[01:49:08] <tomprince> I have uploaded a couple of preliminary patches to SF implementing it. It still needs a lot of testing. especially for GameOnCD == 1, which I didn't test at all.
[01:49:35] <tomprince> The only real test I did is to see if it actually ran, on one particular install.

[09:43:46] <wjp> to be honest I wouldn't mind too much if game-on-cd doesn't work
[09:43:59] <wjp> but that may be just me
[09:51:00] <lynxlynxlynx> from what I remember, the funcionality isn't complete yet either
[09:51:14] <lynxlynxlynx> i think it was ed's work

[11:40:27] <fuzzie> well, i don't mind game-on-cd not working
[11:40:39] <fuzzie> but i don't actually have the disk space to copy all the game discs to the hard drive
[11:40:52] <fuzzie> so it is kind of important to me that starting-with-incomplete-cd-set works
[11:41:23] <fuzzie> and the "the bif doesn't exist" thing is relevant for some game's shipped config .. pst, maybe?
[11:42:44] <Gekz_> http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300372982700
[11:43:00] <Gekz_> fuzzie: you can run it off a usb
[11:48:11] <fuzzie> that would involve me actually having sufficient money to buy something big enough, atm :)
[11:59:47] <Gekz_> fuzzie: well, how much space do you need?
[12:00:29] <fuzzie> i think the IE games take about 12gb total?
[12:01:29] <Gekz_> hmm
[12:01:33] <Gekz_> 16GB USB stick you say
[12:02:17] <fuzzie> that would be sensible
[12:02:33] <Gekz_> wow
[12:02:37] <Gekz_> esata flash drives
[12:02:38] <Gekz_> that's new
[12:03:22] <Gekz_> $82
[12:04:47] <Gekz_> hmm
[12:04:52] <Gekz_> 16GB sticks are still expensive

[22:53:29] <Maighstir> quick question (hopefully), what video formats can GemRB play? I assume iwd2 uses bink, and the other games uses some proprietary format... what would be my best choice for doing my own videos? ogg theora?
[22:59:39] <fuzzie> we only have a player for the proprietary format (MVE) right now
[23:02:21] <fuzzie> i'm not sure what would be the best idea for anything else. I guess it would be simpler for us to add a theora decoder than anything else, although it'd be optional (like vorbis support).
[23:04:50] <Maighstir> I recall there being talk about integrating ffmpeg, but maybe I misunderstood something.
[23:06:16] <fuzzie> Avenger was looking into a one-time extraction of the bink code from ffmpeg.
[23:06:57] <Maighstir> ah, right
[23:08:11] <fuzzie> ffmpeg itself is a huge pain to link against, it's a lot of code and they keep changing the API.. it would be simple to support for example native video on Windows and gstreamer on Linux, but I don't think that really helps, there are no modern video formats which you can trust to play everywhere..
[23:14:39] <wjp> yeah, ffmpeg is a bit of a pain. It does work though
[23:15:27] <Maighstir> right, the dataset me and friends are working on is a long way off yet, so I have little doubt theora could get added before we'd be ready to take advantage of any video support anyway. even if it's low on the priority list
[23:15:28] <wjp> any experience with theora?
[23:26:04] <Maighstir> I have no coding experience at all outside web dev through PHP, and can only set up a compiler if I have decently clear instructions to follow. Also no experience with video save for watching and using a fw encoders.
[23:26:22] <Maighstir> s/fw/few
[23:28:14] <Maighstir> that usually doesn't stop me from messing around with stuff I don't understand though, in hopes of learning something
