[00:28:14] <smev81> hello, building cvs on linux with gcc 4.3.2 produces error "cannot find input file: Makefile.in"
[00:30:18] <smev81> forget my last post
[00:31:39] --- Sevalebed is now known as Sevalecan
[00:33:56] <smev81> have you ever seen a picture where the party stands on a turtle with Cantra, defending monks like my retail u7+bg+si+ss doublecdcase shows?
[00:34:31] <Marzo> Yes; it is a mockup
[00:35:08] <smev81> guess so
[00:35:54] <Marzo> It can be shown unequivocally to be a mockup: it has things that are not even possible in the game engine :-)
[00:37:02] <smev81> it is dissapointing a bit but not that awful as the missing parts of u8
[00:38:01] <smev81> now i have a real error message
[00:38:17] <Marzo> Shoot
[00:38:36] <smev81> xdrag.o: In function `Get_window_coords':
[00:38:47] <smev81> xdrag.cc:51: undefined reference to `XQueryTree'
[00:38:50] <smev81> and so on
[00:39:02] <smev81> last one is : 108: undefined reference to `XChangeProperty'
[00:39:05] <Marzo> Yes, that seems endemic
[00:39:22] <Marzo> A proper fix hasn't been made yet, though you can try a few things
[00:39:48] <smev81> Shoot
[00:39:50] <smev81> ;)
[00:40:06] <Marzo> You know that dir are your X11 libs?
[00:40:52] <smev81> i suppose, but will look up if i do
[00:41:31] <Marzo> Run this at the console: whereis libX11.la
[00:42:29] <Marzo> err... libX11.a
[00:43:30] <smev81> it finds /usr/lib/libX11.a
[00:44:13] <Marzo> Run export LIBS="-L/usr/lib -lX11 -lXext", then ./configure then make
[00:44:37] <smev81> autogen doesnt need to be rerun?
[00:44:45] <Marzo> No
[00:47:00] <smev81> it did the trick
[00:47:13] <smev81> i could start a game on u7
[00:47:35] <Marzo> For some reason, ./configure isn't adding the requisite X libraries
[00:47:55] <smev81> does it do that on many distros?
[00:48:34] <Marzo> So far, I've seen it in Archlinux (earlier today) and Ubuntu
[00:49:52] <smev81> does it happen often or very rarely? and only lately or for a long time?
[00:50:57] <Marzo> Pretty much constantly, I'd guess; wjp was looking into a way to have a fix that worked correctly in all distros
[00:52:36] <smev81> okay, so it does not lie in some updated package in special distributions, i guess
[00:52:52] <Marzo> No
[00:52:53] <Colourless> couldn't the inbuild configure function to find x be used
[00:53:23] <Marzo> I know very little about configure, so I wouldn't know
[00:53:27] <Colourless> i'm sure there is some reason why its not, but i've no idea what i'd be
[00:53:44] <Colourless> it's a persistent problem, so it needs fixing :-)
[00:54:06] <Marzo> There was a fix in the patch tracker using AC_PATH_XTRA (that I had commited) which worked for Ubuntu, but it failed in some platforms and wjp rolled it back
[00:54:58] <Marzo> I agree
[00:56:16] <Marzo> Since wjp was talking about changing the build system, I'd guess he decided it could wait
[00:58:57] <smev81> for combat, did you have to invent the damageamount weapons cause, or could you extract it? Because i remember a walkthrough which had such stats listed
[00:59:19] <Marzo> It is extracted from the original game data
[01:00:23] <Marzo> It can be viewed in ES too (and if the walkthrough lists a different value, then the walkthrough is wrong :-p)
[01:00:32] <smev81> of course
[01:00:48] <smev81> ahem, indeed
[01:16:33] <smev81> game crashed :( exception ::: ame::get_resource: Illegal resource requested: 'xforms/count' ::: errno: 11 ::: Error Description: Resource temporarily unavailable
[01:19:19] <Marzo> Hm. By any chance, are you playing SI?
[01:19:33] <smev81> yes
[01:22:04] <smev81> u7 crashes if keyring mod is enabled...
[01:23:12] <Marzo> In exult source, open file gamemgr/bggame.cc and copy lines 197-217 to gamemgr/sigame.cc at line 166 (before the curly brace)
[01:23:27] <Marzo> Then recompile and check if the SI crash still happens
[01:23:36] <smev81> okay
[01:26:50] <smev81> That helped
[01:27:28] <Marzo> I am glad I put that exception there, it really helps finding these bugs
[01:31:50] <smev81> squashing bugs more timeconsuming than coding?
[01:32:00] <Marzo> Yes
[01:33:49] <smev81> i try once in a while, but even the smallest projects has so many bugs... even HelloWorld
[01:33:53] <smev81> ;)
[01:34:59] <Marzo> The only "helloe world"-type program I ever wrote was in Visual Basic, some 12 years ago; it didn't have any bugs (but then again, neither it had any code...)
[01:35:20] <Marzo> s/helloe/hello
[01:35:31] <smev81> there you have that bug!
[01:36:25] <smev81> I am not a very dedicated programmer and when i return to writing i forgot even the most basic things
[01:36:52] <smev81> the only time i was in deep was on c64
[01:37:16] --> Baastuul has joined #exult
[01:39:10] <smev81> Thank you... i cant decide which game to play
[01:39:36] <Marzo> I have commited the fix above, so that SVN will no longer crash
[01:39:49] <Marzo> Why not play both? :-)
[01:41:18] <smev81> yes night is young first u7... then serpent isles
[01:41:47] <Marzo> Have fun
[01:42:59] <smev81> i will... even more, because i did not read what fixes keyring and sifixes include, searching them in game
[01:43:18] <Marzo> :-)
[01:43:52] <Marzo> sifixes actually fixes a few longstanding bugs; you may or may not find them, depending on what you do
[01:44:01] <Marzo> Keyring is the one with really new content
[01:44:23] <smev81> dont tell ;)
[01:44:36] <Marzo> hehe
[01:46:05] <smev81> the most annoying missing feature was the nevercleaning lake
[01:49:05] <smev81> segmentation fault on bg when keyring enabled...
[01:49:38] <Marzo> Can you give me specifics? What where you doing? Any error messages?
[01:49:48] <smev81> only that
[01:50:02] <smev81> i start a game or resume to the just started game
[01:50:24] <smev81> before "Loading default keybindings"
[01:51:28] <smev81> it seems to be my fault
[01:51:37] <Marzo> ?
[01:52:06] <Marzo> How so?
[01:52:37] <smev81> i had the avatarpack "installed"
[01:52:45] <Marzo> Ah
[01:53:06] <smev81> copied wrong files ... something like that
[01:53:32] <Marzo> Thinking to "enhance" the Keyring with the Avatar Pack is not only unneccesary but dangerous, as you see :-)
[01:55:30] <Marzo> Well, I am going to bed now; so good night and have fun (and hopefully, no more crashes)
[01:55:40] <smev81> Not reading readmes ...
[01:55:50] <smev81> Yeah good night, thank you again
