[06:40:17] * Eclair is away: CHOBITS!!!!
[06:49:28] * Eclair is back (gone 00:09:10)
[06:56:02] <DarkeZzz> That was a quick episode. *grin*
[06:56:04] --- DarkeZzz is now known as Darke
[07:05:14] <Yuv422> hi Darke
[07:05:57] <Darke> Hiya.
[07:06:34] <Yuv422> How's your weekend been treating you?
[07:08:34] <Darke> Not to bad. My flatmate moved out, and off to the .uk on thursday, so it's been quite quiet, and I've gotten a surprisng amount of stuff done! *grin*
[07:09:12] * Eclair is away: reading manga, go away :P
[07:10:44] <Yuv422> Have you been directing this free time to worthwhile things like Pentagram!?
[07:12:20] * Darke dyes Eclair's hair a bright green whilst she's not looking.
[07:13:02] <Yuv422> You're quick the the dye Darke.
[07:13:34] <Darke> Yuv422: Nah. Finished putting together a machine for flatmate's mother that he didn't get around to finishing. Went and inventoried lots of spare computer parts owned by flatmate, and started building a box to watch movies on, it's compiling gentoo at the moment, hmm... and generally tidyied the place up. It needed it. *grin*
[07:14:14] * Yuv422 watches movies on his xbox.
[07:14:28] <Yuv422> only divX that is
[07:14:54] * Darke just uses mplayer under linux to watch movies. Works for almost every movie format in existance. *grin*
[07:15:22] <Yuv422> the xbox media player is a port of mplayer. :)
[07:15:22] * Darke just had a spare 19" monitor lying around and figured he'd put it to good use with a movie machine. Yes, he's just bored. *grin*
[07:16:11] <Darke> Eh? Are you running linux on your Xbox?
[07:16:21] <Yuv422> nope
[07:16:33] <Yuv422> xbox media player is a standalone app
[07:16:47] <Yuv422> I could run linux on the xbox but why bother
[07:16:55] <Darke> I didn't even know mplayer worked on windows, let alone xbox. Cool.
[07:17:51] <Yuv422> the best part is the fact that the xbox reads dvd-r's so you just burn 4 movies onto a disk and wack it in the xbox
[07:18:02] <Yuv422> or you can stream them from another PC
[07:18:34] <Yuv422> I've got lots of music videos on the xbox. that you can set to shuffle play :)
[07:21:16] <Darke> Cool. I have a few music videos, but I really don't watch anything much other then anime and occasionally a movie. Eyesights rotten so I'm better off just listening to mp3s. *grin*
[08:27:07] --> linxi has joined #exult
[08:27:20] <linxi> hmm
[08:27:22] --- linxi is now known as Linxi
[08:28:12] <Linxi> There is a bug in Zaurus port of Exult .. well, atleast I think so
[08:29:17] <Darke> What precicely? It may be in the normal version of exult too.
[08:29:50] <Linxi> The config file should be in homedir/.exult.cfg ?
[08:30:02] <Linxi> what is in zaurus /home/root/.exult.cfg
[08:30:22] <Linxi> It seems it dosent even read that config file :/
[08:30:56] <Linxi> For exsample, data path is always the same, you cannot change that at all.
[08:31:21] <Darke> Hmm... that sounds like a zarus specific problem indeed. Perhaps asking the question on our forum would get you a more specific answer, the guy who ported exult to the Zarus hasn't been around on irc lately.
[08:32:07] <Linxi> Oki, whats the url to forum
[08:32:25] <Darke> http://exult.sourceforge.net/forum/list.php?f=1
[08:32:53] <Darke> I'm just checking to see if it's been asked before. The port has a few minor differences in regards to file locations, IIRC.
[08:34:31] <Linxi> Any idea why is that so ?
[08:35:12] <Darke> http://exult.sourceforge.net/forum/read.php?f=1&i=13390&t=13390 Might help.
[08:35:29] <Linxi> Just noticed it also :)
[08:36:15] <Linxi> Ah, yes. Should work now .. Thanks.
[08:36:19] <Darke> I believe the most logical one would be because you're using 64Meg of memory for both hard disk space and ram, whilst most linux installations neither is usually an issue.
[08:38:21] <Linxi> Right.
[08:48:32] <Linxi> What dirs I need to run ultima 7?
[08:49:18] <Linxi> static and gamedat?
[08:51:42] <Darke> I think you only need static, gamedat is the temporary working area.
[08:53:05] <Darke> Yet-another Zaurus post in the forum has the details I believe.
[08:53:38] * Darke wonders if we have a Zaurus faq around somewhere, he really hasn't been paying attention to such stuff, since he lacks the device. *grin*
[08:54:02] <Linxi> :P
[08:54:26] <Linxi> HSN is selling them for 199$
[08:57:21] <Darke> Last time I checked they were over AU$1000, but even AU$400 is a bit too much for me to pay for a toy at the moment. *grin*
[08:58:35] <Linxi> Thats true..
[09:00:55] <Darke> Besides, I'm already at a computer if I'm at home, or if I'm at work. I don't need one to carry with me when I'm walking to and fro. *grin*
[09:01:27] <Yuv422> if you train it to work it might com in handy
[09:01:29] <Yuv422> +e
[09:01:36] <Yuv422> for a quick exult fix.
[09:04:43] <Darke> I'm within half an hours walking distance to my primary workplace. No trains, and no busses usually. *grin*
[09:15:14] <Linxi> Hmm... it seems exult in zaurus is not using these menubuttons..
[09:17:06] <Linxi> Ah, it works nice.. :)
[09:18:03] <Linxi> still got few megs left to was them something no-so-useful ;P
[09:19:31] --> Fermi has joined #exult
[09:36:56] <Fermi> A 30 minute walk to work?
[09:38:20] <Darke> Yep.
[09:39:11] <Darke> Or a 30 minute bus ride. Varies upon the traffic (people and pedestrian) wandering through the city at 7:30am in the morning though. Sometimes I'm 10 minutes early, other times up to 15 minutes late. Quite frustrating occasionally.
[09:39:20] <Fermi> It's approximately the same distance for my university. They ended the shuttle for my neighborhood in December. :(
[09:40:13] <Darke> Take a walk then, it's good exercise. *grin*
[09:40:34] <Fermi> Too cold! I'm changing schools in the fall.
[09:40:35] * Darke does tech support at uni and is rarely off his feet anyway, lack of exercise is not one of his problems. *grin*
[09:41:05] <Fermi> heh heh
[09:42:27] <Fermi> What is uni?
[09:43:24] <Darke> Queensland University of Technology, Gardens Point Campus. A mouthful. *grin*
[09:45:09] * Darke 's actual job title is CSO (or FLT depending upon whatever name they finally make up their minds on!) of TSS at FIT, QUT, GP. Alphabet soup. *grin*
[09:46:52] <-- Fermi has left IRC (sterling.freenode.net irc.freenode.net)
[09:50:06] --> Fermi has joined #exult
[09:59:55] --> Fermi2 has joined #Exult
[10:01:03] <Fermi2> heh so is it phone support?
[10:05:35] <-- Fermi has left IRC (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))
[10:05:44] --- Fermi2 is now known as Fermi
[10:05:46] <Fermi> :)
[10:16:08] <Darke> Thankfully it's minimal phone support. Mostly 'front line' problem solving. *grin*
[10:17:17] <Darke> Which means I rarely have to deal with The Evil That Is A Phone, but occasionally get to experience A-Grade stupidity and/or thickness first hand. *grin*
[10:19:21] <Fermi> only occasionally? ha
[10:22:19] <Darke> Well, yes, I regularly encounter "did not think before asking trivial question" type cases, but the really thick ones where I have to spend 20 minutes explaining $ObviousThing is not our problem doesn't happen regularly thankfully. *grin*
[10:23:47] <Fermi> Awww....so you don't have a loyal group of people constantly asking for you? :)
[10:27:55] <Darke> Generally, no. We support waaaaay too many people for that to be the case. *grin*
[10:31:23] <Fermi> Wow. So no 'regulars' and virtually no phone support? Sounds like a sweet setup.
[10:35:07] <Darke> Would be, except we're currently severely understaffed, have upper management that appear to have a PhD in management, rather then skill, and the pay's not all that great. *grin* Otherwise it's a job I enjoy, I just hope they work out their hiring mess.
[10:36:28] <Fermi> You get a lot of overtime?
[10:36:30] <Yuv422> Darke: Was it your uni that make the scram-jet?
[10:38:08] <Yuv422> make == made
[10:38:20] <Darke> Fermi: Solely because I'm a casual employee. I'm the one they need to keep on, but can't seem to get around to, y'know, giving me fulltime employment rather then a two week contract then a week off, then a two week contract... etc. If I were a full time employee I could take quite a few days off from my overtime instead. *grin*
[10:38:42] <Darke> Yuv422: Erm... *ponder* Honestly wouldn't know. University of Queensland would be the other option.
[10:39:38] <Yuv422> ah k
[10:39:54] <Yuv422> I remember it being from a Qld uni at least. ;)
[10:41:22] <Darke> Lets's see, off hand you've got "The University of Southern Queensland", "The University of Queensland", "Queensland University of Technology", and I think there's another two with 'Queensland' in their name, along with one without queensland in it's name.
[10:42:01] <Yuv422> *g*
[10:43:43] * Fermi can't feel his toes. brb ;)
[10:45:53] --> wjp has joined #exult
[10:45:53] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to wjp
[10:46:09] <Yuv422> hi wjp
[10:46:21] <wjp> hi
[10:46:57] <Yuv422> SB-X is making good progress with the u6 conversation format. :)
[10:47:05] <Darke> Hi.
[10:47:26] <Yuv422> we should have conversations in Nuvie soon. :)
[10:48:16] <Yuv422> after I fix Actor inventories.
[10:49:32] <wjp> :-)
[10:52:57] <Fermi> gah. Shouldn't there be showers in April instead of snow?
[11:04:38] <Fermi> Yuv422: What's Nuvie?
[11:05:10] <Yuv422> Nuvie is an open sourced engine for running ultima6
[11:05:18] <Yuv422> http://nuvie.sf.net/
[11:05:54] <Darke> Dunno, it's coming up to winter, I don't see why further down south it'd not be starting to snow.
[11:08:14] <Fermi> Darke: Winter should be ending here....Tucson is already exceeding 80f during the day...but not us...we get more snow.
[11:08:47] <Fermi> Yuv422: Neat!
[11:09:08] <wjp> 80f?
[11:09:10] * wjp blinks
[11:09:18] <Darke> Fermi: From reports from friends, it's apparently still snowing in Canada too if it makes you feel any better. *grin*
[11:09:28] <Fermi> Yuv422: I never got to play Martian Dreams or Savage Empire.
[11:09:58] <Yuv422> I'm focusing on U6 at the moment but I hope to fully support MD and SE too.
[11:11:17] <Darke> wjp: Why the stunned look? It's only 27C. *grin*
[11:11:24] <wjp> ah, thanks for converting that :-)
[11:12:16] <wjp> kind of hot... it's only about 10C here
[11:12:31] <Darke> wjp: IIRC, easy conversion from F->C is subtract 20 and halve it, and you'll be about the right number. *grin*
[11:13:14] * Darke thinks 27C is just the right temprature. Really needs to be up around 35-37C before it gets hot.
[11:14:35] <Yuv422> It's 16.7C outside for me ATM
[11:15:42] <Fermi> 14F for me...and our thermostat is broken so no heater.
[11:17:56] <wjp> so... (14-20)/2... just below zero? and no heater? yikes
[11:21:06] <Darke> 32F==0, so yeah, it's rather cool. *grin*
[11:23:07] <Yuv422> wjp: is there a make rule to clean .deps from the nuvie build tree?
[11:23:41] <wjp> hm, distclean should do it
[11:23:47] <wjp> but that cleans more than that
[11:25:46] * Yuv422 does a make -n distclean
[11:26:09] <wjp> make distclean-depend cleans dependencies, but that doesn't seem to be recursive
[11:26:43] <Yuv422> I fixed shoreline animations BTW. :)
[11:27:05] <Yuv422> that's been bugging me for awhile.
[11:39:28] <Fermi> Yuv422: Is that one of the bugs submitted by moonspark?
[11:40:03] <Yuv422> hmm might be. damn moonspark like to submit lots of bug reports. ;)
[11:41:24] <Yuv422> ahh, only 3 bugs left on the list to fix.
[11:41:51] <Fermi> heh :)
[11:56:35] <Darke> Wait 'til tommorrow morning. You know they'll suddenly multiply overnight and you'll have another 30 to fix. Don't say I didn't warn you. *grin*
[11:57:31] <Yuv422> hehe I know. But I can dream can't I? *g*
[11:59:05] <Darke> Sure! Provided you don't mind your dreams being reduced to smoking rubble! *grin*
[11:59:42] * Darke is *oh* *so* very cheerful and perky today! *grin*
[12:02:37] <Yuv422> look: Thou doth see a secret door
[12:03:16] <wjp> hm, shouldn't that be 'dost'?
[12:03:27] <wjp> (of course, my olde english isn't that good, so I may be wrong :-) )
[12:03:41] <Yuv422> hehe probably, let me check
[12:05:07] <Yuv422> yup you're right. :)
[12:08:04] --> sbx has joined #exult
[12:08:13] <Yuv422> fixed
[12:08:35] <sbx> hi
[12:09:01] <Yuv422> ;)
[12:09:52] <Yuv422> sbx: shoreline animation has been added.
[12:10:13] <wjp> hi
[12:10:39] <sbx> do you have to add animation for every tile?
[12:11:03] <sbx> for every tile that is animated
[12:11:36] <Yuv422> nah you double the tiles up.
[12:11:51] <Yuv422> cut out the animated area from the shoreline tile
[12:12:01] <Yuv422> and draw it ontop of correct water tile
[12:12:52] * Yuv422 tries to eat a pear while typing.
[12:12:55] <sbx> what i mean is there some flag on them that is set, and a simple method of gathering the frames together from the data, so you can do it automatically for every animated tile in the world
[12:13:48] <sbx> im glad to see shoreline animation... dont the coastal tiles include the ground and water?
[12:14:04] <Yuv422> no :( the shoreline tiles are stuck together in the tileset and have a hardcoded lookup table for corresponding animated tile
[12:14:28] <Yuv422> yes
[12:14:39] <Yuv422> but you chop the water out.
[12:14:49] <Yuv422> then replace with dynamic water.
[12:15:29] <Yuv422> I don't know why they decided to do it this way?
[12:15:53] <Yuv422> maybe water was originally going to be palette cycled.
[12:17:52] <sbx> all the more of a feat then that youve added it
[12:17:59] <sbx> do you know that it wasnt palette cycled?
[12:18:20] <Yuv422> not really a bit feat. ;) It is pretty well documented.
[12:21:50] <Yuv422> I might start working on the message scroll
[12:22:10] <Yuv422> so I'll be ready to start on conversations. :)
[12:25:11] <sbx> ok
[12:25:12] * sbx eats.
[12:25:40] --- sbx is now known as sbx|afk
[12:30:13] <-- Fermi has left IRC (sterling.freenode.net irc.freenode.net)
[12:42:53] <sbx|afk> argh
[12:42:56] <sbx|afk> its storming here
[12:42:57] <sbx|afk> bbl
[12:42:58] <-- sbx|afk has left IRC ("X-Chat [1.6.4]")
[13:11:23] --> Fermi has joined #exult
[13:12:56] <Fermi> wow. it seems like total silence descended on the channel since sbx decided to eat.
[13:13:56] * Yuv422 is working on ladders
[13:14:34] <Darke> Yuv422: Careful then! We don't want you to fall and hurt yourself, thus stopping your work on nuvie.
[13:14:59] * wjp prefers working on a chair
[13:15:19] <Yuv422> don't worry Darke. I;m following all the instructions. Not standing on the top rung etc. ;)
[13:15:39] * Darke is currently working on a bed, his rabbit stool broke and he hasn't had a chance to go shopping for a new one, so he dragged his bed in front of his PCs. *grin*
[13:15:55] <Darke> Yuv422: Hard balancing a laptop up there? Or are you programming on a pda?
[13:16:31] * Yuv422 has an imac on his knee.
[13:17:58] <Yuv422> lucky I've got an optical mouse! I can use it on my other knee.
[13:18:03] * Fermi chuckles
[13:19:44] <Fermi> Do you (all) ever listen to music streams?
[13:20:40] <Yuv422> not when you pay per meg. :(
[13:20:53] <Fermi> ack
[13:21:44] * Yuv422 atempts to use ladder and crashes.
[13:21:59] * Darke ... must... resist... singing... "I love to go a programming, a high up like a tree! And whilst I'm there, I love to type with an imac on my knee!"
[13:22:48] * Darke quickly hops away before random things get thrown at him!
[13:23:04] * wjp throws a paintbrush at Darke
[13:23:16] <wjp> ack; missed :/
[13:24:49] * Darke sings at the top of his voice, "Nuuuuvie! Nuuvvie! Nuuvie! Nuuuu-aha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! Nuuuvie! Nuuuvie! With an imac on my knee!"
[13:25:21] * wjp throws a space shuttle at Darke
[13:25:23] * Yuv422 hides behind his easel.
[13:25:28] * Darke quickly flees again and is kinda surprised he's done so well keeping rhyming and timing, given he's half asleep. *grin*
[13:26:40] <Darke> If you're looking for (or hiding from!) the tune I'm filking, it's called "The Happy Wanderer". *giggle*
[13:26:57] * Darke wonders where wjp got that space shuttle to throw at him?
[13:27:28] * wjp throws the International Space Station at Darke. Better not ask about that ;-)
[13:28:05] <Fermi> Is that still up there? ;)
[13:28:14] <wjp> not anymore ;-)
[13:28:29] * Darke eeps! He didn't know he was up so high!
[13:28:53] * Darke has a sudden, horrible thought. There isn't a quotes file for nuvie, right? Right?!? *whimper*
[13:29:48] <wjp> no, no, of course not... *types something behind his back*
[13:29:50] <Yuv422> mental note! 03/04/06. Darke regails us with a tune.
[13:30:05] <Darke> Umm.... *eep!*
[13:30:50] <Yuv422> don't worry Darke, with the amount of work still left to be done on Nuvie, I don't think quotes will be done anytime soon.
[13:36:26] * Darke has thankfully been avoiding getting quoted in the pentagram or exult quotes recently. *grin* Not sure why, he's been on irc more then he's had the chance to code unfortunately.
[14:28:53] --- Darke is now known as DarkeZzz
[14:29:05] * DarkeZzz waves goodnight here too. *grin*
[14:29:13] <Yuv422> night
[14:35:34] <-- Linxi has left IRC ("Client exiting")
[14:37:36] <Yuv422> weird ladders appear to line up
[14:38:03] <Yuv422> if I move to obj->x/4+3,obj->y/4-3
[14:38:24] <Yuv422> from the surface level to the first dungeon level.
[14:38:25] <wjp> weird :-)
[14:38:43] <Yuv422> the /4 part makes sence
[14:38:56] <Yuv422> not the +/- 3 bit.
[14:51:34] <Yuv422> hmm time for bed.
