[00:03:14] <-- Dark-Star has left #exult ()
[00:04:12] <-- Fingolfin has left IRC ("bbiab")
[00:20:00] --> Kirben has joined #exult
[00:20:01] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to Kirben
[00:20:20] <Dominus> just the man I want to speak to
[00:20:23] <Dominus> hi Kirben
[00:21:17] <Dominus> I can't get Exult to compile, it craps out right away with make: *** No rule to make target `expack.o', needed by `expack.exe'
[00:21:31] <Dominus> that is following your guide in readme.win32
[00:27:11] <Kirben> Hi
[00:27:46] <Kirben> No left over *.o files anywhere ?
[00:28:24] <Dominus> nope, that happens after the cleaning
[00:31:10] <Kirben> I mean do a manual find over exult source code directory, just in case.
[00:31:46] <Dominus> did, befor answering
[00:32:06] <Kirben> Did you install mingw and msys in default locations ?
[00:33:05] <Dominus> no, but that didn't make it a problem befor (11/27/02 was the last time I compiled Exult)
[00:33:15] <Dominus> and it works with uwadv for example
[00:35:03] <Dominus> I'll try a new total clean install now
[00:36:09] <Kirben> Before you do, which what make you are using ?
[00:36:24] <Kirben> make -v
[00:36:44] <Dominus> GNU Make version 3.79.1, by Richard Stallman and Roland McGrath.
[00:36:45] <Dominus> Built for i686-pc-msys
[00:36:57] <Kirben> Thats fine
[00:38:14] <Dominus> what's the default for msys? c:\msys or c:\mingw\msys ?
[00:38:31] <Kirben> c:\msys
[00:43:45] <Dominus> exactly the same
[00:46:12] <Kirben> Hmm not sure what could be causing that, only time I have seen that error is when it can't find file to compile or files already been compiled in another directory.
[00:47:37] <Dominus> last option: checking out exult again...
[00:48:11] <Kirben> try cvs update -d -C -A if using command line
[01:00:25] --> Fingolfin has joined #exult
[01:00:25] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to Fingolfin
[01:04:59] <Dominus> Kirben: something was messed up. a fresh checkout worked wonders
[01:05:20] <Dominus> thanks for helping although it wasn't succesful before the checkout :-)
[01:06:33] <Dominus> he he, oops
[01:06:52] <Dominus> after the fresh checkout the sdl dir wasn't there anymore :-)
[01:07:02] <Dominus> of course compile stopped :-)
[01:14:08] <Kirben> btw want copy gtk2 port of exult studio ?
[01:14:31] <Dominus> slow modem connection atm
[01:14:52] <Kirben> About 3.4MB
[01:15:21] <Dominus> will take me too long atm
[01:15:55] <Dominus> I'll wait for it to become useable and supported in the main tree
[01:15:57] <Kirben> ok
[01:16:22] <Dominus> (or whenever I get my broadband back :-))
[01:24:58] <Fingolfin> T-DSL was down for a couple hours today, Dominus... at least in my area
[01:25:26] <Dominus> I moved and have to wait for the cable company to put in the actual cable...
[01:25:30] <Fingolfin> friend of my father called the Deutsche Telekom to ask them what's going on, and they told him that the whole region was affected
[01:25:52] <Dominus> that's nice
[01:26:02] <Fingolfin> then he called again some time later, and this guy now told him "your DSL is not working? OK we'll send somebody to measure your modem" (note: this costs about 50 Euro just for them to come)....
[01:26:25] <Fingolfin> so our friend asked this guy, slightly confused "But your colleque just told me the whole area is affected.. ?!"
[01:26:50] <Fingolfin> reply: "That's not possible! He couldn'T have told you, it's a secret" (actually, "Amtsgeheimnis")
[01:26:51] <Fingolfin> 8-)
[01:28:05] <Dominus> he he
[01:28:31] <Fingolfin> and later, around 6:30, he was told it'll going to be working againd around 7 (it was 8 in the end but oh well): they said the responsible guy just had to drive from Kassel to Frankfurt (maybe 75 km)...
[01:28:48] <Dominus> ouch
[01:28:57] <Fingolfin> so he was worried: "That's only 30 minutes, don't you think it'll take him longer to fix the problem, he'll barely arrive in Frankfurt around 7"...
[01:29:08] <Fingolfin> response: "Oh no worries, he only has to flip a switch to fix the problem"
[01:29:10] <Fingolfin> ...
[01:29:23] <Fingolfin> so much to the techincal competence of the Deutsche Telekom...
[01:29:38] <Fingolfin> you'd think they'd be able to have a guy on location all time to "flip the fix switch", lol
[01:31:47] <Dominus> shouldn't be too hard to have that guy tell someone by phone which switch to flip, even :-)
[01:35:44] <Fingolfin> like, the janitor =)
[01:35:54] <Dominus> he
[01:36:01] <Fingolfin> but I don't really believe that fixing this is as simple as flipping a switch...
[01:36:11] <Fingolfin> or rather, no matter what I believe, it's bad...
[01:36:45] <Fingolfin> if it's really that simple, then why can't they remote control it or have somebody stationed closer to it... you'd think they'd have people in Frankfurt (!) anyway
[01:37:09] <Dominus> yeah, it makes no sense either way
[01:37:16] <Fingolfin> and if it's a lie than the support people are lieing to customers with no apparent reason
[01:37:27] <Fingolfin> lying even
[01:37:36] <Fingolfin> ah to the heck with porper spling
[01:38:04] <Dominus> well, we are talking about the Deutsche telekom, you don't expact them to have their stuff remote controlled, so you? :-=
[01:39:40] <Dominus> it's like that bad joke: Why can you tell that the CIA was not responsible for the JFK-assassination?
[01:40:07] <Dominus> answer: He's dead, isn't he?
[01:47:17] <Fingolfin> lol
