[13:13:24] <Kirben> exult spam is becoming annoying.
[13:17:01] <DarkeZzz> Given that the spam to real posts ratio recently has been about 1:1 it is a minor problem. Though I suspect if people chatted more on it, it would become less of one. *grin*
[13:17:46] <DarkeZzz> The 'primary' problem is that we can't block posts from non-subscribers since we advertise that email address as our primary contact point other then the forums and irc.

[19:04:52] <wjp> yeah
[19:05:07] <Colourless> does undead count as alive?
[19:05:46] --- Colourless is now known as Cless|Away
[19:05:48] <Cless|Away> bbl
[19:08:06] <Wolfspirit> for some reason exult crashes on me as soon as the blood shows up and the game loads.. I had exult on linux about a year ago but this is a new system.. I'm running redhat 9 and I used the rdhat 8 rpms to install exult.. and I've setup my paths correctly under the exult.cfg, also, I got my data files form the ultima collection cd has anyone seen this before or may know of a reason why this is happening?
[19:08:55] <wjp> anything interesting showing up in the terminal?
[19:09:20] <wjp> missing data files is probably the most common cause of this
[19:09:30] <wjp> (if it is indeed missing a file, it should say which one on stderr)
[19:09:41] <Wolfspirit> I was running it from kde's run now.. let me try it at the terminal and I'll see if I get an error message
[19:10:39] <Wolfspirit> An exception occured:
[19:10:39] <Wolfspirit> File /home/jparrott/MyFiles/Games/Exult/blackgate is not of type FLEX
[19:10:39] <Wolfspirit> errno: 21
[19:10:39] <Wolfspirit> Error Description: Is a directory
[19:10:57] <Wolfspirit> plus.. it took like 5 or 6 segmentation faults in order to get it to runn
[19:11:28] <wjp> hm, sounds like config file has some wrong paths
[19:11:44] <wjp> does that path (/home/jparrott/..../Exult) show up anywhere in it?
[19:13:08] <Wolfspirit> ok.. this was confusing me.. maybe I set it wrong.. what is the differencec between <path> and <gamedat_path> ??
[19:14:02] <wjp> path should point to the directory containing the game's data files
[19:14:19] <wjp> (so <path> should have a subdirectory named static/ which contains lots of data files)
[19:14:43] <Wolfspirit> then what is the <gamedat_path>?
[19:14:43] <wjp> <gamedat_path> points to the 'gamedat' directory, which is where the 'journey onward'/quicksave is stored
[19:15:31] <Wolfspirit> where is that by default?
[19:15:47] <wjp> the 'gamedat' directory behind <path>
[19:16:01] <wjp> (but it's changeable for when you don't have write access to that dir)
[19:16:19] <Wolfspirit> I don't have a gamedat directory
[19:16:36] <Wolfspirit> I just have a blackgate and blackgate/static
[19:16:55] <wjp> do you have a separate dir for savegames?
[19:17:04] <wjp> if so, you might want to make a gamedat directory there
[19:17:09] <Wolfspirit> <savegame_path>
[19:17:10] <Wolfspirit> /home/jparrott/.exult/blackgate
[19:17:10] <Wolfspirit> </savegame_path>
[19:17:27] <wjp> so you could make gamedat_path = /home/jparrott/.exult/blackgate/gamedat
[19:17:44] <Wolfspirit> does it have to be there?
[19:17:47] <wjp> no
[19:17:52] <wjp> you can put it anywhere
[19:18:08] <Wolfspirit> but does it need to exsist?
[19:18:28] <wjp> it should mkdir it
[19:19:05] <Wolfspirit> ok... let me modify that and I'll be right back with the results
[19:22:30] <Wolfspirit> would this be correct? <path>
[19:22:30] <Wolfspirit> /home/jparrott/MyFiles/Games/Exult/blackgate/STATIC/
[19:22:30] <Wolfspirit> </path>
[19:22:37] <wjp> no, without the static
[19:24:28] <Wolfspirit> it's still crashing with An exception occured:
[19:24:28] <Wolfspirit> File /home/jparrott/MyFiles/Games/Exult/blackgate is not of type FLEX
[19:24:28] <Wolfspirit> errno: 21
[19:24:28] <Wolfspirit> Error Description: Is a directory
[19:25:00] <wjp> what's the line before the error?
[19:25:20] <Wolfspirit> Loading default keybindings
[19:25:20] <Wolfspirit> ============================
[19:25:44] <wjp> hm, could you send me your config file?
[19:26:10] <Wolfspirit> do you think I should uninstall the rpm and compile from source? because I did use the redhat 7.3 or 8 rpms and I have rh 9 or should that matter?
[19:26:17] <Wolfspirit> yeah I could..
[19:26:31] <wjp> I don't think it would matter if it runs
[19:27:07] <wjp> what do the lines under "Current path settings:" say on the terminal?
[19:27:28] <wjp> ah, nvm
[19:27:33] <wjp> the <waves> line is the problem
[19:27:35] <Wolfspirit> Static : /home/jparrott/MyFiles/Games/Exult/blackgate//static
[19:27:35] <Wolfspirit> Gamedat : /home/jparrott/.exult/blackgate/gamedat
[19:27:35] <Wolfspirit> Savegame: /home/jparrott/.exult/blackgate
[19:27:35] <Wolfspirit> Patch : none
[19:27:37] <wjp> that needs to point to a file
[19:27:57] <Wolfspirit> oh.. I thought just to the dir where it was
[19:28:13] <wjp> the name for the wave file isn't known
[19:28:17] <wjp> so we need that too
[19:28:52] <wjp> (the 'jm' in jmsfx.flx stands for J.Morris; there's also a couple of other packs around)
[19:29:30] <Wolfspirit> I got those
[19:29:38] <Wolfspirit> let me try that
[19:30:49] <Wolfspirit> Creating new player thread
[19:30:50] <Wolfspirit> Gamedat identity FORGE
[19:30:50] <Wolfspirit> Loading exult.flx...
[19:30:50] <Wolfspirit> Loading <DATA>/exult_bg.flx...
[19:30:50] <Wolfspirit> Found Serpent Isle 'paperdol.vga', 'gumps.vga' and 'shapes.vga'.

[19:31:10] <wjp> hm
[19:31:26] <wjp> interesting
[19:32:09] <wjp> how big is your jmsfx.flx?
[19:32:37] <wjp> or md5sum
[19:33:29] <Wolfspirit> 5.6 meg
[19:35:25] <wjp> hm, this could be a rh8/rh9 problem
[19:35:38] <wjp> not really sure what else it might be
[19:35:41] <Wolfspirit> I was thinking that..
[19:35:57] <Wolfspirit> I thought I could use them.. didn't think there would be to much of a difference
[19:36:11] <Wolfspirit> I could uninstall the rpm and try compiling from source
[19:38:53] <Wolfspirit> I'll brb
