[05:15:26] <Wolfspirit> does anyone know the system requirements for exult / ultima 7 ?
[05:16:58] <Kirben> Best to just try, on low end system would be best to disable filers and scaling.
[05:17:35] <Eclair> Wolfspirit: iirc 486
[05:17:47] <Eclair> MSDOS 5 or above,
[05:17:54] <Wolfspirit> well I just put linux on an old laptop I got off ebay for 100 bucks and I was hoping to put some games (especialy exult) on it.. would 166 mhz pentium with 48 meg of ram be enough?
[05:18:27] <Eclair> yeah
[05:18:30] <Eclair> that should work
[05:18:58] <Wolfspirit> cool
[05:19:07] <Wolfspirit> I'm glad to hear that heheheh
[05:19:36] <Wolfspirit> thanks... it's been so long since I play ultima 7 when it first came out, I forgot what system I played it on lol
[05:19:48] <Eclair> hehe
[05:19:55] <Wolfspirit> ultima 7 rocks
[05:19:55] <Eclair> I remember when I first played U6
[05:19:59] <Eclair> 5 1/4 discs
[05:20:07] <Eclair> was... WOW when I saw the EGA graphics
[05:20:10] <Wolfspirit> yeah.. I had U6 too heheh
[05:20:29] <Wolfspirit> that one came with a cool map
[05:20:57] <Eclair> yeah
[05:20:59] <Eclair> cloth map
[05:21:13] <Wolfspirit> this is actually not that bad of a laptop even though it's slower.. I am still putting it to good use with linux
[05:21:47] <Wolfspirit> of course.. I need to get a net connection for it.. burning cds to transfer files is not going to cut it
[05:21:47] <Eclair> hehe
[05:21:55] <Eclair> what lappy?
[05:22:02] <Eclair> you can use serial or parport
[05:22:08] <Eclair> plip/slip
[05:22:16] <Eclair> though I recommend plip if you do that
[05:22:55] <Wolfspirit> thinkpad 760Xl pentium 166 mhz with 48 meg ram and 3 gig hardrive with internal 20 x CD-ROM and external floppy
[05:23:04] <Eclair> hehe
[05:23:06] <Eclair> use plip
[05:23:19] <Eclair> unless you somehow can get a pcmcia netcard
[05:23:36] <Eclair> though.. last I remember the p166 didn't HAVE pcmcia
[05:23:41] <Wolfspirit> I was thinking About just getting an ethernet pc card and hooking it up to my network
[05:23:53] <Wolfspirit> it has two pcmcia slots believe it or not
[05:23:59] <Eclair> hehe
[05:24:04] <Eclair> then get a netcard (type 2)
[05:24:13] <Wolfspirit> plus external display port and ps/2 for external mouse
[05:24:33] <Wolfspirit> not a bad deal.. got a free laptop carrying case too
[05:24:59] <Eclair> hehe
[05:25:18] <Wolfspirit> I just wish I could do more than 800x600
[05:25:43] <Eclair> hehe
[05:25:49] <Eclair> consider 800x600 a blessing :P
[05:26:03] <Wolfspirit> yeah.. compared to 640x480
[05:26:08] <Wolfspirit> yeck!
[05:26:25] <Eclair> lol
[05:26:33] <Wolfspirit> I'm at 1280x1024 on my desktop
[05:27:05] <Eclair> hehe
[05:30:40] <servus_sominus> doesnt the incorrect aspect ratio annoy you, wolfspirit?
[05:34:37] <Wolfspirit> servus_sominus: no because I stretch it out with my monitor settings and it looks fine
[05:34:51] <servus_sominus> ick. :-p
[05:35:21] <Wolfspirit> actually right now I have it at 1152x864
[05:35:44] <servus_sominus> thats my res, yep... (interesting conversation!:)
[05:36:08] <Wolfspirit> that's my favorite usually

[19:33:32] <artaxerxes> hi all
[19:33:59] <artaxerxes> are you here wjp ?
[19:34:31] <artaxerxes> I wanted to know if you had any objection that I commit my changes to cmanip.cc
[19:41:56] <wjp> hi
[19:42:52] <wjp> probably not
[19:43:08] <wjp> if it doesn't break anything :-)
[19:45:55] <artaxerxes> it just adds a new command: -x to extract (read) the value for a given key
[19:46:07] <artaxerxes> if the key isn't there, it gives "unknown"
[19:48:06] <wjp> sounds good
[19:48:37] <artaxerxes> I based the code on "remove" since it uses only one parameter: <key>
[19:49:01] <artaxerxes> I also changed the usage() command accordingly
[19:49:09] <artaxerxes> ok commit on its way then
[19:53:27] <artaxerxes> oups
[19:53:54] <artaxerxes> I messed up the comment for cmanip.cc
[19:54:27] <artaxerxes> I hate vi. I should have learned it first I guess
[20:15:43] <wjp> :-)
[20:15:53] <wjp> why not set your editor to something non-vi, then?
[20:21:47] <artaxerxes> I guess I should do that.
[20:21:58] <artaxerxes> isn't is CVS_EDITOR or something like that?
[20:22:55] <artaxerxes> CVSEDITOR according to man cvs
[20:24:48] <artaxerxes> Willem, I'm trying to make a GUI tool to install the patch for Si-french. My requirements are in 3 parts and unfortunately, I've found nothing to satisfy the three at the same time. Would you have an idea? Here are the points:
[20:24:54] <artaxerxes> * must be portable at least Unix/Windows
[20:25:07] <artaxerxes> * must not be compiled language
[20:25:48] <artaxerxes> * must not require the user to install any other program when on Windows (should import its own needed DLLs)
[20:26:46] <artaxerxes> the best thing I've found was using Python and py2exe to produce an executable but py2exe is a pain to setup right and I cannot use PyQt with it
[21:05:07] <wjp> hm, no idea
[21:11:38] --> Fingolfin has joined #exult
[21:11:38] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to Fingolfin
[21:14:20] <wjp> hi Max
[21:15:02] <Fingolfin> hi Willem
[21:15:20] <wjp> did you catch my little scummvm monologue last night?
[21:15:52] <wjp> (in here)
[21:17:10] <wjp> Fingolfin: hm, what's the correct 'host' for (./configure --host=...) for osx?
[21:17:14] * wjp points at forum
[21:17:32] <Fingolfin> didn't catch dialogue
[21:17:34] <Fingolfin> and uhm
[21:17:40] <Fingolfin> you shouldn't have to specify a host...
[21:17:49] <wjp> although I guess it should autodetect
[21:17:50] <Fingolfin> if one uses a current config.guess file
[21:18:10] <Fingolfin> I think libtool/autoconf/automake "know" about darwin for 1.5+ years
[21:19:01] <artaxerxes> gotta go!
[21:19:05] <artaxerxes> see ya guys!
[21:19:07] <wjp> bye
[21:19:07] <-- artaxerxes has left #exult ()
[21:21:38] <wjp> anyway, ... *moves to #scummvm*... :-)
[21:22:01] <Fingolfin> hey, where did wjp go?!?
[21:22:04] * Fingolfin looks around confused
