[12:14:26] --> Nadir has joined #exult

[12:54:58] <TonyHoyt> Hello people.
[12:57:00] <Nadir> hi
[12:57:48] <TonyHoyt> Anything cool going on?
[12:58:35] * Nadir shakes his head
[12:58:41] <Nadir> It's awfully quiet here
[12:59:13] <Nadir> I've remade my Exult Studio mock-up with Glade and libglade.
[12:59:17] <TonyHoyt> *nods* Maybe it's early. *Shrugs* I haven't seen a lot of updates lately. Everyone find a game to play once again?
[12:59:25] <TonyHoyt> How is that going, Nadir? Looking good?
[13:00:41] <Nadir> It's very simple, and I haven't hooked up the event stuff yet. It's basically a proof of concept of dynamically loading the Glade source and attaching Jeff's custom widgets to it
[13:02:53] <TonyHoyt> *nods* That's cool. This is supposed to be the full editor your working on. A complete editor perhaps? This might be a whole project by itself I would assume.
[13:03:29] <Nadir> Indeed. At first it's going to be a glorified shape/palette/chunk/npc browser.
[13:04:22] <TonyHoyt> Just that alone I see being a hefty job. Sounds quite cool though! *grins*
[13:06:04] <Nadir> Linux only for now. But I guess a win32 build isn't going to be too hard.
[13:08:15] <TonyHoyt> Seems that with the tool set you are planning on using, a Win32 build is possable, if everything is as 'crossplatform' happy as they claim to be. Although intrinsics aside. So the Proof of concept work out fairly well. What did you get it to do so far? Shape view? I think that was one of hte gimp plugin's, am I correct?
[13:08:59] <-- Kirben has left IRC (SLeep)
[13:10:00] <Nadir> It just loads "shapes.vga" and displays a scrolling list of shapes. I don't quite like the way Jeff has implemented it so I'm going to redo it.
[13:12:16] <TonyHoyt> *nods* Okay. Sounds fairly cool. Neat start at least. Do you have a work plan others can look at to see what you vision the stuido turning into or is it all in your head still?
[13:12:51] <-- Nadir has left IRC (barnes.openprojects.net pohl.openprojects.net)
[13:13:13] --> Nadir has joined #exult
[13:13:23] <Nadir> planning, what's that ? :-)
[13:13:37] <Nadir> Jokes aside, I'm still "playing with the technology"...
[13:14:32] <TonyHoyt> *nods* Ya I know the feeling. We like to code, not to document. I swear it's in all our natures. *chuckles*
[13:54:50] <TonyHoyt> Later guys, I'll talk to you later.
[13:54:54] * TonyHoyt waves
[13:54:59] <-- TonyHoyt has left #Exult
[15:17:48] <-- Nadir has left IRC ([x]chat)
[15:33:22] --> wjp has joined #exult
[15:42:04] --> Nadir has joined #exult
[15:42:10] <Nadir> hi
[15:46:24] <wjp> hi
[15:52:20] <Nadir> not much activity around here...
[15:53:05] <wjp> no, not really :-(
[15:53:38] <Nadir> I'm writing a TODO for ExultStudio
[15:54:59] * wjp builds exult_studio
[15:55:31] <wjp> what directory do I need to run it from?
[15:55:39] <wjp> u7 dir?
[15:56:24] <Nadir> create a link to your static directory in mapedit
[15:57:19] <wjp> it seems to be a bit unstable :-(
[15:57:28] <Nadir> Click on a .vga file
[15:57:37] <wjp> fonts.vga -> segfault
[15:58:15] <Nadir> Try shapes.vga, faces.vga, gumps.vga
[15:58:34] <Nadir> It is only a mock up, really. Just to get ideas together
[16:00:19] --> Fingolfin has joined #exult
[16:00:28] <Nadir> hi max
[16:00:53] <Fingolfin> hi!
[16:00:57] <wjp> hi
[16:01:14] --- Fingolfin has changed the topic to: Exult, the opensource Ultima 7 engine
[16:01:22] <Fingolfin> Topic Retention is not working it seems
[16:01:53] <wjp> ChanServ must've been reset again
[16:02:14] <Fingolfin> nah
[16:02:17] <Fingolfin> it never worked for me
[16:02:27] <Fingolfin> e.g. in #arianne
[16:02:40] <Fingolfin> when all ppl leave it, it always clears the topic
[16:03:52] <Nadir> Task for wjp: exultbot should set the topic when it joins
[16:04:00] <Fingolfin> well
[16:04:06] <Fingolfin> only if no topic is set
[16:04:53] <Fingolfin> can we all leave the channel for a moment? Including exultbot....
[16:05:06] --- wjp has changed the topic to: Exult, the opensource Ultima 7 engine... blah blah
[16:05:14] <wjp> I suppose
[16:05:21] <wjp> exultbot: part
[16:05:22] <-- exultbot has left #exult
[16:07:04] --> exultbot has joined #exult
[16:07:17] <sir_Ahzz> show me the message your using to set the topic via chanserv
[16:07:18] <Fingolfin> sir_Ahzz: see the empty topic?
[16:07:32] <Fingolfin> sir?
[16:07:33] <Fingolfin> you mean
[16:07:43] <Fingolfin> /msg chanserver set #exult Bla bla
[16:07:47] <sir_Ahzz> ./msg chanserv set #exult topic this is the topic.
[16:07:52] <Fingolfin> /msg chanserver set topic #exult Bla bla
[16:07:56] <Fingolfin> erg
[16:07:56] <Fingolfin> yes
[16:08:00] <Fingolfin> I did type this from memory
[16:08:00] <Fingolfin> ;)
[16:08:19] <sir_Ahzz> try it again. and paste the same msg to the channel or to me.
[16:08:21] <Fingolfin> hm
[16:08:33] <Fingolfin> well
[16:08:33] <Fingolfin> but
[16:08:44] <sir_Ahzz> Syntax: SET channel TOPIC topic
[16:08:44] <Fingolfin> in how far is this related to topic retention?
[16:08:47] <wjp> the problem is that 'topic retention' doesn't seem to work
[16:08:57] <Fingolfin> heck
[16:08:58] <sir_Ahzz> this is absolutly required to retain a channel topic.
[16:09:01] <Fingolfin> why do I get access denied????
[16:09:04] <sir_Ahzz> yo must tell it to chanserv.
[16:09:06] <Fingolfin> wjp: you try it
[16:09:09] <Fingolfin> wjp: /msg chanserv set #exult topic test
[16:09:14] <sir_Ahzz> msgd nickserv your ident password?
[16:09:19] --- ChanServ has changed the topic to: test
[16:09:23] <Fingolfin> sir: yeah
[16:09:27] <sir_Ahzz> there.
[16:09:31] <sir_Ahzz> that topic is now saved.
[16:09:37] <sir_Ahzz> you can't change the channel topic directly.
[16:09:42] --- wjp has changed the topic to: testing again
[16:09:46] <sir_Ahzz> you have to go through chanserv to get it to stick.
[16:09:50] <wjp> ah, ok
[16:10:01] <Fingolfin> so let us test again..
[16:10:05] <Fingolfin> all go to #exult2 ;)
[16:10:08] <wjp> exultbot: part

[18:35:32] <Fingolfin> lo
[18:36:30] --- ChanServ has changed the topic to: Exult, the open source Ultima 7 and U7 part 2 engine
[18:39:21] <Fingolfin> hu
[18:39:24] <Fingolfin> who did that?
[18:39:29] <Fingolfin> or is it suddenly working?
[18:39:39] <wjp> nah, that was just me :-(
[18:39:45] <Fingolfin> aye
[18:47:53] --- Fingolfin is now known as Fingolfin|bzsy
[18:48:09] --- Fingolfin|bzsy is now known as Fingolfin|busy
[18:58:06] <matt0> I wonder why more of the exult team doesn't come here and idle ...
[19:00:19] <Fingolfin|busy> well
[19:00:29] <Fingolfin|busy> because they have their machines shut down during night? ;)
[19:00:50] <Fingolfin|busy> and/or are simply not online all the time
[19:00:54] <Fingolfin|busy> it is not free for everyone!
[19:00:55] <matt0> yeah but Jeff is in the US isn't he?
[19:01:01] <matt0> it's noon right now here
[19:01:06] <matt0> (at least in my areahehe)
[19:37:13] <wjp> well, that was my homework
[20:10:18] <-- Fingolfin|busy has left IRC (42)
[20:31:28] --- ChanServ has changed the topic to: Exult, the open source Ultima 7 and U7 part 2 engine
[20:34:09] <wjp> matt0, are you here?
[20:34:58] --> TonyHoyt has joined #Exult
[20:35:05] <TonyHoyt> Hello people.
[20:35:09] <TonyHoyt> ?log
[20:35:09] <exultbot> Logs are available at http://www.math.leidenuniv.nl/~wpalenst/exultlog.php3
[20:35:09] <wjp> hi Tony
[20:35:21] <wjp> nothing interesting in there, I'm afraid :-)
[20:35:22] <TonyHoyt> What's the topic of today, Exult Studio?
[20:35:35] <TonyHoyt> Hmph. Oh well. Seems that way on the net all around.
[20:35:47] <wjp> mainly some discussion about why Chanserv doesn't work
[20:36:03] <wjp> but I think exultbot was away most of the time during that topic :-)
[20:36:07] <TonyHoyt> *chuckles* Wow, truely inspireing conversation.
[20:37:29] <wjp> and I've done some 'elliptic curves' homework... and well, that's about it :-)
[20:38:06] <TonyHoyt> Dosn't matter. Oh well. Guess I could try to strum up some conversation. Well the weather looks fine today.. no no... that won't work. How them Giants... no sports won't work.... Uh..... What ya doing? Elliptic Curves? That sounds familure. what are you trying to do?
[20:39:04] <wjp> I just finished it a while ago, so not much atm :-)
[20:39:22] <wjp> (but I was finding rational points on curves a while ago :-) )
[20:40:12] * wjp likes algebra
[20:41:25] <wjp> brb, getting some tea
[20:41:27] <TonyHoyt> Algebra is cool. Trig, Calc, and anything above Algebra is insane and only for madmen.
[20:43:29] <wjp> b
[20:43:32] <TonyHoyt> wb
[20:45:24] <TonyHoyt> I remember haveing fun finding the area under a curve line... or at least it made an impression. Not enough of an impression to remember the forumla but an impression never the less.
[20:45:50] <wjp> that's calculus :-)
[20:46:36] <TonyHoyt> Ya ya, it is. But that's one of the few things I actually though was cool about Calc. *Shrugs*
[20:46:42] <wjp> :-)
[20:46:51] <TonyHoyt> It was actually something I wanted to know. I don't know why but I did.
[20:47:20] <TonyHoyt> So what else are you up to Wjp. Add any cheat codes lately?
[20:47:22] <wjp> it's a really fundamental thing. (integrals)
[20:47:45] <wjp> no, no cheat codes :-)
[20:47:45] <TonyHoyt> ya but that doesn't mean ya can make me remember them.
[20:48:01] <wjp> Ryan is working on some cheats atm
[20:48:06] <TonyHoyt> Ahhh cool cool.
[20:48:25] <TonyHoyt> How about SI support? That still in the works?
[20:48:32] <wjp> yup
[20:48:45] <wjp> haven't really tried it yet, though
[20:49:21] <TonyHoyt> What is this app that let's you run U7 with windows though, that you guys use to help check your work?
[20:49:56] <wjp> it emulates the U7 memory manager using a VxD
[20:50:27] <wjp> which is a really slow process, but which just happens to make U7 run at the right speed with current CPUs :-)
[20:50:29] <TonyHoyt> Is there a url to it? I want to check it out. (Iching to play u7:p2.>>
[20:50:39] <wjp> there's a link on the exult links page
[20:50:45] <wjp> "Ultima 7 in windows" or something
[20:50:47] <TonyHoyt> Hmm I'll check then.
[20:54:04] <TonyHoyt> There sure are a lot of Ultima conversion projects in the works. 5, 1, 9... Jeeze.
[20:54:15] <wjp> :-)
[20:54:35] <wjp> hmmm... maybe I should add my "fix U2's speed" patch to the links :-)
[20:55:37] <TonyHoyt> Why not. Might as well try to gain links to some Ultima update. One for each ultima I say! *chuckles* Now a Ultima Underworld update would be cool! Specialy with lighting and 3d modles.
[20:56:07] <wjp> I think someone already did a OpenGL UW1 world viewer
[20:56:22] <TonyHoyt> Ya but that's just a world viewer. Nice start though!
[20:57:57] <wjp> there was an article about Ultima remakes on desslock.gamespot.com a while back. Exult wasn't even in it, though :-(
[20:59:50] <TonyHoyt> Ahh, Well you guys have a hot product now. I would expect a few people would be interesting in seeing this. Although the editor will get you the bigest crowd.
[21:02:57] <TonyHoyt> Although it would be slick if you guys could support say, ulimitied story buildings and hilly turrain, then get sick with things like line of site shadeing.
[21:03:13] <wjp> hehe :-)
[21:04:11] <TonyHoyt> But that's crazy talk and we know it.
[21:04:35] <TonyHoyt> Then again a 5 story castle that's identical to the one in Ultima 5 would be awsome. for kicks of course.
[21:05:50] <wjp> multiple floors (and underground levels) should be doable
[21:07:13] <TonyHoyt> Doesn't U7 have a low high limit though. like 128 pixels or something. Or have you guys already allowed that to be expanded some.
[21:10:14] <wjp> U7 allows heights of 0-15. (4 bits). We could expand this to a full signed integer (>= 32 bits). Only problem would be that compatibility with U7 static/gamedat would be broken
[21:12:08] <TonyHoyt> Ah, oh. Umm. That's not good. Grr. Well maybe for the map editor when you allow player made maps you can muck with the file format some and have the system run in thee modes, BG support, SI Support and User Support. That way you can add tons of extra features in user support mode but not break the other two?
[21:12:28] <wjp> that's what I was thinking too
[21:14:36] <TonyHoyt> But first, SI Support! *chuckles* That... or Super cool features for Exult Studio. Again I'm just bitching about adding features. *Shrugs*.
[21:23:49] <TonyHoyt> time to head out. night guys
