[00:07:43] <Baastuul> http://www.math.leidenuniv.nl/~wpalenst/exultlog.php?log=toc
[00:07:51] <Elizabeth> omg you mean irc chat isnt private?!?
[00:07:53] <Elizabeth> lol
[00:08:09] <Baastuul> Just not this channel. :D
[00:08:47] <Elizabeth> lol plz like any channel is that is public
[00:10:19] <Baastuul> I hate typing up study guides.
[00:10:22] <Baastuul> I grow weary of this toil!
[00:10:26] * Baastuul throws his scythe down.
[00:11:46] <Elizabeth> trusted computing eh?
[00:12:03] <Elizabeth> you antip2p or something?
[00:12:34] <Elizabeth> or is that video antitc?
[00:12:35] <Elizabeth> lol
[00:12:57] <Elizabeth> i dont really feel like actually watching it as you can tell
[00:13:09] <Baastuul> The message of that video is not anti-P2P :D
[00:13:26] * Baastuul munches on some Japanese rich crackers wrapped in seaweed.
[00:13:27] <Elizabeth> hehe
[00:15:14] <Elizabeth> you from australia Colourless?
[00:15:51] <Baastuul> He is from Svalbard! No other place!
[00:16:00] <Baastuul> I will not accept that he is from any other geographical location!
[00:16:15] * Baastuul wails piteously.
[00:16:18] <Elizabeth> svalbard?
[00:16:39] <Colourless> i am from australia, yes
[00:16:46] <Baastuul> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Svalbard
[00:17:05] * Baastuul implodes knowing that Colourless is not from Svalbard.
[00:17:16] <Elizabeth> ah, whereabouts in australia?
[00:17:31] <Elizabeth> you must just be getting to work or something
[00:19:11] <Colourless> formally of the city of adelaide, now living in the backward small country town of Terowie. Population about 150
[00:19:18] <Baastuul> :o
[00:19:23] <Baastuul> What in tarnation are you doing in Terowie?
[00:19:47] <Elizabeth> lol 150? goddamn
[00:19:54] <Baastuul> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terowie
[00:19:54] <Elizabeth> adelaide...hmm...Ive heard of that
[00:20:25] <Baastuul> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Terowie_station.jpg <-- This is where Colourless works.
[00:20:40] <Baastuul> And I am guessing plays Ultima 7.
[00:21:12] <Elizabeth> lol
[00:21:19] <Elizabeth> why do you live in such a small town?
[00:21:36] <Elizabeth> was it an attempt to be miserable?
[00:21:57] <Colourless> if you read that wiki page you'll see that there is nothing here... nothing here means CHEAP!
[00:22:24] <Baastuul> What kind of Internet access do you get there?
[00:22:49] <Colourless> we get dual isdn!
[00:23:00] <Baastuul> That's pretty good for a town with a population of 150!
[00:23:12] <Elizabeth> cheap but what do you do for work?
[00:23:21] <Baastuul> He sells iguana steaks, I bet.
[00:23:42] <Colourless> my gf and I are developing an indy rpg under a government scheme
[00:23:50] <Baastuul> :O
[00:24:02] <Elizabeth> under a govt scheme?
[00:24:12] <Elizabeth> what do you mean by that?
[00:24:28] <Elizabeth> the govt is funding it ?
[00:25:52] <Colourless> http://www.workplace.gov.au/workplace/Category/SchemesInitiatives/NEIS/
[00:26:23] <Baastuul> Interestung!
[00:27:02] <Colourless> we do get paid a modest amount while on the scheme
[00:28:04] <Elizabeth> oh thats cool
[00:28:18] <Elizabeth> given what you know though I wouldnt think you would have trouble finding a job
[00:28:35] <Elizabeth> I was actually thinking you were doing govt work given that location
[00:28:36] <Elizabeth> lol
[00:29:07] <Elizabeth> but thats cool your govt has a program like that to help ppl out
[00:31:02] <Colourless> i have tried getting work in the industry... i was this close to getting a job at the only major developer in Adelaide... and they were bought out and then closed down... *sighs*
[00:32:24] <Elizabeth> yeah I would think youd have better luck in the bigger cities
[00:32:29] <Elizabeth> like Sydney
[00:32:46] <Colourless> so instead gf and I are developing an indie game because we can. Not trying to be anything big, just a bit different and hope we get enough players to meet our required numbers
[00:33:14] <Elizabeth> what is an "indie" game?
[00:34:01] <Baastuul> Independent
[00:34:09] <Elizabeth> oh ok
[00:34:16] <Elizabeth> thought it was a game type
[00:34:17] <Elizabeth> lol
[00:34:21] <Elizabeth> i get it
[00:34:22] <Colourless> independant, meaning not published or financed by one of the major publishers
[00:34:31] <Elizabeth> right ok
[00:34:49] <Elizabeth> was thinking it was describing the game itself
[00:34:50] <Elizabeth> lol
[00:35:08] <Elizabeth> so what kind of game? rpg you said?
[00:35:18] <Elizabeth> thats like WoW and whatnot right?
[00:35:50] <Colourless> http://restlessworld.hidden-waters.com/
[00:36:07] <Colourless> best description would be social mmorpg
[00:36:31] <Elizabeth> over 16?
[00:36:32] <Elizabeth> hehe
[00:36:37] <Elizabeth> a dirty game?
[00:36:39] <Elizabeth> lol
[00:37:07] <Colourless> of course the definition of 'massively' in mmorpg is debatable. It's multiplayer, and it's online, but the exact number of players required to make it 'massively' is up to debate
[00:37:22] <Colourless> not really dirty
[00:37:26] <Elizabeth> haha yeah
[00:37:48] <Elizabeth> kind of hard to say massive when its not ready yet
[00:37:50] <Elizabeth> :D
[00:37:50] <Colourless> there are limits of acceptable for what you can put in a game
[00:38:07] <Elizabeth> you clearly havent played GTA
[00:38:10] <Elizabeth> lol
[00:38:21] <Colourless> and of course there are laws in this country that just flat out prevent us from putting certain content in
[00:38:37] <Baastuul> We're too cool for games like GTA.
[00:38:41] <Colourless> of course i've played GTA... and it was banned from sale here .au land
[00:38:50] * Baastuul slicks back his hair like a greaser in a 1950s malt shop!
[00:38:57] * Baastuul bops his head back and forth to the rockin' tunes of the jukebox.
[00:39:01] <Elizabeth> GTA is so lame
[00:39:08] <Elizabeth> it cracks me up its so popular
[00:39:14] <Elizabeth> all b/c of the shock value
[00:39:24] <Elizabeth> b/c as a game its pretty limp
[00:40:06] <Elizabeth> so is the game in C or is asm required for performance?
[00:40:37] <Colourless> using a licensed engine written in C++ with small sprinkings of asm
[00:41:04] <Elizabeth> ah
[00:41:07] <Elizabeth> kewl
[00:41:25] <Colourless> wouldn't use C for a project of this size anyway. Sure you could, but it would be a PITA
[00:41:49] <Elizabeth> lol
[00:41:53] <Elizabeth> yeah it is
[00:42:03] <Elizabeth> but many times C is best for the purpose
[00:42:12] <Elizabeth> despite the size of the project
[00:42:27] <Elizabeth> you just have to suck it up and deal
[00:42:27] <Elizabeth> lol
[00:43:17] <Elizabeth> any AI type concepts in the game code?
[00:43:45] * Colourless looks at the person accross the room
[00:43:55] <Colourless> they want really sophisitcated AI, but it's not going to happen
[00:44:12] <Elizabeth> haha
[00:44:15] <Colourless> firstly, don't have the time, expertise or hardware to really do anything special
[00:44:27] <Elizabeth> thats too bad
[00:45:28] <Colourless> secondly, the projects goals have sifted much more closely towards social aspects and just things like customization and speical AI will take away from those aspects
[00:46:03] <Elizabeth> social aspects like what?
[00:46:07] <Colourless> doing things like implementing a relavitely robust IK system is more important than 'smart' AI
[00:46:38] <Colourless> we want it so players can actually properly touch and interact with each other
[00:47:14] <Colourless> which is usually not even considered for like all MMOs. Normal MMOs focus on combat primarily, we are not
[00:49:13] <Elizabeth> what sort of interactions will there be?
[00:49:53] <Elizabeth> I would think some form of AI coding would be useful for that...potentially allowing new unthought of interactions
[00:50:51] <Elizabeth> if the code was able to construct new types and forms of interactions based on the standard use of interactions over time
[00:51:31] <Colourless> saying anything you want would be a bit broad, but its not necessarily untrue. There will be a number of inbuilt 'interactions' like hold hands, hug, kiss, slap, but I'm also going to implement a posing system where you as a player can develop your own if something you want isn't already there
[00:52:19] <Colourless> big trick is making the posing system easy to use
[00:52:50] <Elizabeth> yeah and making it bug free
[00:53:43] <Elizabeth> if ppl are able to create interactions...if they became really complex...I could see issues arising
[00:54:34] <Colourless> interactions will be liked to the game mechanics though. If someone wants to do something to you, you have the oportunity to prevent them from doing it, either by an out of character no, or by an in character attempt where you let the game engine decide if your character can or can not resist
[00:55:27] <Elizabeth> also if you are allowing ppl to create new interactions...what about the response to that interaction given by another user
[00:55:44] <Elizabeth> will the system somehow formulate a response on the fly?
[00:56:03] <Elizabeth> or does the other person have to then create manually a response?
[00:56:59] <Colourless> depends on what you're doing. For the most part, the interaction will define the actions of all parties involved if all parties agree to it
[00:57:28] <Colourless> so you can pose other people, if they let you
[00:58:13] <Elizabeth> well say I want to create an interaction of taking a bucket of water and dumping it on another persons head
[00:58:15] <Elizabeth> lol
[00:58:37] <Elizabeth> could I do something like that?
[01:06:35] <Colourless> hmm... maybe :-)
[01:07:16] <Colourless> would need a particle effect probably to simulate the water coming out
[01:20:08] <Elizabeth> hehe yeah but say there wasnt a bucket object yet in the game?
[01:20:14] <Elizabeth> could it be created?
[01:22:34] <Colourless> players can not add items to the game
[01:22:40] <Colourless> it's just asking for trouble
[01:23:46] <Colourless> at best a player can make an item and ask for it to be added. Content needs to be moderated
[01:24:02] <Elizabeth> lol right I understand...thats why I was asking
[01:24:23] <Elizabeth> so ok...interactions are dependent upon available objects
[01:24:31] <Elizabeth> and available motions I imagine too
[01:40:24] <Elizabeth> anyone in here ever do any lisp or scheme programming?
[01:47:33] <Colourless> lots of irritating stupid parentheses?
[01:47:35] <Colourless> pfft no
[01:48:27] <Elizabeth> hahaha, well its good for certain things
[01:48:57] <Elizabeth> some AI-esque things for one
[01:50:36] <Baastuul> I am installing Neverwinter Nights!
[01:50:39] <servus> Are there any screenshots of this Restless World?
[01:52:35] * servus doesn't understand the concept "a world designed to let you do a lot of different things" in online games.
[01:52:47] <servus> The more you add, the less you can do!
[01:52:58] <servus> Uh oh, I feel a ramble coming on. Better get back to code : o)

[20:36:35] <ixian_probe> is it possible to use the cheat NPC editor to activate the pikeman needed for list field training?
[20:36:54] <ixian_probe> eg. not having to restart the game ^_^
