[08:44:07] <Dominus> seems we are crashing during the day in sleeping bull... :(
[08:44:16] <Dominus> need to regression test where that comes from...
[08:45:11] <Rottingbeef> I've recently been playing through Serpent Isle!
[08:45:21] <Rottingbeef> This is me attempting to be a part of the discussion while not being particularly helpful.
[08:46:15] <Rottingbeef> I didn't notice any crashing while in The Sleeping Bull, but I did notice consistent crashing while raiding the mint with what's-her-face.
[08:47:19] <Rottingbeef> (I'm using version 1.4.9.0.)
[09:19:15] <Dominus> Rottingbeef: don't play with 1.4.9 :)
[09:19:37] <Dominus> it has been rid off a couple of potential crashes
[09:20:22] <Dominus> I'm pretty sure that the sleeping bull crash is fairly new
[09:39:15] <Dominus> hmm, again revision 7324 :(
[09:39:32] <Dominus> MARZO!!! we need help!!!
[09:52:21] <Dominus> hmm, seems to loop between Actor::set_schedule_and_loc and Actor::set_schedule_type
[09:54:32] <Dominus> https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=3608937&group_id=2335&atid=102335
[10:09:17] <wjp> the basic issue seems to be schedule.cc line 964
[10:09:45] <wjp> where Patrol_schedule apparently reverts to the default schedule when it can't find a path
[10:10:17] <wjp> (path egg, I suspect)
[10:10:26] <wjp> but that is again a patrol schedule here?
[10:12:35] <Dominus> could be that it tries to run street maintanance or it's just the schedule change or so
[10:14:02] <wjp> no, it's just a patrol schedule failing to find a path egg in an infinite loop
[10:15:08] <Dominus> not sure who runs patrol there, though :)
[10:15:54] <Dominus> funnilly I had noticed it when I made all the schedule and shape changes for that harlem shake video but thought my tinkering had produced some issue :)
[10:16:33] <wjp> if you still have gdb open, you can get the npc_num
[10:17:37] <Dominus> closed it but I can do it quickly
[10:18:43] <Dominus> wjp: so now, how do I learn the npc #?
[10:19:12] <wjp> do 'up' until you're in a function that starts with Actor::
[10:19:38] <wjp> and then 'print this->npc_num'
[10:20:28] <Dominus> hmm, first actor is actor::ready_best_weapon
[10:20:57] <wjp> that's fine
[10:20:59] <Dominus> that is 37
[10:21:45] <Dominus> ah, it's the parrot, Ale
[10:22:20] <wjp> right, that one is set to Patrol between 9 and 12
[10:23:12] <wjp> and I indeed see no path eggs around
[10:24:01] <wjp> um, is music horribly broken?
[10:24:02] <Dominus> seems to be special case this parrot
[10:24:19] <wjp> special case? how so?
[10:24:22] <Dominus> music, I have no idea. I mostly run silent these days
[10:24:42] <wjp> the music sounds like random noise
[10:24:57] <Dominus> special case, I mean he has a patrol schedule but no patrol eggs
[10:25:15] <Dominus> wjp: that *sounds* bad
[10:26:03] <Dominus> wjp, music seems to be normal for me
[10:26:09] <Dominus> what midi driver?
[10:26:15] <wjp> hm, will try a clean build first
[10:34:48] <wjp> wow, this is completely weird
[10:36:20] <Dominus> ?
[10:42:45] <wjp> it's like it's using a random selection of instruments or something like that
[10:44:26] <Dominus> which midi driver?
[10:44:32] <wjp> all of them
[10:45:37] <Dominus> strange, is it your midi backend?
[10:45:53] <Dominus> the last thing marzo messed with was the fluidsynth stuff
[10:45:54] <wjp> that's the same thing as driver
[10:46:27] <Dominus> I mean whatever your system provides for midi
[10:46:33] <wjp> there is no such thing
[10:46:51] <Dominus> on Windows, I'd suggest check your soundcard drivers, etc... :)
[10:47:16] <wjp> everything is turned into wav by either fmopl or fluidsynth or timidity or ...
[10:47:36] <Dominus> ok
[10:49:55] <Dominus> strange
[10:50:02] <Dominus> everything sounds fine here
[10:57:22] <wjp> it was fine a few months ago; bisect time I suppose
[10:57:56] <wjp> it may actually be weather?
[10:59:01] <Dominus> hmm, that rings a bell.
[11:01:51] <Dominus> some effect stuff has been done, I think...
[11:10:43] <wjp> not entirely bisected yet, but 7279 is looking like the only relevant one in the range that's left
[11:18:11] <wjp> right
[11:18:29] <wjp> are you using digital music or mt32, by the way?
[11:23:22] <wjp> when using oggs I hear birds or crickets
[11:24:13] <Dominus> I tried with coreaudio and fmopl
[11:24:15] <wjp> it's also kind of worrying how you can outrun raindrops :-)
[11:24:29] <wjp> like they only fall right on top of where you are :-)
[11:25:06] <Dominus> he he, never noticed :)
[11:26:07] <wjp> when running south the bottom half of the screen is rain free
[11:26:16] <wjp> and when you stop it catches up
[11:29:23] <Dominus> that may be needed to be recorded as a bug :)

[12:55:47] <Dominus> Marzo: we need help! Patrol schedule without patrol eggs crashes exult
[12:55:59] <Dominus> parrot ale in sleeping bull at 9-12...
[12:57:35] <Rottingbeef> <@Dominus> Rottingbeef: don't play with 1.4.9 :) <-- Which version would you suggest playing?
[12:57:47] <Rottingbeef> I've noticed that it's kind of a wonky version.
[12:58:57] <Rottingbeef> Er, sorry, actually, hold that thought. I'll be right back.

[13:10:43] <Rottingbeef> Hej.
[13:18:13] <Dominus> Rottingbeef: the snapshots
[13:18:40] <Dominus> except for this regression the snapshot is better
[13:53:30] <Rottingbeef> I've never actually used the Snapshots and don't entirely know what the difference between it and the regular Exult is.

[16:42:14] <Dominus> Rottingbeef: I bet that is a frequently asked question :)
[19:16:55] <Eviltar_> are the snapshots just like nightly svn trunk builds rather than release candidates?
[19:17:06] <Eviltar_> or maybe not even nightly
[20:56:36] <-- Marzo has left IRC (Ping timeout: 260 seconds)
[21:18:30] <sh4rm4> the snapshots appear to provide the latest svn version
[21:18:50] <sh4rm4> so if the last commit was 1 week ago, so is your latest snapshot
[21:19:03] <Eviltar_> thats what I thought they were but I'm wrong a lot

[23:20:04] --- Baastuul_ is now known as Rottingbeef
[23:20:37] <Rottingbeef> SugarCube, what's up?
[23:21:20] <Rottingbeef> And, Dominus, yeah, probably! Since finding out about Exult, I've pretty much only stuck to the regular client itself. I'm not a programmer, and generally speaking most of the things you guys talk about in here goes way over my head.
[23:21:40] <Rottingbeef> In other words, I am a filthy plebeian.
[23:22:26] <Rottingbeef> (And if we're going to take it there, I guess I am a Mundane, and you all are surprisingly not arrogant Mages. [Insert horribly nerdy laugh here that really just makes everyone feel awkward and uncomfortable.]

[23:34:24] <SugarCube> Now that you mention it, I suppose too much hasn't fundamentally changed in the last five years. :)
[23:36:00] <Rottingbeef> I don't remember the specific version number, but I seem to recall a version of Exult not too long before 1.4.9.0 that was really stable and didn't have so many weird quirks.
[23:36:11] <Rottingbeef> But that was already ages ago.
