[00:12:06] --> Jammet has joined #exult
[00:12:25] * Jammet sneaksneaks in and peeks at wjp. ~Mew~ =)
[00:12:53] * Jammet sits down and is going to wait for that next Linux show to come up. It shouldn't be long.
[00:21:30] --- sbx|afk is now known as sbx
[00:21:53] <sbx> nice movie
[00:21:53] <sbx> rehi Jammet
[00:29:35] <Jammet> Hej sbx =)
[00:29:41] <Jammet> Movie?
[00:31:16] <sbx> man on fire
[00:31:23] <sbx> i was testing Xine :)
[00:32:20] <sbx> and it worked like a charm w/5.1sound (thanks for the tip servus)
[00:33:17] * Jammet wonders if there is a linux show tonight at all. It's IRC channel is almost empty.
[00:33:20] <Jammet> That's odd.
[00:33:53] <sbx> what are you talking about? some internet stream?
[00:35:31] <Jammet> Yes...
[00:35:53] <sbx> that reminds me I was going to try GXine's "mediamarks"
[00:36:02] <Jammet> It's weekly on Tuesdays ... Eric Raymond's on almost every shiw since months, and some others, and they have interesting themes usually.
[00:36:04] <sbx> though I'm only on dial-up
[00:37:12] <sbx> Hmm. Are you completely blind now, or did you get better I hope?
[00:38:41] <Jammet> I'm feeling a lot better. I was very scared when that happend but after half an hour, it gradually went back to normal. It was hopefully just because of exhaustion... I was weak and had no sleep for a long time.
[00:39:16] <Jammet> The effect still feels scary to me. I hope that will never happen again.
[00:41:51] <sbx> servus posted another screenshot of exult-3d
[00:41:55] <sbx> did you see the latest?
[00:43:32] <sbx> well, what's the last you saw
[00:43:55] <Jammet> Mmh ...well plenty.
[00:44:05] <Jammet> I didn't really look at the filenames.
[00:44:28] <sbx> i like this one
[00:44:29] <sbx> http://4.60.183.93/images/screenshots/Exult3D-11.jpg
[00:46:33] <Jammet> Loovely.
[00:46:57] <Jammet> No I hadn' seen that bfore. The pillars textured now too =).
[00:47:15] <Jammet> The idea alone was beautiful, I'm very happy to see some thing like this.
[00:47:33] <sbx> yeah, he will go 3d models eventually
[00:48:00] <Jammet> Um, do you know how to have an xterm load a really big font? All I get are tiny ones like 9x15 and things like that. Took small. I'd like a bold one anyway.
[00:48:16] <Jammet> I've offered my help, I'm good with graphics. Maybe there is something I can do.
[00:48:27] <sbx> Probably the -fn option.
[00:48:37] <sbx> Do you know how to resize the text while in xterm?
[00:48:42] <sbx> Shift-+ Shift--
[00:48:47] <Jammet> I'm using the -fn option, but font handing is a curse.
[00:49:11] <Jammet> Yes, but it cycles through 4 fonts - all of which are kinda small.
[00:49:35] <sbx> You can use xfontsel.
[00:50:05] <Jammet> My actual problem is that I've never figured why I can't use a normal X11 font for an Xterm as well. Like, using Arial.
[00:50:09] <sbx> Select all the appropriate filters from the dropdowns, then press select and middle click into your command line after -fn.
[00:50:13] <Jammet> For some oddball reason I can't.
[00:50:17] <sbx> oh
[00:50:40] <sbx> are you using the XFontDescriptor name style?
[00:50:44] <sbx> I don't think xterm uses fontconfig.
[00:50:51] <Jammet> Those fonts it'll show me are most probably usable in everything except for a terminal window.
[00:51:07] <Jammet> Um, now you're asking too much, I have no idea.
[00:51:30] <sbx> Is Arial unusable in xterm? There are also other fixed-width fonts.
[00:51:34] <Jammet> I've seen that KDE's konsole can do that, but running KDE just for that purpose ... naah.
[00:51:46] <Jammet> aterm: can't load font "arial"
[00:52:11] <Jammet> Is it seriously expecting me to type in that really long like of font descriptors? I probably should but ...
[00:52:36] <sbx> no you can copy it from xfontsel
[00:52:41] <Jammet> I'll try.
[00:52:49] <sbx> just select your font there and push select
[00:52:54] <sbx> that will put it in the xclipboard
[00:53:20] <sbx> for some reason I dont have arial though :) I don't think I installed it into the old X database
[00:53:24] <sbx> im using Xft/Xorg
[00:53:33] <sbx> and have all my fonts in ~/.fonts
[00:53:55] <Jammet> aterm -fn "-*-arial black-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*" ... LOL =)
[00:54:02] <Jammet> That works and looks ugly but hey, it works.
[00:54:08] <sbx> nice
[00:54:09] <sbx> hehe
[00:54:30] <sbx> you should use something like lucida console
[00:54:42] <sbx> or just select a bigger "fixed"
[00:54:47] <Jammet> I've just plain been looking for a fixed standard linux typical font that isn't the size of an ant onscreen. I mean, that was adequate in '95 but...
[00:55:07] <Jammet> Thanks =).
[00:55:25] <sbx> np
[00:55:30] <sbx> -*-lucidatypewriter-*-*-*-*-*-240-*-*-*-*-*-*
[00:55:32] <sbx> heh
[00:56:29] <Jammet> That's too big, but I can use that setting and shrink it some.
[00:56:55] <sbx> do you have XFt?
[00:57:08] <Jammet> I'll try and enter some of those sizes in aterm's world config file.
[00:57:42] <Jammet> Yes, smoothing is there, but I'd rather not have that in an xterm. I guess. Don't know. With GUI I kinda like it above 20...
[00:58:38] <sbx> I like XFt being standard in Xorg but I still have to use the old font directories for old programs.
[00:58:49] <sbx> which I havn't set up yet so I can't even access most of my fonts from xterm
[00:59:10] <Jammet> It's in /usr/share/fonts since the 6.8.0 release. I can't use that just yet, the ati-drivers in gentoo are not 6.8.0 compatible.
[00:59:23] <Jammet> But yeah, xorg is coming along really beautifully.
[00:59:49] <sbx> $ fc-list | wc -l
[00:59:50] <sbx> 233
[00:59:57] <Jammet> Looks like aterm doesn't know any config file.
[01:00:09] <Jammet> 182 ...
[01:00:11] <sbx> there's always .Xresources
[01:00:33] <Jammet> Right.
[01:00:52] <Jammet> I hope I can setup a global Xresources too, everyone in the house should be able to profit from that.
[01:02:40] <sbx> Yeah... though some people would say having all application settings in one file is a bad idea. You can use app-defaults in that case. (but I just dump everything in ~/.Xresources)
[01:03:19] <Jammet> You mean if I open /etc/X11/app-defaults/Xresources that's used the way it's supposed to?
[01:03:41] * Jammet mews. Don't know much about X really.
[01:04:01] <sbx> More like /etc/X11/app-defaults/applicationname
[01:04:11] <sbx> application class*
[01:04:12] <sbx> like XTerm
[01:04:16] <Jammet> Xresources is a kind of nightmade to me, typically I don't find a manpage the first attempt, but I'll manage.
[01:04:21] <sbx> but I don't use it
[01:04:22] <sbx> heh
[01:04:34] <sbx> yeah I don't use it much either, just when a programs docs tell me to
[01:04:50] <sbx> and to update the Motif style
[01:06:08] <sbx> if you really wanted to know
[01:06:11] <sbx> man X
[01:06:16] <sbx> /RESOURCES
[01:06:29] * sbx hasn't read that!
[01:06:34] <Jammet> Found it ...
[01:06:47] <Jammet> I'm editing the Xterm app-default and see if I can make it work.
[01:08:59] <Jammet> Yup works.
[01:10:22] <sbx> :)

[01:23:44] <-- Jammet has left IRC (Remote closed the connection)
[01:24:25] --> Jammet has joined #exult
[01:24:33] <Jammet> There I am again ...
[01:25:09] <Jammet> Mmh... no it doesn't work. Only XTerm reads and understands, aterm doesn't, despite it's man page insisting that it would.
[01:33:44] <sbx> did you use proper case?
[01:34:14] <sbx> it should work in the Xresources but I don't know about XTerm's app-defaults
[01:42:32] <sbx> or ln -s XTerm ATerm

[05:57:07] <servus> I think I have still trouble aligning textures... Probably why things look so cruddy.
[06:41:38] --> Kabalx has joined #exult
[07:08:44] <servus> Yes, my texture alignment problems are still severe :-(
[07:08:58] <servus> This shouldn't be so bleedin' difficult..
[07:09:08] <servus> I'm tempted just to brute-force it :-)
[07:11:11] <servus> Hmm, that's a sight better, yes.
[07:11:13] * servus babbles.
[07:24:37] <servus> OK, got everything working except for gumps. After that, it's usability changes -- camera movement, and proper mouse selection.
