[21:59:25] <servus> At the risk of sounding like a broken record, why doesnt' somebody proactively *do* something about the spam on the forum? Not saying you need a full-fledged CAPTCHYA, but something like that would certainly do it. It would take the modification of 3 or so lines of PHP!
[21:59:34] <servus> That goes for Exult and Nuvie.
[22:00:37] <wjp> because deleting a bit of spam every once in a while currently is less annoying than having to copy silly words in pictures when you want to make a post?
[22:03:00] <servus> I'm not talking about that. You can make it transparent for the user. Make it so the JavaScript onsubmit="" action for the <form> sets a hidden field to something valid and required for posting. I doubt most of those spammer bots have JavaScript capability, and I'm sure 99% of your posters *do*. If the spambots *can* use JavaScript, then oh well, it was worth a try. <form action="postit.php" onsubmit="this.goodpost.value=1;re
[22:03:00] <servus> turn true;"><input type="hidden" name="goodpost" value="0"><input type="submit" value="Submit your post"></form> and in postit.php: <?php if( $_REQUEST['goodpost'] != '1' ) die( "Enable JavaScript, spammer!" ); ?>
[22:03:52] <servus> Just conjecture, of course :)
[22:04:31] <SB-X> well, then you'd have to Enable JavaScript, spammer
[22:05:14] <SB-X> but I'm in the 99% of posters that can and I don't mind
[22:05:17] <servus> Even Links supports JavaScript.
[22:06:20] <servus> Of course, now that I've run my mouth, the SpamBots are probably using an IE control to do the spamming, so my point will be moot, but I've lots of silly ideas for transparent protection like that, and one is bound to work!
