[10:51:13] <wjp> hi
[10:51:22] <Darke> Greetings.
[10:53:20] <wjp> Kirben: could you remove ucdump.exe from the tools snapshots?
[10:53:33] <wjp> we actually got a bugreport about it last week :-)
[10:54:16] <Kirben> Why remove it ?
[10:54:26] <wjp> so to prevent that from happening again we probably shouldn't build and package it anymore
[10:54:30] <wjp> it hasn't been updated in years
[10:55:10] <Kirben> Sounds like some people are still using it though.
[10:56:58] <wjp> they shouldn't be :-)
[10:57:10] <Darke> Isn't it's use duplicated with wuc, or something?
[10:57:18] <wjp> wud and ucxt
[10:57:36] <Kirben> ok will remove it
[10:57:46] <wjp> thanks :-)
[11:10:21] * wjp looks at ML and is shocked. Somebody is doing research on us! :-)

[16:56:06] <wjp> Colourless: you fixed some bugs in the scummvm midi code, right?
[16:56:23] * wjp is listening to some particularly horrible sounding music in scummvm right now
[16:56:41] <Colourless> i fixed some bugs in the hacked up version of the scummvm midi code that i've got in exult
[16:57:38] <wjp> MIDI sub-command 0xB0 (Control Change) case 76 not handled in MIDIEMU driver. <-- any of them to do with this?
[16:57:46] <Colourless> no
[16:58:42] <Colourless> i don't know if the problems I found would be a particular problem from scummvm though. They were mostly just shown by the way I was doing things in exult. it's hard to say. plus one of them may require a fairly substantial change to the way scummvm works (it's timing related)
[16:59:21] <wjp> hm, the music here sounds like it's playing a couple of times too fast
[16:59:46] <wjp> are there any docs where I can look that missing command up?
[17:00:30] <Colourless> from memory 76 sounds like it could be chorus depth, or similar. something you don't need to worry about :-)
[17:00:33] <Colourless> really, you don't
[17:00:54] <wjp> chorus depth is 0x5D according to the scummvm code
[17:01:25] <Colourless> ok, lets see
[17:02:12] <Colourless> that is 76 hex or dec?
[17:02:21] <wjp> hm... good question
[17:02:28] <wjp> %02X, so hex
[17:03:31] <Colourless> then 76 would seem to be 'undefined'
[17:04:23] <wjp> hm, weird
[17:04:26] <wjp> ah well
[17:04:43] * wjp mutes the music again
[17:05:12] <Colourless> i did notice one problem, which i don't know if it effects scummvm. the opl synth produces mono output, but if stereo is expected things will sound wrong
[17:05:47] <wjp> hm, that would cause double speed, yes
[17:06:22] <Colourless> it would 'seem' like it causes double speed, but in actual fact, it wouldn't (as far as I can tell)
[17:07:20] <Colourless> there is a timing issue that would stop it from actually playing twice as fast as it should
[17:07:55] <Colourless> it would play back at normal speed, but be 2x the correct pitch
[17:21:04] * wjp is trying to figure out the midi playing system :-)
[17:21:14] <wjp> but it's time for dinner first; I'll bbl
[17:49:23] <wjp> b
[17:49:32] <Colourless> wb
[17:50:38] <wjp> heh, this is kind of funny... I'm looking at the stats of that slashdotted page
[17:51:15] <wjp> >80% of the hits came from slashdot, but >90% of the hits was using windows
[17:52:13] <wjp> looks like most of the people on /. are still using windows (even though they probably wouldn't admit it there ;-) )
[17:52:53] <Colourless> gee, like you couldn't have guessed it :-)
[17:53:02] <wjp> heh, true :-)
[17:53:13] <Colourless> perhaps you should make a page and send submit it to /. as a news story :-)
[17:53:18] <wjp> lol
[17:53:39] <wjp> I wonder what the resulting conversation would look like :-)
[17:54:24] <Colourless> i really couldn't guess it
[17:54:39] <wjp> hm, scummvm is really forking like crazy... 66 processes after running it for 3 hours

[20:06:38] <wjp> someone rebooted it
[20:06:41] <wjp> somehow
[20:08:16] <wjp> grrrr... not him again
[20:08:59] <wjp> the same person that managed to reboot every single computer in that room one night tried to log in right after it rebooted
[20:09:20] * wjp is tempted to lock his account
[20:10:02] <Colourless> sounds annoyinh
[20:11:36] <wjp> right, and he tried to log in a minute before it rebooted too
[20:11:44] <wjp> sounds like the proverbial 'smoking gun' :-)
[20:12:44] <Colourless> :-)
[20:16:27] * wjp writes a highly annoyed email to him
[20:16:49] <Colourless> how does one manage to reboot every system in a room
[20:16:54] <wjp> not a clue
[20:17:11] <wjp> I'm guessing he found it strange that he couldn't login, and rebooted to "fix" the problem
[20:17:46] <wjp> (note that he shouldn't be able to login on this particular machine; it isn't for 'public' use)
[20:18:10] <Colourless> well, why would he be trying?
[20:19:27] <wjp> because he's a) clueless b) thinking nobody would catch him on a saturday night?
[20:19:55] <Colourless> hmm
[20:20:43] <wjp> hm, it _could_ also be that he's brought some friends along and they rebooted it
[20:20:58] <wjp> I've seen him bring other people into the building on weekends before
[20:20:58] <Colourless> hmm.
[20:21:54] <wjp> hm, this machine has several processes hanging on network access somehow
[20:22:01] <wjp> it kind of needs a reboot, methinks
[20:22:10] <wjp> (this == the machine he's logged into now)
[20:22:12] <wjp> *evil grin* :-)
[20:23:21] <wjp> *sigh*.. sometimes I wish I was actually enough of a BOFH to actually do it, too :-)
[20:28:57] <wjp> "sorry i did not know that. I just was trying to login in the system. But i could not."
[20:32:08] <Colourless> :-)
[20:32:35] <wjp> (that was his actual reply, btw)
[20:33:06] <Colourless> did you ask why he was trying to login to that system?
[20:33:20] <wjp> yes
[20:33:36] <wjp> apparently he was trying to use the scanner in that room
[20:33:42] <wjp> ...which is connected to another machine there
[20:34:10] <wjp> I guess the big scsi cable running from the scanner to that machine wasn't enough of a clue :-)
[20:34:30] <Colourless> :-)
[20:34:43] <wjp> I can imagine this happening once, I mean mistakes happen
[20:34:45] <wjp> but _twice_?
[20:35:13] <wjp> anyway, I'll shut up now :-)
