[11:30:44] --> Dominus has joined #exult
[11:30:44] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to Dominus
[13:30:18] --> Marzo has joined #exult
[13:55:57] <wjp> I wonder how many of the SI engine complaints Spoony has in his review are actually Exult bugs...
[14:00:58] <Dominus> :)
[14:01:10] <Dominus> mostly it's original
[14:01:25] <wjp> but didn't we allow alternate fonts?
[14:01:34] <Dominus> the combat sucked always and the font, too
[14:01:41] <wjp> including the black backdrop he explicitly mentions
[14:01:50] <Dominus> we allow alternate fonts but no one made one :)
[14:02:29] <Dominus> we made a coloured transparent background for discussions, though
[14:03:15] <Dominus> unfortunately we don't have the easy font selection pentagram has
[14:04:50] <Marzo> An interesting article to keep in mind for the future of Exult: http://imgur.com/a/gRXPJ
[14:05:16] <Marzo> (while the article is in the context of video games, I see no reason why it wouldn't work for U7/SI)
[14:05:27] <Marzo> It is about vector scaling of pixel art
[14:05:29] <Dominus> marzo: http://exult.sourceforge.net/forum/read.php?f=1&i=357400&t=357400 "LoveEternal Flame of" versus "Eternal Flame of Love" in keyring mod
[14:06:46] <Dominus> marzo, about that scaler, there is already a discussion about this on the forum and I linked to it in your "Ultima 7 HD" thread
[14:07:32] <Dominus> running a converter over the graphics and seeing what u7 would look like might be interesting :)
[14:07:42] <Marzo> So there is
[14:07:58] <Marzo> (haven't been in the Phorum in a while)
[14:09:28] <Marzo> I know a guy that is already talking to the article authors (and found a few errors in their source code...) and is working on a version for open source video game emulators; I may be able to adapt his code once he has finished
[14:09:58] <Dominus> sounds great.
[14:10:44] <Marzo> I have no idea how fast or slow it will be; it is possible that with the correct optimizations, and on a powerful enough computer, it will be real-time
[14:11:04] <Marzo> If not, we can always try to pre-scale the graphics and see how good/bad it looks
[14:11:12] <wjp> did anybody already try it on U7 graphics?
[14:11:20] <Marzo> Not that I know of
[14:11:24] <wjp> how good it works really depends heavily on the style of the graphics
[14:18:25] <Getty> thats really awesome algo there
[14:18:34] <Getty> yeah you must bring this into exult
[14:18:35] <Getty> definitly
[14:22:18] <Dominus> and.. OH NOES... DNF is beating us to a final!!!!
[14:24:17] <Dominus> bah, baby feeding time...
[14:28:14] <Marzo> Hrm. Someone added a bug in the usecode machine... that is what is causing that keyring bug
[14:34:51] <wjp> that hasn't been touched in some time, has it?
[14:35:26] <Marzo> I don't know
[14:35:33] <Marzo> Not by me, at least
[14:35:55] <Marzo> (or maybe I am wrong about what the bug report meant; will see after I compile Exult/ES)
[14:48:32] <Getty> Marzo: why do you think of "realtime" at all? cant that all be precompiled in some cache?
[14:48:58] <Marzo> It might, it the ground tiles look OK when prescaled
[14:49:16] <Getty> oh ground tiles... right.....
[14:49:22] <Getty> i dont think they work with that concept really
[14:49:27] <Getty> not as single parts, right....
[14:49:36] <Marzo> I thought of realtime because a guy I know that works on console emulators thinks he might be able to do it
[14:49:39] <Getty> they must get rendered while the player runs over it, to "combine" the tiles
[14:50:03] <Marzo> (and since most older consoles work at 60fps, it would be easy to adapt to Exult's/U7's 10 fps)
[14:50:09] <Getty> like 4 tiles together must be vectorized as 4 tiles together
[15:18:21] <Marzo> And now to find my Ultima Collection CD to rebuild my Exult dev system...
[15:18:42] --> ashp has joined #exult
[15:19:32] <Dominus> if you need help... :)
[15:25:13] <Marzo> I actually know exactly where it is, but I won't be able to get it until tomorrow
[15:31:48] * Dominus votes that all exult devs HAVE to have the u7 games readily availlable on their dropbox accounts :)
[15:39:25] * wjp doesn't do dropbox
[15:49:17] <ashp> i actually paid up for dropbox
[15:49:24] <ashp> and i still don't use more than the 2G they give you for free
[15:49:26] <ashp> so i don't know why :/
[15:50:06] <wjp> it's kind of crazy there are still no digital editions of the Ultima Collection available
[15:50:21] <ashp> yeah seriously, get that stuff up on steam
[15:50:24] <ashp> and i would buy it on the spot
[15:50:33] <ashp> even the ones i hate like u5 :)
[15:51:20] <wjp> the prices on ebay are becoming rather unreasonable
[15:51:28] <wjp> maybe I should sell a few of my duplicate copies :-)
[15:52:02] <ashp> wish i hadn't been a useless kid and had kept all my copies in good condition
[15:52:11] <Dominus> yes, they (EA, Bioware/mythic) should get their act together and offer the Ultimas digitally
[15:52:36] <ashp> we have I-IV as pirated copies on the apple //e but VI onwards I would always get for birthdays or christmas
[16:21:50] <Dominus> I still hope someone makes a good replacement font for Exult :)
