players want to uninstall the game.
[03:36:20] <Baastuul> I didn't mind managing it so much, in fact I enjoyed it for a while, but it gets very, very tedious towards the end of the campaign when you, like, control the entire world.
[03:36:43] <Baastuul> Having to sift through 103 provinces, organize your armies, keep your governors in check, check the taxes, etc.
[03:36:43] <Baastuul> Gets a little monotonous.
[03:37:42] <sbx> Did you watch that Robot Chicken episode yet?
[03:37:58] <Baastuul> No, I didn't feel like downloading it.
[03:38:13] <sbx> Good...
[03:38:30] <sbx> I didn't watch it until this week. That one wasn't as good as the others.
[05:22:00] <-- Baastuul has left IRC ("Reconnecting.")

[11:10:43] <Tawn> Greetings all
[11:10:55] <Fl00der> hello
[11:43:25] <sbx> hi
[11:43:56] <Tawn> How ya doin Sb?
[11:50:21] <-- pwr has left IRC ("Client exiting")
[11:52:07] <sbx> fine
[11:52:09] <sbx> mostly afk
[12:02:39] <Tawn> Okies
[12:02:44] <smatthews> Hello.
[12:06:13] <Tawn> Hey Sam
[12:06:19] <Tawn> How did the website go?
[12:08:58] <Tawn> Oh about your changing IP, have you ever heard of DNS2Go?
[12:11:50] <smatthews> Well it rarely changes.
[12:12:03] <smatthews> I use DynDNS though.
[12:13:12] <Tawn> Ahh ok :)
[12:37:41] <Tawn> Could anyone here take a look at some Usecode for me?
[12:37:52] <Tawn> It's pretty simple but won't compile
[12:39:24] <sbx> yeah
[12:39:37] <Tawn> Ok, I'll just post it
[12:40:49] <Tawn> http://www.wiredentertainment.net/usecode.uc
[12:41:53] <Tawn> It's saying line 36: parse error
[12:42:34] <Tawn> Oops, just something to fix first
[12:42:48] <wjp> change the = to ==
[12:43:05] <Tawn> Ack damn :)
[12:44:08] <sbx> indeed
[12:44:50] * smatthews raises his hand in fury at your == mistake
[12:45:31] <Tawn> But I though == is for checking and = for setting?
[12:46:04] <Tawn> I'm not an experienced programmer :)
[12:46:11] <sbx> maybe it meant line 37
[12:46:23] <wjp> if(x = cloc[2])
[12:46:27] <wjp> if(y = cloc[2])
[12:46:36] <Tawn> Oh yeah
[12:46:43] <Tawn> Doh! I totally missed that
[12:47:27] <Tawn> How do I call a function?
[12:47:58] <Tawn> It's ok, I have it :)
[12:52:15] --- sbx is now known as sbx|afk
[12:52:56] <smatthews>
[12:53:07] <smatthews> Different design.
[12:53:20] <smatthews> This one even works in IE!
[12:53:24] <Tawn> Hehe
[12:54:13] <Tawn> Looking good
[12:54:21] <smatthews> Thanks. Might just scrap the entire thing though :P
[12:55:00] <Tawn> Well if you keep thel logo, darken it (it strains my eyes it's so faded ;-)
[12:57:04] <smatthews> There.
[12:57:20] <Tawn> Yeah, definately better :)
[13:05:10] <Tawn> How do I call a function?
[13:05:19] <Tawn> I though I had it but I was wrong :)
[13:06:18] <smatthews> It's looking interesting now!
[13:07:31] <Tawn> Yep, much better :)
[13:32:11] <Tawn> I have the Sourceforge Island patch here, but it's causing Exult to crash for me?
[13:32:22] <Tawn> Would someone else test it before I upload it to the site?
[13:39:28] <wjp> sure
[13:42:15] <wjp> what exactly did you put in your patch directory?
[13:46:53] <Tawn> I'll send you the link
[13:47:06] <Tawn> I got it from the source and compiled the usecode file
[13:47:21] <Tawn> http://www.wiredentertainment.net/exult/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=5&func=fileinfo&filecatid=6&parent=category
[13:50:23] <Tawn> Curiousis put up a usecode file (with nothing else)
[13:50:35] <Tawn> It's ap patch for one of the regular NPCs
[13:50:59] <Tawn> It's not called usecode though so it wouldn't be run, would it?
[13:51:21] <Tawn> I'd have to rename it to "usecode" and put it in a patch directory?
[13:51:28] <wjp> yes
[13:51:34] <Tawn> Ok, got it
[13:51:52] <Tawn> Or else #incude it in my own usecode?
[13:52:19] <Tawn> (Just want to write Installation Instructions
[13:53:19] <wjp> hm, islefaq patch in current exult CVS segfaults exult for me too
[13:53:27] --> trand has joined #exult
[13:53:38] <Tawn> Yeah it's in content
[13:53:50] <Tawn> Drcode gave me permission to upload it to the guides
[13:56:37] <wjp> hm, I wonder if Dominus forgot to commit a file when he last updated the islefaq patch
[13:57:24] <Tawn> Doesn't work for you either?
[13:57:42] <wjp> <@wjp> hm, islefaq patch in current exult CVS segfaults exult for me too
[13:58:36] <Tawn> I don't understand what you mean :)
[13:58:55] <smatthews>
[13:59:25] <Tawn> Very nice Sam
[13:59:33] <smatthews> Thanks :P
[13:59:34] <Lord_Nightmare> too much latin
[13:59:58] <smatthews> Oh well I cater to Latinos with this site.
[14:03:46] <wjp> a segfault ('segmentation fault') is what you'd call an access violation in windows
[14:04:23] <Tawn> Ahhh ok :)
[14:06:09] <wjp> my current guess is that there's a file missing
[14:11:09] <Tawn> Ok, thanks :)
[14:11:18] <Tawn> I'll just use the older one for now
[14:11:51] <Tawn> I have to go for a bit
[14:11:53] <Tawn> Take care all
[14:11:58] <-- Tawn has left IRC ()
[14:15:03] --> Tawn has joined #exult
[14:35:44] <-- Fl00der has left IRC ()
[14:39:34] <wjp> Tawn: Dominus replied about the islefaq patch
[14:39:48] <wjp> it needs two additional files which you have to build using ipack from the files in the content/data directory
[14:40:03] <Tawn> Ahhh ok thanks :)
[14:40:27] <wjp> in content/data, run "ipack -c shapes" and "ipack -c faces" and add the resulting faces.vga and shapes.vga files to the patch directory
[14:42:07] <Tawn> That's excellent, thanks for the help :)
[14:45:05] <Tawn> Perfect, rungs great
[14:45:10] <Tawn> *runs
[14:48:36] <Tawn> Wjp, what's the "strange magical device" your working on? ;)
[14:49:01] <wjp> hm, probably pentargam
[14:49:04] <wjp> pentagram, even
[14:49:11] <Tawn> Ahh :)
[14:49:40] <wjp> unless it would be the gobliiins 1 engine in scummvm which has been distracting me for the last couple of weeks :-)
[14:50:58] <Tawn> Haha, okie :)

[18:43:08] --> Baastuul has joined #exult
[18:43:29] <Tawn> Hey Baastuul :)
[18:44:52] <Baastuul> Harro!
[18:45:02] * Tawn looks for Harro
[18:45:09] <Tawn> I don't think he's here :)
[18:46:50] <Baastuul> haha
[18:46:52] <Tawn> I'm having to do actual work, it's aweful :(
[18:46:59] <Baastuul> No, "harro" is an Engrish way of saying "hello." :)
[18:47:06] <Baastuul> What is the nature of this actual work!
[18:47:19] <Tawn> Web content
[18:47:32] <Tawn> Design I like, content I hate :)
[18:47:57] <Tawn> I have loads of documents that have to be copied and formatted
[18:48:10] <Tawn> It's like English in school again :)
[18:48:23] <Tawn> Maybe that's why I hate it so much
[18:48:37] * Tawn shudders at the thought of his English teacher
[18:48:55] <Tawn> She was a b**ch
[18:49:08] <Tawn> And it's not beach :-)
[18:50:09] <Tawn> How bout you?
[18:50:13] <Tawn> What're you up to?
[18:52:33] <Baastuul> Oh, not too much... I had a virus scan running, played some Ultima 7 again, and just am checking my email.
[18:52:49] <Tawn> Ahh cool
[18:53:01] <Tawn> Have you seen Alun Bestor's patch?
[18:53:23] <Baastuul> Nope, what's that?
[18:53:47] <Tawn> It's a patch for BG that adds a small sub-plot and new interactions
[18:53:55] <Tawn> You can sheer shepp, milk cows
[18:54:06] <Tawn> Grind wheat
[18:54:09] <Tawn> Things like that :)
[18:55:00] <Tawn> I registered a dot com last night
[18:55:08] <Tawn> God those things are slow coming up
[18:55:12] <-- Matt_O has left IRC (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))
[18:55:35] <Tawn> http://www.wiredentertainment.net/exult/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=1&func=fileinfo&filecatid=4&parent=category
[18:55:44] <Tawn> Anyhow that's the link for it there
[18:55:54] <Baastuul> Awesome
[18:55:57] <Baastuul> What's your domain name, btw?
[18:56:26] <Tawn> The one I registered? esguide.com
[18:56:32] <Tawn> esguides.com even
[18:57:30] <Baastuul> cool
[18:57:44] <Baastuul> Is that the site you're putting in all the content for?
[18:57:55] --> EazyCheeze has joined #exult
[18:57:57] <EazyCheeze> yo
[18:58:03] <Tawn> Nah, the one i'm doing is for a Volunteering organisation
[18:58:21] <Tawn> They help other non-profit orgs recruit volunteers
[18:58:44] <Baastuul> Hi, EazyCheeze. :)
[18:58:48] <Baastuul> Tawn, cool, what's the organization?
[18:59:06] <Tawn> Galway Volunteer Centre
[19:01:14] <Tawn> Exult Guides are a bit thin on the ground right now, but with the ES Guides i hope that improves
[19:01:29] <Tawn> I'm going to do one on Usecode
[19:01:35] <Tawn> But I've a lot to learn yet :)
[19:01:37] <Baastuul> What does ES stand for?
[19:01:53] <Tawn> Exult Studio
[19:02:12] <Tawn> I want to create my own game with it you see
[19:02:17] <Tawn> So guides help me too :)
[19:02:26] <Baastuul> Is it possible to create stand-alone games with Exult Studio?
[19:02:38] <Tawn> Yes, it is
[19:02:46] <Baastuul> :o
[19:02:46] <Baastuul> cool
[19:02:50] <Tawn> You could create all your own graphics too
[19:02:59] <Tawn> But I'm going to use U7's
[19:03:03] <Baastuul> I've really only seen some of the screenshots for Exult Studio, I haven't really dabbled in it. :(
[19:03:22] <Tawn> The world creation is easy-peezy
[19:03:47] <Tawn> Even the conversations
[19:04:01] <Tawn> It's the events that get a little tricky
[19:04:38] <Baastuul> I'm so bad at scripting events and quests and the such I didn't even understand how to do that stuff in the Neverwinter Nights and Morrowind construction sets. :p
[19:04:46] <Tawn> :)
[19:05:01] <Baastuul> Have you ever messed with those two particular ones before?
[19:05:02] <-- EazyCheeze has left IRC ("oWiRC version 0.74")
[19:05:44] <Tawn> I had a quick look at NWN, but I never took to it
[19:06:00] <Tawn> It looked fine and all
[19:06:08] <Tawn> But I didn't like the "feel" of it
[19:06:23] <Tawn> Morrowind too, it's NPC interaction is aweful
[19:06:43] <Baastuul> ahh
[19:06:50] <Baastuul> Yes, the characters do seem awfully encyclopedic!
[19:06:55] <Tawn> Except for the graphics, you may as well be playing a text adventure :)
[19:07:07] <Tawn> But it did have some very good points
[19:07:18] <Tawn> And the next one should fix the NPC bit
[19:07:23] <Tawn> Isn't it funny
[19:07:31] <Tawn> We've come two decades
[19:07:47] <Tawn> And now another RPG is using schedules (the next Morrowind)
[19:07:57] <Tawn> It took them 20 years to catch on! :)
[19:07:58] <Baastuul> heheh
[19:08:00] <Baastuul> :D
[19:08:15] <Baastuul> I'm excited for Oblivion, I just hope I have a powerful enough system to handle it by the time it comes around.
[19:08:22] <Tawn> Yeah :)
[19:08:50] <Baastuul> Is it slated for release this Christmas or Christmas of 2006?
[19:08:58] <Tawn> That's right
[19:09:00] <Tawn> Around that
[19:11:23] <Tawn> I have the whole story for my game, all the main characters
[19:11:38] <Tawn> Just have to get good enough at Usecode that I can pull it off
[19:12:07] <Tawn> Studio makes it easy enough to do myself too
[19:12:08] <Baastuul> cool
[19:12:11] <Baastuul> I shall look forward to playing it!
[19:12:41] <Tawn> :)
[19:13:00] <Tawn> Your character starts on an islanf called Sul'erne
[19:13:11] <Tawn> So I'm going to create that part as a demo
[19:13:19] <Tawn> So I'll see how it goes :)
[19:13:49] <Tawn> Ack, see how willing I am to be drawn away from work! :)
[19:14:01] <Baastuul> :D
[19:18:52] <Tawn> Man I think these orgs judge each other on how much "information" they have on their site :)
[19:19:24] <Baastuul> hehehe
[19:19:40] <Baastuul> Oh, hey, is there a full list of what this patch does?
[19:19:45] <Baastuul> The one by Alun Bestor.
[19:19:54] <Tawn> Yeah, at the link I gave you :)
[19:19:57] <Tawn> Want it again?
[19:20:18] <Tawn> http://www.wiredentertainment.net/exult/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=1&func=fileinfo&filecatid=4&parent=category
[19:20:23] <Baastuul> Well, I'm there and it says that there should be one, but there isn't...
[19:20:37] <Baastuul> Or I'm probably just being blind again...
[19:20:43] <Tawn> Hmm, lol
[19:20:53] <Baastuul> It says, "For a full list of changes and additions, see "What this patch does" below."
[19:21:06] <Baastuul> But that isn't anywhere on there... ;)
[19:21:20] <Tawn> Oh yeah, sorry, it got cut off by the word limit
[19:21:31] <Baastuul> oh hehe ok
[19:21:47] <Tawn> You'll have to download it :)
[19:22:31] <Tawn> I'll up that word limit so we can fit full descriptions in there
[19:22:53] <Tawn> There is a full list in the readme that comes in the download
[19:22:56] <Baastuul> ok
[19:23:02] <Baastuul> I've downloaded the file already, so I'll just do that. :)
[19:23:02] <Baastuul> Thanks
[19:24:07] <Tawn> So anyway this org site has a doc titled "Are you ready for Virtual Volunteering"
[19:24:16] <Tawn> And it's 2 pages long!!
[19:24:30] <Baastuul> Do you have to type it all up by hand or something?
[19:24:32] <Tawn> I mean, is it really that complicated :)
[19:24:51] <Tawn> Nah, thankfully, but it's not formatted
[19:24:52] <Baastuul> Is the site currently up at all?
[19:25:18] <Tawn> Yeah, http://www.wiredentertainment.net/gvc/
[19:25:47] <Tawn> I am guilty of reusing some of the template from the guides, but we won't tell them ;-)
[19:26:54] <Tawn> It will contain an online Volunteer Vacancy system, where orgs can post positions they need filled
[19:27:09] <Tawn> I'm converting one that was already created for regular jobs
[19:27:29] <Tawn> Logo's not ready yet, the text is just a filler
[19:28:17] <Tawn> http://www.wiredentertainment.net/site is my Internet & Gaming Center
[19:29:34] <Baastuul> alrighty, I'll take a gander :)
[19:31:16] <Baastuul> looks good
[19:31:41] <Tawn> Thank you
[19:31:48] <Tawn> I'll tell you one thing though
[19:32:01] <Tawn> Ireland is really backward, with the web and other things
[19:32:16] <Tawn> Like the Tallaght Volunteer Bureau in Dublin
[19:32:22] <Tawn> They do the same thing
[19:32:38] <Tawn> But submissions on their site go to an email address
[19:32:48] <Tawn> Are manually entered into an offline database
[19:32:57] <Tawn> And then manually entered to the website
[19:33:02] <Baastuul> haha
[19:33:11] <Tawn> Even though they use a CMS for their website!
[19:33:12] <Baastuul> That sounds almost like the way I handle sites I make
[19:33:16] <Baastuul> I'm too lazy to learn any scripting
[19:33:21] <Tawn> Hehe
[19:33:22] <Baastuul> So I just manually input everything
[19:33:43] <Tawn> But they paid around 2,000+ dollars :)
[19:34:06] <Baastuul> :O
[19:34:10] <Tawn> Not great value for money i'd say :)
