[06:47:55] --- Darke|afk is now known as Darke
[07:31:12] <Darke> Scary. GCC3.2 is quite a spritely compiler. I wonder if it includes pre-compiled headers. That might explain the speed.
[10:12:39] <Kirben> patches section is getting a bit old, can any of those be closed ?
[10:17:22] <Darke> Hmm... I think most of them would be really out of date now, and require quite a bit of hacking to apply.
[10:18:28] <Darke> Perhaps remove the 'exult assumes char is signed' patch, and add a bug with that title and summary.
[10:21:29] <Darke> The 'debuan/* update' patch looks like it can be removed. Since it's apparently been superceeded by an 'offical' package system within the debian project.
[10:22:16] <Darke> I'm not sure about the 'mapedit/Makefile.am - gimp plugin install' patch, I think that may have been superceeded by code changes in exult itself, BIBCW.
[10:31:06] <Kirben> What about just moving 'exult assumes char is signed' to bugs section ?
[10:31:42] <Darke> That works. *grin*
[10:37:09] --> Kirben2 has joined #exult
[10:39:17] <-- Kirben has left IRC (Read error: 104 (Connection reset by peer))
[10:48:52] --> Nadir has joined #exult
[10:48:52] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to Nadir
[10:49:36] <Nadir> hi
[10:49:51] * Darke bows. Greetings.
[10:50:34] <Nadir> Darke: gcc 3.2 does NOT have PCH
[10:53:32] <Darke> Thanks. I wonder if they'll ever get around to adding it. *grin*
[10:53:46] <Nadir> I'm scanning the mailing list
[10:54:04] <Nadir> gcc 3.2 should feel a little faster since the preprocessor and parser are faster
[10:56:27] <Darke> *nod* I'm just rebuilding my gentoo system, which defaults to the latest gcc3.2 as it's primary compiler. I was just noticing it blaze through compiling all the common system utilities, much faster then I remembered it.

[12:16:34] <Colourless> hi
[12:16:36] <Darke> Hi Colourless!
[12:17:28] <Nadir> hi
[12:26:51] <Nadir> Exult is setting the current palette too soon after the plasma screen
[12:27:34] <Nadir> I see the plasma turn from red/blue to the standard palette just before fading to black and the world appearing
[12:30:37] <Colourless> yes, that is known :-)
[12:32:38] <Colourless> and so far, none of us has cared much about the problem
[12:47:49] <Nadir> Colourless: btw, good post on the longhorn thread
[12:48:09] <Colourless> :-)
[12:49:04] <Colourless> just pointing out the obvious
[13:02:46] <Nadir> to some of our users obvious is not enough :)

[18:34:23] --- Corvus is now known as Suvroc
[19:00:30] --> GNUChild has joined #exult
[19:00:36] <GNUChild> Hello
[19:00:43] <Colourless> hi
[19:00:54] <Suvroc> hi
[19:01:21] <GNUChild> How can i enable sound under GNU/Linux in ultima7? And how do i apply the extra soundpackage provided by exult team?
[19:01:55] <GNUChild> For linux there's almost no docu just a few sentence :-)
[19:02:55] <GNUChild> and great work, u7/blackgate runs wonderfull with exult.
[19:03:38] <wjp> for the sfx packs: just put the .flx files anywhere (jmsfx.flx, jmsisfx.flx, or whichever packs you picked)
[19:04:08] <wjp> and add the path to them (including the filename) in ~/.exult.cfg in the config/disk/game/blackgate/waves key
[19:04:22] <wjp> (and in config/disk/game/serpentisle/waves for SI0
[19:04:26] <wjp> s/0/)/
[19:24:35] <GNUChild> there's no entry named ~/waves in the config
[19:25:32] <wjp> hm, it's possible that it isn't created automatically
[19:25:52] <wjp> it should be under the blackgate and serpentisle keys
[19:26:15] <GNUChild> also when i dont start exult in the dir where i have ultima installed it says i 'couldnt find' check config file for correct path
[19:26:38] <wjp> that's the 'path' key under blackgate and serpentisle
[19:26:51] <wjp> it defaults to '.', but you can change it to whatever directory you installed the games to
[19:33:45] <GNUChild> works now, but the sound icons after startup are canceled
[19:33:59] <GNUChild> have 2.4 kernel with soundblaster live maybe thats why?:)
[19:39:37] <GNUChild> the extra sound package works but its output is little raspy
[19:46:50] <wjp> sound icons usually mean that the sfx packs weren't found
[19:46:58] <wjp> you might want to check the console output
[19:48:45] <wjp> 2.4 with soundblaster should work
[19:48:54] <wjp> I think I have that combo too
[19:49:09] * wjp should look up which sound card he really has sometime :-)
[20:00:58] <GNUChild> It works, but scratchy
[20:01:53] <wjp> is the music or are the sfx scratchy?
[20:02:29] <GNUChild> both the music starts playing short then it stops and scratchy sound output, opening doors gives almost no sound beside scratch
[20:02:49] <GNUChild> Damn... i've lost the cloth map long years before... what can i do ?:)
[20:03:02] <GNUChild> I owned Ultima Collection but there's no such map..
[20:03:15] <Colourless> the manual has the answers
[20:03:23] <GNUChild> The clothmap is from u6 or?
[20:04:14] <GNUChild> i dont have the manual anymore..
[20:04:37] <GNUChild> maybe somewhere in celler :)
[20:06:31] <wjp> there should be a pdf on the cd
[20:18:18] <GNUChild> there are only .doc files which do not write anything about the coords
[20:18:44] <Colourless> yeah, no coords in the manuals on the cd
[20:21:04] <GNUChild> I dont know to who i lost my map and my metal sign, maybe i buy it from ebay again
[20:32:52] <GNUChild> Spark dies too fast :-)
[20:46:22] <wjp> time for me to go
[20:46:23] <wjp> g'night
[20:46:25] <Colourless> cya
[20:46:31] <Suvroc> good night
[20:46:34] <GNUChild> gn8
[20:46:42] <wjp> (scary how this is the x'th night in a row that I'm going to bed before Colourless :-) )
[20:46:48] <Darke|afk> Night. *grin*
[20:46:54] <wjp> morning :-)
[20:46:58] <-- wjp has left IRC ("Zzzz...")
