[17:59:43] <kujeger> edheldil: I have made a recording of the opening in both "real" bg2 and gemrb here: http://kumini.kujeger.net/dump/gemrb/
[17:59:44] <Seniorita> Index of /dump/gemrb
[18:01:56] <kujeger> going through it frame by frame, at least one thing that's different is that gemrb occasionally plays move-animation without actually moving irenicus, while in bg2 change in animation is always accompanied by movement
[18:07:36] <kujeger> in fact juding only by the opening bit it seems that in bg2, animation and movement is linked; while in gemrb the character can both move position without progressing animation, and progress animation without moving
[18:20:29] <kujeger> lynxlynxlynx: sorry I took a while responding, wanted to do a bit more proper job on it than just eyeballing "this stutters"
[18:24:01] <kujeger> this all on gemrb 0.8.0, but it's been like this for some years (I remember being annoyed by stuttering back on 0.3, but not digging into it any further)
[18:28:34] <lynxlynxlynx> oh, this is much more subtle
[18:29:26] <lynxlynxlynx> we currently only have a reasonable guess at movement speed by checking the frame count (usually 9), but we know that's not good enough
[18:29:39] <lynxlynxlynx> it's even more clear if you compare bg1 and bg2
[18:30:05] <lynxlynxlynx> the problem is that this info is hardocoded in the animation systems of the games, which haven't been fully cracked
[18:30:26] <lynxlynxlynx> bgee may help here for bg2, since they seemed to have externalised this
[18:30:44] <kujeger> it seems movement speed is the same in bg2 and gemrb though - it's the syncing of movement and animation which is most obviously different (at least when watching video)
[18:32:25] <kujeger> but at least it's not me messing up something in the config :-)
[18:33:58] <lynxlynxlynx> hmm
[18:34:09] <lynxlynxlynx> it looks like there was an extreaneus frame in his gait
[18:35:44] <kujeger> (there are a few of places in the video where it jumps slightly, a couple of frames or so - recording software's fault, but should be obvious in the video)
[18:47:10] <-- Yoshimo has left IRC (Quit: Yoshimo)
[18:51:50] <lynxlynxlynx> did you slow down the video?
[18:52:28] <lynxlynxlynx> when i rerun the intro here, he moves much faster and the problem is nigh unnoticeable
[18:53:44] <kujeger> no, but let me rerun gemrb and compare
[18:55:40] <lynxlynxlynx> takes 2-3s less here than in your video
[18:56:11] <kujeger> the whole intro?
[18:58:23] <kujeger> yeah the video runs slightly slower here too. that's what I get for using the first hit on google I guess, sigh
[18:59:09] --> Yoshimo has joined #gemrb
[19:00:22] <kujeger> I still find it just as noticeable in gemrb proper though, it's just a little harder to tell exactly what is wrong with the animation/movement
[19:00:59] <kujeger> sometimes it looks as if the character snaps back a frame, because of the movement/animation desynch
[19:12:06] <lynxlynxlynx> i timed his walk
[19:12:27] <lynxlynxlynx> compared real gemrb with the video gemrb
[19:13:17] <lynxlynxlynx> tough problem though
[19:15:09] <kujeger> I wonder if all walking animations in bg2 are synced like john's walk though, with movement and animation change occurring furing the same frame. If so one could force walking animations to only update when the character changes position
[19:19:19] <kujeger> huh, running bg2 and gemrb side by side, the whole intro takes a lot longer in gemrb
[19:21:53] <kujeger> plain old movement speed is slighty slower as well
[19:33:21] <kujeger> allright, just for convenience I recorded the whole intro in plain BG2, walked around a bit, and made sure the video plays at the same speed the game runs. Handy for comparing with gemrb. It's here: https://kumini.kujeger.net/dump/gemrb/Bgmain_2013-08-21_21-24-50-71-1.m4v

[23:18:43] <-- Yoshimo has left IRC (Quit: Yoshimo)
[23:52:18] <mounir> according to some warnings, gemrb is missing some files when I am loading iwd and it seems that it is looking for CD2-6 directories that I do not seem to have in my installation
[23:52:33] <mounir> is there a trick I am missing or is that because I am using GOG version?
