[10:01:19] <Darke> Hi.
[10:05:27] <Fingolfin> hi
[10:19:07] <Kirben> hmm did all Ultima 8 CDs have multiple langauges ?
[10:19:33] <Kirben> just noticed mine has english, french and german.
[10:20:28] <Darke> I think the original releases did. The UC collection appears to only have english on it though.
[10:33:08] * Darke notes that thankfully, none of them have that really hacked spanish u8 on the cds, so we won't 'really' have to support that with pentagram. Though he expects someone will want us too. *grin*
[10:33:20] <Fingolfin> I don't have a collector's CD, just a "normal" one I think, but mine has eng/fre/ger as well
[10:34:09] <Fingolfin> jmmm
[10:34:25] <Fingolfin> interesting
[10:34:33] * Darke earperks.
[10:34:36] <Fingolfin> somebody sent me a virus/trojan mail with sender: wjpalenstijn <wjpalenstijn@users.sourceforge.net>
[10:35:00] <Fingolfin> damn, I wonder why for the last 14 days I suddenly get tons of spam - I am not aware of "doing" anything to give my email, at least not more than I usually do
[10:35:29] <Darke> I got one that looks like a virus/trogan that has a From: exult-general@lists.sourceforge.net *grin*

[14:42:04] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to wjp
[14:42:56] <Darke> Welcome back.
[14:43:00] <wjp> thx
[14:46:16] <-- Kirben has left IRC ("System Meltdown")
[16:10:31] <Colourless> omg, i think i 'may' have just figured out what my major sorting problem in pentagram was...
[16:10:44] * Darke earperks.
[16:10:54] * wjp joins Darke
[16:10:56] <Colourless> it's quite simple really
[16:11:45] <Colourless> when getting the box size from the typeinfo, x and y need to be multiplied by 32, and z by 8. I was multipling all of them by 8
[16:12:02] <wjp> hm, I see how that would cause problems, yes
[16:12:09] <Colourless> big problems
[16:12:18] * Darke nodnodnods. Just a few problems. *grin*
[16:12:44] <Colourless> i added in code so i could check indivual comparisons, trying to find why things were screwing up
[16:13:05] <Colourless> i then noticed that some obvious comparisons were failing.... and then i noticed the bounding box sizes were not correct
[16:19:27] <Colourless> here is a shot of where i first noticed the strange behaviour. red box shows where, red numbers are the order that was occuring, and green numbers is what is the correct order
[16:19:28] <Colourless> http://www.users.on.net/triforce/sorting.png
[16:24:15] * Darke looks and squints. Cool. He'd never have noticed that.
[16:25:26] <Colourless> it's kind of obvious when you can limit the number of objects being shown :-)
[16:26:17] * Darke grins.
[16:26:41] <Colourless> by using the [ and ] keys i can one by one add an extra object (after sorting) to see exactly how the display list was sorted. When a shape gets incorrect drawn over, you notice it :-)
[16:27:27] <Colourless> that image probably shows less than half of the objects that are actually in the scene
[16:29:58] * Darke can't tell. *grin* Although it does look a little sparse...
[16:30:11] --- wjp is now known as wjp|dinner
[16:48:11] --> Fingolfin has joined #exult
[16:48:29] <Fingolfin> hola
[16:48:31] --- wjp|dinner is now known as wjp|away
[16:48:32] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to Fingolfin
[16:48:32] <wjp|away> hi
[16:48:39] <Colourless> hi
[16:59:56] <Colourless> this doesn't work, can't work, will never work :-)
[17:00:02] <Colourless> sorting objects like this is flawed
[17:00:09] <Colourless> :-)
[17:01:47] <Colourless> the compare function works, but the sort algorithm itself is where the problem is
[17:03:02] <Colourless> since comparing is being done in three dimentions at the same time, things begin to fall down when you have three objects that are each infront of one of the other objects in 1 direction
[17:03:54] <Colourless> example comming soon
[17:04:08] <Fingolfin> hehe
[17:14:50] <Colourless> these pictures show a story. View them in order:
[17:14:50] <Colourless> http://www.users.on.net/triforce/error1.png
[17:14:50] <Colourless> http://www.users.on.net/triforce/error2.png
[17:14:50] <Colourless> http://www.users.on.net/triforce/error3.png
[17:16:01] <Colourless> also, the 2 candles will eventually be drawn over by the wall behind them due to the same logic error
[17:19:51] <Colourless> i'm thinking that using a list is the wrong way to do things.... a tree would be more suitable.... of course getting a tree to work properly is another matter all together
[17:29:52] <Fingolfin> hm, I see your point
[17:29:59] <Fingolfin> hehe
[17:31:12] <Colourless> exult uses a tree
[17:35:44] <Colourless> of course i really don't understand quite how exult does it. :-)
[17:38:08] <Colourless> i am guessing that a similar thing will need to be done in pentagram too
[17:38:26] <Colourless> actually, not just guessing, i am already convinced that we will need to :-)
[17:40:54] <Darke> Well get cracking then. *grin* No pressure mind you... *innocentlook*
[17:41:26] <Colourless> :-)
[17:42:14] * Darke summons a hoard of users to ask Colourless, "Can we play pentagram yet?" over and over and over again.
[17:42:38] * Colourless casts invisibility
[17:43:05] * Darke thinks that was probably a bad thing, since they'll pester him next to get the usecode machine 'working', once Colourless's done. *grin*
[17:43:47] <Fingolfin> hehe
[17:46:02] <Colourless> object sorting can wait for now. It requires a reasonbly substantial change to the way the display list is handled.
[17:46:15] <Colourless> i have other things i would prefer to do first
[17:46:52] * Darke casts a few fire fields around himself, just in case Colourless decides to change his mind.
[17:48:41] <Colourless> :-)
[17:49:46] * Darke sets up a deck chair in the middle of them and picks up a laptop and starts tapping away. Basking in the warm glow of his protective firewall.
[17:51:31] <Colourless> you know, that pun was really really bad
[17:51:57] * Darke looks innocent.
[18:03:12] * Darke stretches out on the chair and yawns. All this heat is making him sleepy. "Night all!"
