[11:25:53] <Colourless> hi
[11:25:54] <Ember> Greetings, oh evil one.
[11:26:06] --- Ember is now known as DarkeZzz
[11:26:38] * DarkeZzz wonders why he can't take his non-sleeping nick... hrm...
[11:30:04] --- DarkeZzz is now known as Darke
[11:30:18] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to Darke
[11:30:49] <Colourless> :-)
[11:31:39] * Darke had a machine at work logged in as him, which he had forgotten about, it seems to have lost the channel it was on, and was wandering aimlessly on freenode.net. *grin*
[11:36:10] <Colourless> well, gee, you've been asleep for so long, it doesn't surprise me :-)
[11:37:25] * Darke ... err... couldn't remember password either. Had to poke his irc logs to locate it. It obviously *has* been a while. *grin*
[11:38:19] * Darke bounces hyperactively around the channel, refreshed after his longlong nap!
[11:39:23] * Colourless imagines bad things happening now
[11:45:25] * Darke is a good bunny! He'd never cause anything bad to happen!
[11:50:32] <Colourless> i distinctly remember you saying you were evil
[11:52:00] <Darke> Can't be! I'm good! Really I am! Not an ounce of evil in me at all! *adjusts halo*
[11:53:58] <Colourless> your actions in the past would suggest otherwise
[12:00:15] <Darke> Merely scurrilous rumors blown out of proportion by my detractors. I assure you, I am *completely* innocent of any evil acts, and am indeed completely pure and innocent.
[12:01:03] * Darke continues to adjust his halo to make sure it balances *just* right. It's always a pain what with his horns^Wears getting in the way all the time.

[12:03:28] <wjp> hi
[12:04:36] <Darke> Hi!
[12:07:39] <Colourless> hi
[12:07:59] <wjp> NWN sure takes some getting used to :-)
[12:08:05] <wjp> no party :-(
[12:08:28] <wjp> just this 'henchman' concept
[12:08:54] <wjp> ..., but the control you have over those seems to be fairly limited
[12:09:16] <Colourless> the SoU expansion has improved control
[12:09:37] <Colourless> and the HotU expansion is supposed to improve it a bit again
[12:11:02] <wjp> can you have multiple henchmen, btw?
[12:11:14] <Colourless> of course, the improvements only affect the the actual expansion. The SoU improvements do not effect the original NWN, and HotU improvments wont effect SoU and so on
[12:11:20] <Colourless> no, you can only have 1 henchman
[12:11:39] <Colourless> in HotU, if i'm not mistaken they allow you to have more than one
[12:12:06] <Colourless> if you are not a spell caster, keep all your Summon Creature scrolls
[12:12:28] <Colourless> since a summoned creature pretty much acts exactly like a henchman
[12:13:03] <wjp> I'm playing a paladin currently
[12:13:17] <wjp> are there spellcasting henchmen?
[12:13:25] <Colourless> yes
[12:13:41] <wjp> how much control do you have over which spells they cast?
[12:14:12] <Colourless> i can't remember, but not alot :-)
[12:15:15] <wjp> I guess that means that mage-combat is a lot less complex than in BG2:ToB :/
[12:15:44] <Colourless> yeah, it's almost non existant
[12:16:19] <Colourless> not to say it doesn't exist
[12:17:48] <Colourless> in the Trade of Blades you can get different henchmen. Just talk to all of them to find out what they do
[12:18:12] <wjp> I haven't explored the city much, yet
[12:18:21] <Colourless> now, you 'should' hire all of them, because if you complete their individual quests you get magic items, which later in the game can get upgraded
[12:18:30] <wjp> I hired the rogue at the start and cleared out the prison with him
[12:18:40] <wjp> but that's about it
[12:18:51] <wjp> hm, magic items.. :-)
[12:19:16] <Colourless> to get start their quests, you need to talk to them about their pasts
[12:19:44] <wjp> that rogue didn't want to tell me yet because I wasn't experienced enough :-)
[12:19:44] <Colourless> you'll need to do it a number of times before the quest will start.
[12:20:02] <Colourless> yes, after a level up you should be able to talk
[12:20:34] <wjp> hm, don't think I tried it yet after my last level up, come to think of it
[12:20:38] <Colourless> silly thing about it, you might find 'odd' items around the place that are worth like 1 gp
[12:20:59] <Colourless> they 'might' be quest items for the henchmen, so selling them might not be wise :-)
[12:21:31] <wjp> would they be retrievable from that divining pool?
[12:21:36] <wjp> or are those only main quest items?
[12:23:01] <Colourless> no, they are not. Only main quest items can be retrieved from the divining pool
[12:23:26] <Colourless> i would know, i sold a henchman plot item, and spent ages attempting to find who i sold it too
[12:24:05] <wjp> hm, I think I only sold armour, weapons and gems so far
[12:25:40] <Colourless> annoyance in the game is that by the time you can by +1, then +2 armour/weapons, you probably have already found them on quests
[12:25:47] <Colourless> a/by/buy/
[12:25:52] <Colourless> s/a/s/
[12:25:55] <Colourless> :-)
[12:26:07] <Colourless> so you begin to get an excessive amount of gold
[12:26:23] <Colourless> but in the end i used all mine up buying magic rings and stuff
[12:26:39] <Colourless> things like Ring of Protection +5 is kind of useful :-)
[12:27:55] <wjp> +5? yikes :-)
[12:28:07] <Colourless> by the end of the game i could get my armour class upto 31, and i was a bard, with only the light armour feat :-)
[12:28:08] <wjp> that would be, what, 25000 gold?
[12:28:21] <wjp> or 50000 maybe
[12:28:29] <Colourless> it was a lot :-)
[12:29:50] <Colourless> checking, it's about 25000
[12:30:43] <wjp> hm, should be 50000
[12:30:53] <wjp> (just looked it up in the 'real' 3rd edition rules)
[12:31:22] <wjp> looks like you got quite a bargain :-)
[12:34:56] <wjp> in our "real life" (well....) D&D game we just finished an adventure and I got enough gold out of it to buy some nice Gauntlets of Ogre Power +2 (+2 to strength)
[12:35:04] * wjp had been saving up gold for a while to buy those :-)
[13:06:34] * Darke always found it odd that the relatively low-magic D&D worlds, always seemed to end up being incredibly high in magic when translated into computer games. Just look at the gold-box series, for example. *grin*
[13:11:00] <Darke> Then again, the p&p rules of some of the worlds could never make up their mind either, really. Just take Forgotten Realms, with Ed Greenwood^W^WElminster doing things that put gods to shame with his magic, the Red Wizards running around with multiple armies of golems/skeletons and copious amounts of magical weaponry/armour. For a faction that controls a large territory, and has been at war with basicly the rest of Faerun for quite a while (a thousand years? ca
[13:11:00] <Darke> n't remember...) they seem to have let little of their magical items be 'lost' in combat and disseminated to the rest of the world.
[13:13:16] <Darke> Then you have an adventure group of 1-3rd level characters running around with a potion or two, and maybe a +1 sword from their adventures, cities and towns lacking much in the way of magic (though their 'elite' guardsmen may have a +1/2 armour/weapon), and a general magic-awe of the population. Doesn't really seem to knit together well. *grin*
[13:14:52] * Darke yawns and thinks he should be sleeping, rather then rambling. *grin*
[13:41:29] <wjp> fighting together with a rogue is kind of nice :-)
[13:41:40] <wjp> because of the flanking nearly all his hits are sneak attacks :-)
