[17:07:00] --> Marzo has joined #exult
[17:20:11] <Dominus> Marzo!!! Are you back to frequent visits? Do you finally have real internet?
[17:20:44] <Marzo> Kind of yes, and definitely yes :-)
[17:21:14] <Dominus> (I‘m on family holiday in the Netherlands near Rotterdam right now and only partially here via mobile irc)
[17:21:39] <Marzo> One small issue I came across implementing the BG intro SFX and extended SI intro: what should we do with the new stuff
[17:22:12] <Marzo> Distributing them in exult_(bg|si).flx would add about 30MB of download size
[17:22:31] <Dominus> Yes, I thought about that as well
[17:22:32] <Marzo> Distributing the extended SI intro in exult_si.flx would add 15MB
[17:22:53] <Marzo> And a purist might object about the fact that the intro is not the original one
[17:23:17] <Marzo> (but to be fair, a purist would not use Exult for many reasons...)
[17:23:22] <Dominus> Yes, we need a way to view it from the menu I think
[17:23:45] <Marzo> I am also thinking of adding a "return to main menu" option
[17:23:51] <Marzo> Finally
[17:23:59] <Marzo> It should not be too difficult
[17:24:44] <Dominus> Making extra flx files for download would probably the best - otoh it‘s sometimes not easy to comprehend for some people
[17:25:15] <Marzo> Yeah
[17:25:50] <Dominus> Still didn’t have luck in getting the original flic files from Denis Loubet. He told me he would look... but that‘s already been a while
[17:25:56] <Marzo> I half wonder if we shouldn't just bundle everything in Exult (all SFX, old and new, as well as the extended intro)
[17:26:34] <Marzo> Where did the ones you sent me in Trello come from if they are not the originals?
[17:26:38] <Dominus> I‘m partially for this option
[17:26:51] <Dominus> Full download
[17:27:21] <Dominus> I extracted the still frames from the non-watermarked intro
[17:28:28] <Dominus> And through Gimp made flics out of those and hex edited those flics to have the right, or close, animation speed
[17:28:34] <Marzo> The issue with the full download (aside from the huge downloads) is the amount of copyrighted work we would be distributing more directly than we already are
[17:29:07] <Dominus> Yes, but since we are already offering those files...
[17:29:19] <Marzo> It is interesting that you made those flics in Gimp
[17:29:27] <Marzo> Because I can't open some of them in Gimp
[17:29:35] <Dominus> Hmm odd
[17:29:41] <Marzo> Oh, wait
[17:29:47] <Marzo> I am thinking of the original flics
[17:29:53] <Marzo> Yours open fine
[17:30:36] <Dominus> Ah yes, that’s why there are two versions. With or without the U7 additional header bits
[17:31:25] <Marzo> I mean: even removing those additional bytes, some of the original flics don't open on Gimp
[17:33:02] <Dominus> Hmm, I think they did for me
[17:34:00] <Dominus> But can’t verify as I‘m not home
[17:36:40] <Dominus> I also ran into the problem that everything but Apple‘s QuickTime was not able to jump to some other time frame in flics
[17:37:37] <Dominus> Eventually all leading back to ffmpeg but on the way I got too much grief about wanting to use flics that I gave up on it
[17:37:40] <Dominus> ;)
