[08:36:02] <alexander__b> out of curiosity - any of you guys play traditional role-playing games?
[08:48:44] <edheldil> sure
[08:49:35] <edheldil> if by traditional you mean "at the table w/ friends"
[08:50:34] <alexander__b> yeah, heh. I play pathfinder/DnD 3.75 every week.
[08:56:09] <edheldil> we play DnD 3.5, more-or-less Forgotten Realms
[08:56:28] <alexander__b> I've actually only ever played gm-created worlds
[08:58:00] <edheldil> well, it depends... We often use stock anything but the world as well
[08:59:06] <edheldil> i.e. FR spells, races, etc, but the lands and countries are often our own
[08:59:58] <alexander__b> ah. we usually use the 4 core pathfinder books for races, spells, etc. sometimes there are a few homebrews or house rules surrounding it. in the campaign I'm currently playing, hobbits don't exist, heh.
[09:00:29] <edheldil> is Pathfinder a rules "upgrade" from stock DnD, just different world or what?
[09:01:29] <alexander__b> dnd 3.5 made better
[09:01:55] <alexander__b> not certified dnd, but just as dnd as "real" dnd. kind of how freebsd isn't certified unix.
[09:02:17] <alexander__b> pf is essentially to 3.5 what 3.5 was to 3.0.
[09:02:49] <edheldil> that sounds nice... do you use pcgen? Is it supported?
[09:02:59] <alexander__b> what's that?
[09:03:49] <edheldil> open source app for character creation and management
[09:04:07] <alexander__b> I'll try it right now to see
[09:06:10] <alexander__b> edheldil: or not
[09:07:42] <alexander__b> if it can't use icedtea, and requires the partly proprietary sun jdk, I'm not going to install it.
[09:08:42] <edheldil> I might be using it with icedtea, dunno. But never mind, I will check it when I can
[09:09:02] <alexander__b> trying to compile it on gentoo linux, and it asks for sun jdk.
[09:09:40] <edheldil> If you are interested, we have a wiki with our campaigns. Only in Czech, but you might get an idea
[09:10:13] <edheldil> ah, I just download the zip with jar & data
[09:11:12] <alexander__b> czech isn't my first language. not even my third, heh.
[09:15:48] <edheldil> :). We store our maps and materials there, like these: http://imgur.com/a/jwvJj
[09:16:35] <alexander__b> woah. that's pretty cool.
[09:29:38] <edheldil> I will look at Pathfinder - upgrade to DnD without going all the way to mmorpg might be interesting
[09:32:39] <alexander__b> ya 4e is awful
[09:32:55] <alexander__b> but I hate anything non-P&P. don't like figures, cards, etc.
[09:38:46] <edheldil> we actually use the figures to better visualize the fights
[09:38:55] <edheldil> I mean miniatures
[09:39:37] <edheldil> and lego blocks or my pile of shadowrun dice to mark walls etc. :)
[09:40:32] <alexander__b> we use dice for miniatures, heh. and only on really big battles, when it's somewhat necessary. one of us have a grid map.
[09:42:13] <edheldil> we do not use i always as well, but if you use tactics, you need some way to visualize the mutual positions etc
[09:43:49] <edheldil> and if you enter a room and the master takes all the heavies from the box and THEN uses up the 36 SR dice for minions, you know you have a problem :)
[09:49:25] <edheldil> btw we try to write journals from playing from the view of the characters, although it's seldom nice literature
[09:59:20] <alexander__b> we did that on our previous campaign. want to get the people back into it.

[18:32:46] <KC9SJQ> Howdy all
[18:32:52] <KC9SJQ> Quick, basic question.
[18:33:58] <KC9SJQ> I know the l key will show the location of the pointer, but it seems to be based off of the window location. Is there a way to get a in game location? Something compatible with BG's original location indicator.
[18:37:34] --> Yoshimo has joined #gemrb
[18:56:27] <lynxlynxlynx> x or maybe ctrl-x
[19:00:37] <KC9SJQ> let me try that really quick
[19:08:03] <KC9SJQ> ctrl-x did it.
[19:08:04] <KC9SJQ> Thanks
[19:13:31] <lynxlynxlynx> playing bg1, i guess?
[19:24:52] <KC9SJQ> I am
[19:25:13] <KC9SJQ> It's been a while, so I'm using a walktrhough. All the locations were listed by coordnate
[19:25:28] <KC9SJQ> So far, really impressed by gemrb
[19:26:23] <KC9SJQ> I think I screwed up something with the widescreen patch, through.
