[04:02:28] <-- Kirben has left IRC ("System Meltdown")
[04:18:27] <servus> Hmm, on the main menu, background objects are rendered, but don't seem to be part of the menu schema... I'm correct in thinking that they are just grossly put in before handle_events() is called for the menu, right? :)

[05:40:11] <servus> OK! Icky icky hack implemented! When MenuList::handle_events is called, it's passed an enum of the menu type, and then all the appropriate static menu elements are now rendered in there.

[09:13:08] <Baastuul> Hallo.
[09:13:25] <Fl00der> hi
[09:18:32] <Baastuul> Wjp: Happy Leiden Day/Relief of Leiden Day... hehe :P
[09:28:03] <-- Baastuul has left IRC ("http://atherton.digital-focus.us/")
[10:42:58] <servus> http://4.60.183.93/images/screenshots/Exult3D-18.jpg translucency :-D
[10:45:37] <sbx> http://4.60.183.93/images/screenshots/Exult3D-17.jpg
[10:46:43] <servus> Hmm
[10:46:54] <servus> I don't want to slashdot my server by posting images on a thread.
[10:47:20] <servus> I'm not a member of Exult so I can't upload to their directories... Think yuv would mind if I used the Nuvie directory? :)
[10:48:42] * sbx shrugs.
[11:22:33] --> Colourless has joined #Exult
[11:22:41] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to Colourless
[11:35:26] <Colourless> servus: transparancies are 'wrong'
[11:35:46] <Colourless> the colour in the palette does not match the colour that they are supposed to look like
[11:37:49] <servus> I see that now, Colourless. I made everything gray.
[11:37:59] <servus> Looks fine.
[11:38:25] <servus> Don't suppose you can delete posts in Exult Phorum? :)
[11:38:40] <servus> Ah, thanks.
[11:39:37] <Colourless> that better?
[11:43:38] <servus> Thanks. Is there anywhere with a lot of glass in Serpent Isle?
[11:44:22] <sbx> The artisan's shop in Monitor has a glass room
[11:46:35] <Colourless> there are a few really glassy places in si
[11:46:57] <Colourless> not many though
[11:47:20] <servus> I see that Colourless added a smilie to my post :-p
[11:47:51] <Colourless> i just copied everything form the post that worked and pasted it into the first one
[11:48:26] <sbx> Fawn would be good because it has levels
[11:49:32] <sbx> it's all glossy and white, worthy of first-person mode (if there were such a thing)
[11:49:50] <servus> I have a few good fawn photos
[11:50:16] <servus> There will be a first-person once I figure out where the darn mouse events are processed in the game window :)
[11:51:44] <servus> Sleeping Bull is the most impressive SI building, though.
[11:52:39] <sbx> I think you're right
[11:53:28] <sbx> I would have liked to seen Moonshade in its original design. It should have been very glassy.
[12:06:04] <sbx> servus: what will the controls in first-person be like?
[12:08:17] <servus> It'd probably just be a gimmick.
[12:08:27] <servus> Go into first person and look around, then go back to third person.
[12:22:31] <sbx> so, moving the mouse would move the camera ?
[12:30:24] <sbx> That sounds like a good idea to me.
[12:34:49] <servus> I already have a mouse-driven camera arcball programmed. I just need to hook it into the mouse in Exult
[12:35:17] --> Kabalx has joined #exult
[12:35:37] <servus> Mmm, Eggrolls and jalapenos
[12:35:38] <sbx> Do you mind if I post screenshot links in your topic?
[12:35:47] <sbx> hi Kabalx
[12:35:48] <servus> Go ahead
[12:35:54] <sbx> ok
[12:36:00] <Kabalx> heya sbx
[12:36:10] <servus> Hello.
[12:36:17] <Kabalx> hi servus
[13:02:19] <sbx> servus: ok done
[13:02:25] <sbx> posted I mean
[13:05:35] <servus> Heh, cool :-)
[13:05:57] <servus> I think you're the only one to run my binary though
[13:06:20] <servus> I don't think the original data on mountains is salvageable :-(
[13:06:26] <servus> Gonna have to make those from scratch, at least.
[13:06:50] <servus> On the guardian's bigass chair, you can see the depth masking issues around the candles. Those should be fixed.
[13:07:40] <sbx> oh I see
[13:07:40] <sbx> I redid a couple of them after you fixed that
[13:07:57] <sbx> What do you mean by salvageable?
[13:08:03] <sbx> Can't you hack it to fit?
[13:09:10] <servus> Hey hey, the Kill Wrathy shadow is translucent now :-)
[13:09:43] <servus> I don't think so, sbx, unless I locked the camera into an angle and did a billboard anyway on the mountains... They are designed to be aligned with each other pixel-perfect... I'm going to have to create some sort of 3D model.
[13:10:27] <servus> Check out the Kill Wrathy with the new gray-shadows binary :-)
[13:18:04] <sbx> Ah it's a lot better now.
[13:18:24] <sbx> It looks like a shadow.
[13:18:25] <sbx> And you can see the ground still.
[13:18:35] <servus> The Guardian's pop-up face is no longer red, but gray now. That's wrong but there's nothing I can do about it :-(
[13:18:44] <servus> Actually there is
[13:18:47] <servus> Hmm.
[13:18:56] <servus> I'd have to patch the palette.
[13:19:21] <servus> Then go back to use palette colours + 50% alpha for translucency.
[13:34:55] <Colourless> in pentagram i have 2 different palettes. 1 for normal. 1 for transshapes
[13:45:04] <servus> I don't use palettes, though.
[13:46:10] <servus> I'm just going to do it like I had before, get the colour of the trans piece from the palette, and just patch the palette file so that it has correct-looking RGBs for those palette indices.
[13:53:01] <servus> Hmm, I need to patch my palettes.flx anyway to use a correct one for the menu...
[13:56:41] <sbx> Can you mess the palette to do 3D shadow effects?
[13:56:55] <sbx> For example the stone pillars all have a shadow on the same side.
[13:57:36] <sbx> And you "move" the shadow by rotating the colors of the shape as it is drawn.
[14:07:16] <servus> Probably not
[14:07:37] <servus> If you wanted real shadows, you'd probably have to do it the 'real' way (no palette hacks:)
[14:11:33] <servus> Trying to figure out how to do palette loading/editing in GIMP 2...
[14:15:19] <servus> Hmm, which palette # is the credit palette?
[14:24:50] <-- Kirben has left IRC ("System Meltdown")
[15:01:26] <Colourless> that doesn't work though servus, because some of the shapes get their colour from those transparent colour
[15:01:40] <Colourless> but display as opaque
[15:02:09] <servus> I got day/nighttime working, and fixed the menu colours by deleting someone's ugly GL palette hack and replacing it with proper code
[15:02:42] <servus> Hmm, Colourless, even though I'm checking for an xforms?
[15:03:56] <servus> though I don't think I should use day/night palettes for 3D...
[15:04:05] <servus> I'd be recreating GL textures all the time...
[15:04:15] <servus> Better just to keep it as day palette and do the nighttime stuff myself.
[15:13:29] <servus> I could take each xform table, average together all the destination colours, increase the intensity, and use that as the colour.
[15:15:45] <sbx> Nighttime works?
[15:16:46] <servus> Pretty much. Animated frames that have already been created in day remain bright.I could fix that but I don't expect to actually want to use nighttime palettes anyway so I will just disable nighttime and do it my own way
[15:22:54] <sbx> any pics?
[15:23:00] <sbx> oh
[15:23:06] <sbx> nm I don't need any if you're changing it

[17:56:13] <sbx> That was like the... 20+something episode of wolf's rain, i still don't know whats going on
[17:56:26] <wjp> :-)
[18:02:30] <wjp> after ep 30 things might start to make sense ;-)
[18:07:45] <sbx> and that's the last episode if this guide is correct
[18:07:49] <sbx> haha
[18:08:07] <sbx> it sure is cheerful
