[00:07:15] <Fingolfin> yes, caused by my excessive babbling =)
[00:07:57] <BET-frogger> *g*
[00:09:39] <BET-frogger> my ears are still intact.....at 2:00 I could be worse ;(
[00:11:52] <BET-frogger> I thought 'bleeding from ears' is new special special IRC slang or something like that, and asking about it maekeing me as an absoloute lamer :)))
[00:12:10] <BET-frogger> s/maekeing/marking
[00:22:25] <Fingolfin> hehe no no
[00:23:19] <Fingolfin> even if it was an IRC thing, it's OK to ask... I had to figure out PITA, IMHO, KISS, ROTFL and all the others one day in the past, too, and IMHO asking what they mean isn't a bad thing (although you can google for most of those, too)
[00:29:53] <BET-frogger> of course I googled after 'bleeding ears', but found nothing special...I'm not a regular IRCer.....more using it sporadically, but knowing most acronyms from the 'good old' DFUe days
[00:33:17] <BET-frogger> not long ago someone on UF asked for the "ultimate FYOS-Safe (geek-) gadget", it took me quite long to figure out what FYOS means....
[01:01:48] <BET-frogger> so let's hear what the man from texas has to say - god night

[06:05:20] <Yuv422> I haven't imported the code into cvs yet.

[14:11:56] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to Darke
[14:12:29] * Darke grumbles loudly as to The Stupidity That Is Telstra as he paws in the door.
[14:12:47] <Darke> And on that cheerful note, hiya! *grin*
[14:12:55] <Colourless> :-)
[14:29:41] <Colourless> so what stupidity did telstra inflict upon you now?
[14:30:18] <-- Kirben has left IRC (Read error: 104 (Connection reset by peer))
[14:34:41] <Darke> Oh, nothing in particular. IINet just had an outrage in quite a few exchanges on Sunday morning, which was apparently Telstra caused. 'Apparently' this was fixed by about 6pm lastnight... except it hasn't been fixed *still* in my exchange, which covers the entire brisbane CBD...
[14:35:05] <Darke> As One Might Imagine... I'm unimpressed. *grin*
[14:35:25] <Colourless> is there anything that telstra could do that would impress you?
[14:36:16] <Darke> And I can't say any of the brisbane city businesses which rely on ADSL internet would be impressed at all either, apparently there's 300 connections hanging off this exchange too, so it's not insignificant. *grin*
[14:36:41] <Darke> Employ me again at a rediculous pay scale for a fun, flexable job like lasttime? *grin*
[14:37:46] <Colourless> :-)
[14:37:56] <Colourless> but that wouldn't impress me though :-)
[14:38:35] <Darke> Probably not. *grin*
[15:30:34] <-- Dark-Star has left IRC ("Leaving")
[15:56:53] --> wjp has joined #exult
[15:56:53] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to wjp
[15:56:55] <wjp> hi
[15:57:02] <Colourless> hi
[15:57:32] <wjp> Fingolfin: does MacOSX have a case-insensitive filesystem?
[15:57:52] <wjp> just wondering because nuvie (yuv422's U6 engine) has a couple of case mismatches in #include's
[15:58:06] <Fingolfin> the standard file system is semi-case insensitive
[15:58:18] <Darke> Hi.
[15:58:19] <Fingolfin> that is you can't have both a "install" and "INSTALL" file
[15:58:27] <Fingolfin> but the FS will remmeber the case you used to name a file
[15:58:47] <Colourless> that support is the same as windows :-)
[15:59:41] <Fingolfin> well DOS would alawys store in upper case, for example, that's a "fully case-insenstivie FS", hence I called this "semi" :-)
[15:59:45] <wjp> anyway, nuvie does compile on linux after fixing that, adding an empty util.h (?) and fixing main() to work properly with SDL
[16:00:01] <Fingolfin> where can one see this thing?
[16:00:53] <wjp> nuvie on SF
[16:00:55] <Colourless> Fingolfin: well strictly speaking dos was totally case sensitive, but you could only use uppercase. If a filename contained a lowercase character, it could cause major problems for programs :-)
[16:01:24] <Fingolfin> but the shell was insnsetive, I coud type "zak" and it would start "ZAK.BAT" ... :-)
[16:01:53] <Fingolfin> somebody should tell the nuvie guy it's "Mac OS X" not "MacOSX" :-)
[16:02:10] <Colourless> but it would startn't ZaK.BAT if someone had 'hacked' the fs
[16:02:17] <Fingolfin> yes
[16:02:27] <Fingolfin> I know <g>
[16:02:42] <Fingolfin> that allowed some really "nice" things :-)
[16:02:55] <Colourless> IIRC some games use lowercase characters on their floppys as a form of copy protection. not really an effective method, since you could just use diskcopy :-)
[16:03:04] <Fingolfin> yup
[16:06:09] <wjp> have you been getting a lot of timeouts on SF's project web servers too lately?
[16:06:32] <Fingolfin> web servers? no not at all
[16:06:54] <wjp> I get a timeout on the exult forum about 50% of the time
[16:07:20] <wjp> (both from home and uni)
[16:08:25] <Colourless> me too
[16:08:33] <Colourless> forum access could be better for me
[16:09:16] <Colourless> probably not quite 50%, but access to sf sites, in particular our forum is far from perfect
[16:09:43] <Colourless> that being, it's not as bad as getting timeouts 50% of the time
[16:15:42] <Colourless> i think i'll be off now
[16:15:45] <Colourless> cya

[22:00:14] <Dominus> hi Fingolfin
[22:00:24] <Fingolfin> hi
[22:51:31] <Fingolfin> Dominus: already heared? we lost a team member on ScummVM last friday... http://www.scummvm.org/
[22:51:46] <Dominus> no
[22:52:04] <Dominus> checking
[22:53:24] <Dominus> oh
[22:53:38] <Dominus> didn't he come here as well at some times?
[22:53:44] <Dominus> ?seen yot
[22:53:44] <exultbot> I haven't seen yot lately
[22:56:14] <Dominus> that's really sad
[23:00:34] <Fingolfin> it is
[23:00:38] <Fingolfin> he also worked on dosbox a bit I think
[23:01:00] <Fingolfin> I didn't know him too well but spoke with him only a few days before friday
[23:01:20] <Dominus> his name was definitely one I knew, mostly from #uwadv
[23:05:06] --> Yuv422 has joined #exult
[23:05:35] <Yuv422> hi
[23:06:03] <Dominus> hi Yuv422, your project seems to interest a lot of people :-)
[23:06:26] <Yuv422> :)
[23:06:41] <Yuv422> long live U6.
[23:06:51] <Dominus> so, when can I play U6 with your engine? tomorrow? :-)
[23:06:54] <Fingolfin> I hate the project
[23:07:11] <Fingolfin> because I can't read my U6 floppy disks w/o a disk drive 8-)
[23:07:34] <Yuv422> :(
[23:09:34] <Yuv422> MacOSX changed to Mac OS X on webpage. :)
[23:09:47] <Fingolfin> Yuv422: good on ya =)
[23:09:52] <Dominus> I LOVE it because I recently won an auction for Martian Dreams on ebay :-)
[23:10:22] <Yuv422> I don't own savage. so I don't know how I'm going to support that one. but I own U6 and Martian.
[23:11:02] <Yuv422> did wjp say which includes were the wrong case?
[23:11:25] <Yuv422> yeah martian was a great game. :)
[23:12:05] --> Dark-Star has joined #exult
[23:12:11] <Dominus> I haven't played it yet
[23:12:33] <Dominus> didn't even get it yet, has to travel from the us to me :-)
[23:13:21] <Yuv422> where abouts are you Dominus?
[23:13:54] <Dominus> Austria
[23:14:09] <Yuv422> ah k. I'm in australia :)
[23:14:57] <Fingolfin> does that link to nuvie look OK ? http://fingolfin.dnsalias.net/~maxhorn/scummvm/links.php
[23:15:02] <Dominus> I always have to make sure to write "AUSTRIA - EUROPE" on postcards from the US as many people confuse Austria and Australia
[23:15:45] <Fingolfin> Dominus: there is a difference?!? I always thought Wien was just a nickname for Sydney!
[23:15:56] <Dominus> bah!
[23:15:58] <Dominus> :-)
[23:16:23] <Yuv422> Fingolfin: yeah link looks good. :)
[23:17:00] <Fingolfin> "like Nuvie You'll love " -> should be "like Nuvie you'll love"
[23:17:08] <Dominus> seriously just a month ago an american woman asked me where I was from and I said Austria, then she looked really buffled (because of my german accent) and asked what kind of language we speak over there...?
[23:17:31] <Fingolfin> :-)
[23:18:34] <Yuv422> changed.
[23:19:05] <Yuv422> I think I'll add a links page too.
[23:21:46] --> ShadwChsr has joined #exult
[23:22:07] <Yuv422> Fingolfin: Do you develop in Project Builder?
[23:22:42] <Yuv422> If so do you do your cvs work in PB or from the shell?
[23:27:30] <Yuv422> Dominus: I think it will be quite awhile before you can play U6 as a game in Nuvie.
[23:27:47] <Dominus> he he
[23:28:02] <Dominus> just wanted to give you a taste of things to come :-)
[23:28:20] <Yuv422> It depends on how the game schedule has been implemented and how easy it is reverse engineer.
[23:28:31] <Yuv422> hehe yeah. ;P
[23:29:19] * Yuv422 braces for "Why isn't it playable yet!?" Messages. ;)
[23:29:34] <Dominus> exactly :-)
[23:36:41] <Fingolfin> Yuv422: I do use ProjectBuilder, yes, but for SDL apps (exult, ScummVM, xu4 etc. I prefer the command line interface for all my work)
[23:37:04] <Yuv422> pbxbuild or Makefiles?
[23:37:36] <Fingolfin> makefiles
[23:37:53] <Fingolfin> pbxbuild is just for building project builder projects from the CLI
[23:38:17] <Yuv422> I'm just trying to find those incorrect includes.
[23:39:25] <Yuv422> are there any switches in gcc to turn on case sensitive includes? I guess not as it is being served from the FS case insensitivly. :(
[23:40:12] <Dark-Star> Yuv422: Try to find a consistent way for naming your include files and you won't have that problem :-)
[23:40:47] <Dark-Star> (sorry, couldn't resist ;-)
[23:41:03] <Yuv422> hehe np
[23:41:21] <Yuv422> I use ClassName style
[23:41:54] <Yuv422> so I might have miss typed one of the capitals on the include line. :(
[23:47:16] * Dark-Star looks at the Nuvie source code...
[23:48:26] <Dark-Star> you're not using the stuff in tools/ are you?
[23:48:36] <Yuv422> nope
[23:48:48] <Dark-Star> good. I almost got a heart attack there :-)
[23:48:57] <Yuv422> I was just using that to look into some of the files.
[23:49:01] <Yuv422> why?
[23:50:00] <Dark-Star> well, C++ has a very good stack implementation already. and the #define TRUE 1 etc. are not pretty either since "true" and "false" are defined by C++ too
[23:50:25] <Yuv422> yeah I've started to take them out. :)
[23:50:53] <Yuv422> the stack was orinially from nodlings lzw implementation
[23:51:23] <Dark-Star> oh, the same files appear again in files/, I think I'll ignore them too for the moment...
[23:51:29] <Yuv422> this is my first project with C++ so please be gentle. ;)
[23:52:04] <Yuv422> yeah you need the lzw stuff to unpack most of the game files.
[23:53:17] <Yuv422> objective C uses TRUE and FALSE instead of true and false.
[23:53:34] <Dark-Star> hehe no problem, I'm not so well into C++ myself :)
[23:54:16] <Dark-Star> I'm loading your files into MSVC at the moment to check if they compile there...
[23:54:25] <Yuv422> ah k
[23:55:28] <Dark-Star> hmm, you sure your CVS is up to date? ;-)
[23:55:35] <Dominus> Yuv422: someone on the forum mentioned hardcoded paths (might be something to check your code for)
[23:55:53] <Yuv422> yeah that is the location of the config file
[23:56:00] <Yuv422> I'll fix that today.
[23:56:23] <Yuv422> so it looks in the usual places to find the nuvie.cfg file.
[23:57:07] <Dark-Star> well, here are a few bugfixes for your code:
[23:57:37] <Dark-Star> in U6LList.h, change "typedef struct U6Link {..." to "struct U6Link {..."
[23:57:59] <Yuv422> right
[23:58:31] <Dark-Star> ObjManager.cpp doesn't compile at all for me, I'll look into it later
[23:59:22] <Dark-Star> in nuvie.cpp, why do you need #include <unistd.h>? Windows doesn't have it and it compiles fine without, maybe it can be safely removed
