[01:53:45] --> `Carl has joined #exult
[01:53:51] <`Carl> Good evening :)
[01:56:33] <`Carl> I was wondering if anyone was around who could help me with a SI problem? :)
[01:56:47] <Marzo> I can try
[01:56:52] <`Carl> Excellent!
[01:58:09] <`Carl> I have just completed BG and have moved onto SI, and I have noticed a very odd sound issue: when opening paper dolls, inventory screens, and the like I don't get the traditional 'woosh' sound from BG (and that I remember being in SI): Instead I get a sound much like that of when you eat food. Considering opening said items is probably done more in the game than anything else, the lack of the proper sound is very disconcerting
[01:58:40] <Marzo> I assume that you have downloaded the sound packs?
[01:58:54] <`Carl> yes indeed. The sound worked beautifully in The Black Gate
[01:59:52] <Marzo> In your exult.cfg file, look for the '<serpentisle>' section
[02:00:04] <Marzo> Inside it, look for '<waves>'
[02:00:27] <Marzo> (by 'inside it' I mean between '<serpentisle>' and '</serpentisle>')
[02:00:35] <`Carl> <waves>
[02:00:35] <`Carl> jmsisfx.flx
[02:00:35] <`Carl> </waves>
[02:00:35] <`Carl> </serpentisle>
[02:00:54] <Marzo> Hm
[02:01:14] <`Carl> As I said, the sound effects -work-, it just seems that one paticular sound is incorrectly identified and is playing the wrong one
[02:01:45] <Marzo> Wait a bit, let me check the originals
[02:01:53] <`Carl> alrighty :)
[02:04:30] <Marzo> OK, I notice a difference in sound also in BG and SI in Exult, but not in the originals (or at least, with the sound card I have, I can't see if there is a difference)
[02:04:51] * `Carl nods
[02:05:15] <`Carl> The paperdoll sound in exult really bugs the poo out of me -_-. I was wondering if there was any way to fix it?
[02:05:42] <Marzo> I think it is hard-coded in Exult
[02:05:48] <`Carl> :(
[02:06:00] * Marzo is checking the Exult source
[02:12:51] <Marzo> OK, Exult uses sfx 14 in BG and in SI for the gump sound
[02:13:03] <Marzo> However, it seems that it should be another value in SI
[02:15:53] <`Carl> Someone else who was having the same problem mentioned that the 'open book' sound seems to be the proper gump sound in SI, though I havn't gotten far enough in to test it yet
[02:17:11] <Marzo> Exult uses the same sfx for all gumps, books or no books
[02:17:39] <`Carl> hmm
[02:18:49] <Marzo> OK< comparing with the original and using the sound tester, I think that gumps in SI should use sfx 94
[02:19:21] <`Carl> awesome :) now the million dollar question: can you fix it so that it does? :)
[02:19:22] <Marzo> It won't make much difference, though, as sfx 14 and sfx 94 are identical in the sound packs
[02:19:28] <`Carl> urp
[02:19:33] <Marzo> Indeed
[02:19:42] <Marzo> Seems we need better sound packs :-)
[02:19:46] <`Carl> But you too notice the difference between BG and SI?
[02:19:56] <Marzo> Yes
[02:20:13] <Marzo> And, as I said, the difference is not in the original games
[02:20:19] <`Carl> *shifty eyes* I don't suppose there's some way of accessing a different soundpack for just that value
[02:20:41] <`Carl> or splicing it into the SI one :)
[02:21:07] <Marzo> So this is (a) a bug in Exult (it should use sfx 94 in SI, rather than sfx 14 as in BG) and (b) the sound pack has a problem in that sfx 14 and 94 are identical in SI
[02:21:33] <Marzo> I think it can be done, but I don't know the format of the sfx pack myself
[02:22:38] <`Carl> Rats :/ are any around who does? Or atleast can eventually be informed, leading to a glorious update to the exult site where I can procure such a miracle fix? :)
[02:22:52] <Marzo> Oh wait... they are flx files
[02:23:02] <`Carl> Indeed
[02:23:09] <Marzo> You can use the Exult tools to edit them
[02:23:15] <Marzo> Specifically, expack
[02:23:16] <`Carl> Exult tools?
[02:23:34] <Marzo> There is a binary snapshot of them for Windows in the downloads page
[02:25:38] --> wizardrydragon has joined #exult
[02:25:43] <`Carl> When I attempt to run any of the .exe files, they instantly close on me
[02:25:52] <wizardrydragon> Moo.
[02:25:59] <`Carl> Greetings
[02:26:06] <Marzo> You can extract the contents of the packs (preferrably to different folders) with expack, copy the 14.u7o file that expack spits out from the BG pack to the SI pack then join all together again with expack
[02:26:17] <Marzo> They are command-line tools
[02:29:07] <`Carl> I am attempting to do expack -x jmsfx.flx and it reports "this application has requested the rumtime to terminate it in an unusual way."
[02:30:15] <Marzo> The commandline seems correct
[02:30:51] <Marzo> Oh: is the jmsfx.flx file in the same dir as expack?
[02:30:57] <`Carl> Just figured that out haha
[02:32:09] <Marzo> I recommend that you copy all the extracted *.u7o files to another dir to avoid overwriting them all when extracting from the other file
[02:34:59] <`Carl> Hmm, it outputs them as .u70, and the wavelist seems to want .wavs
[02:35:34] <`Carl> .u7o even
[02:35:35] <Marzo> I think you can just rename them to wav, but I am not sure
[02:36:03] <`Carl> what about re-naming the entires in the wavelist? would that work as well?
[02:37:27] <Marzo> Now that I think about it, I think that you will need to create a script file for expack to join all the files back together
[02:37:43] <Marzo> I will give an example
[02:40:13] <Marzo> Here is the example: http://exult.cvs.sourceforge.net/*checkout*/exult/exult/data/bg/flx.in?revision=1.28
[02:40:58] <`Carl> I am unfamiliar by what you mean or what that example is pointing out, i'm afraid :/
[02:41:20] <Marzo> The expack script file I mentioned above
[02:43:15] <Marzo> Good night
[02:43:22] <`Carl> good night
[02:44:13] <-- Marzo has left IRC ("Marzo vanishes suddenly.")
[02:58:15] <`Carl> Marzo was actually incorrect, or well, possibly mis-stating the results of his findings
[02:59:02] <`Carl> Basically, switching entires 93 and 94 solved the problem *shrugs* anywho, thanks!
[02:59:09] <-- `Carl has left IRC ("Remember remember the fifth of November: gunpowder, treason and plot. I see no reason why gunpowder, treason should ever be f)
[02:59:37] <Baastuul> That's so true@
[02:59:38] <Baastuul> !
[02:59:43] <Baastuul> Treason should NEVER be the letter f!
[02:59:47] <Baastuul> Because f can't be trusted
[02:59:55] <Baastuul> f is a dirty fool
[03:00:41] <wizardrydragon> f is indeed very dirty.
[03:01:01] <wizardrydragon> Greetings, Baastuul! How has time treated you as of late?
[03:11:03] <Baastuul> Go away! Go away!
[03:11:06] * Baastuul scurries away into the night!
[03:11:52] <wizardrydragon> Not well, I would conclude, then.

[03:53:00] <Baastuul> <:o
[04:02:16] <servus> Squeeeeeeeeeal like a piggie!
[04:02:27] <Baastuul> >:O
[04:02:33] <Baastuul> I am eating beef jerky and drinking water.
[04:03:00] <wizardrydragon> Did you consider the beef jerky's feelings on this matter?
[04:03:02] <servus> Cows are much bigger than you.
[04:04:53] <Baastuul> They are gentle creatures of the field, creatures given to acts of mastication and defecation.
[04:05:54] <wizardrydragon> So whyever would you turn them into jerky and consume them?
