[19:47:57] <brad_a> can somebody explain slowBIFs to me please?
[19:48:56] <tomprince> slowbifs is the code that stuck around when gameoncd went away.
[19:49:38] <brad_a> well in cachestream (the function that is causing me hell) if slowBIFs is not set then it simply returns the passed stream
[19:49:56] <tomprince> The theory is, that if you have the game on slow media, you want to cache the bifs as you access them (presumably on faster media).
[19:50:24] <brad_a> ok so basically the thing that is killing me i dont even need?
[19:50:39] <tomprince> Well, I think you do need the seek.
[19:50:55] <brad_a> well gutting out the dow while loop makes it not crash
[19:51:00] <brad_a> do/while
[19:51:06] <tomprince> But then, I haven't looked at that code recently.
[19:51:15] --> Joshua___ has joined #gemrb
[19:51:47] <tomprince> GameOnCD did that and also asked you to switch CDs.
[19:51:47] <Yoshimo> i have created 2 savegames , one in gemrb and one in the original bg2 engine. I tried to make them as similiar as possible, are you intrested to have them? Near Infinity shows some strange stuff for the baldur.gam_gemrb ;)
[19:52:40] <brad_a> so i should probably just stop pulling my hair out for now and ifdef that crap out so that i can at least have a working build?
[19:52:58] <tomprince> Does removing that function cause it to work?
[19:53:16] <brad_a> well i have had success just removing that loop
[19:53:24] <brad_a> so i assume removing the function would work too
[19:53:33] <-- Joshua__ has left IRC (Ping timeout: 265 seconds)
[19:54:02] <tomprince> In FileChace.cpp:CacheStream?
[19:54:09] <brad_a> yes
[19:54:22] <brad_a> lines 70-82 are commented out and it runs
[19:54:32] <tomprince> Is SlowBIFs set?
[19:54:34] <brad_a> if i uncomment them it crashes at line 57
[19:54:43] <brad_a> not unless its set by default
[19:54:54] <brad_a> thats the thing that doesnt make sense
[19:55:04] <brad_a> its the mere presense of that code that causes the crash
[19:55:20] <brad_a> i can uncomment it and wrap it in if (false) and it still will crash
[19:55:45] <brad_a> so its not a crash on execution
[19:55:55] <fuzzie> that makes me think 'linking issue or corrupt stack of some kind' still
[19:56:06] <brad_a> well im willing to believe that :)
[19:56:08] <tomprince> Yes.
[19:56:14] <brad_a> i just dont know what to do about it
[20:00:17] <brad_a> correct me if i am wrong, but if it were a linking issue wouldnt any use of what ever offending fstream codecause a crash in the other places its used?
[20:01:40] <fuzzie> i am more thinking linking issue internal to gemrb
[20:01:49] <brad_a> oh
[20:03:05] <Yoshimo> http://www.mediafire.com/?fhbtwlgi0q0g47d , has savegames to compare from bg2 and gemrb at the same place, same imported char, right after the intromovie
[20:03:42] <fuzzie> Yoshimo: do you see in-game differences?
[20:04:04] <Yoshimo> not yet, its not far into the game, so bg2 still loads both
[20:04:13] <Yoshimo> but nearinfinity cant decode the gemrb one properly
[20:07:42] <Yoshimo> bg2 shows names for party and non party characters, ni shows structure offset and structure size for the gemrb one, looks weird
[20:11:15] <Yoshimo> and ive not yet determined where it comes from but the bg2 original savegame has a variable more, "DREAM=-1"
[20:11:18] <brad_a> it probably doesnt matter but shouldnt buff be unsigned char?
[20:35:40] --> lynxlynxlynx has joined #gemrb

[20:49:31] <HelpMePLS> HELLO
[20:50:24] <HelpMePLS> who can help me? i have samsung galaxy tab 10.1 and wanna play baldurs gate 1
[20:50:39] <HelpMePLS> allready tried lot of times
[20:50:49] <HelpMePLS> but cant do
[20:51:31] <brad_a> do you have alogcat?
[20:51:42] <HelpMePLS> o thank you
[20:51:46] <HelpMePLS> what is it?
[20:51:59] <brad_a> its an app to reead the log to see what is going wrong
[20:52:13] <HelpMePLS> i can install now
[20:52:38] <HelpMePLS> i think is a this is i cant gemrb configiration
[20:52:44] <brad_a> probably
[20:55:40] <HelpMePLS> i have now alogcat
[20:55:54] <HelpMePLS> i need again install game right?
[20:56:04] <brad_a> no just try running it
[20:56:10] <brad_a> then open alogcat
[20:56:23] <HelpMePLS> i deleted
[20:56:27] <HelpMePLS> gemrb
[20:56:27] <brad_a> oh
[20:56:28] <brad_a> then yes
[20:56:32] <HelpMePLS> okey
[20:58:55] <HelpMePLS> one question
[20:59:23] <HelpMePLS> i need to install bgmain.exe and baldur.exe?
[20:59:29] <HelpMePLS> or without them
[20:59:43] <lynxlynxlynx> install the game
[20:59:52] <lynxlynxlynx> the executables don't matter either way
[20:59:54] <HelpMePLS> allready installed
[20:59:57] <fuzzie> it is best to copy everything
[21:00:02] <HelpMePLS> gam on windows
[21:00:02] <fuzzie> that way you don't forget anything important
[21:00:16] <HelpMePLS> okey fuzzie thanx
[21:00:38] <HelpMePLS> allready installed game on windows
[21:00:40] <brad_a> fuzzie, tomprince: i fixed it :)
[21:00:44] <fuzzie> how?
[21:00:59] <brad_a> i changed buff to unsigned char and block size i reduced to 1024
[21:01:11] <brad_a> dont know which of those 2 fixed it
[21:01:23] <fuzzie> wow
[21:01:26] <fuzzie> running out of stack space?
[21:01:27] <brad_a> yeah
[21:01:29] <brad_a> i guess
[21:01:40] <fuzzie> i guess that's 1mb of buffer on the stack there..
[21:01:40] <brad_a> but it worked outside the sandbox
[21:01:44] <brad_a> yes
[21:01:47] <brad_a> thats what i said
[21:01:54] <brad_a> maybe we should use malloc there
[21:02:03] <fuzzie> probably just use a smaller value
[21:02:08] <brad_a> that too
[21:02:25] <brad_a> what value do you think is good
[21:02:42] <HelpMePLS> after 13 minute game will be installed
[21:02:46] <HelpMePLS> and i change
[21:02:52] <brad_a> still have no explaination for why it runs fine outside the sandbox….
[21:02:54] <fuzzie> brad_a: i think 1024 * 64 would be good
[21:03:04] <fuzzie> probably sandbox enforces something else on stack as side-effect
[21:03:12] <brad_a> maybe sandbox isnt allowed that much stack allocation?
[21:03:12] <HelpMePLS> gemrb.cfg.sampe to gemrb.cfg
[21:08:12] <fuzzie> brad_a: just handwave and mumble about guard pages and evil spirits, i would recommend
[21:08:29] <brad_a> thanks fuzie :)
[21:08:40] <fuzzie> congrats on fixing it!
[21:10:18] <HelpMePLS> .//sdcard/app-data/net.sourceforge.gemrb
[21:10:27] <HelpMePLS> GamePath=.//sdcard/app-data/net.sourceforge.gemrb
[21:10:42] <brad_a> now i can get back to TTF and such :)
[21:11:15] <fuzzie> HelpMePLS: you shouldn't have a './' at the start, should you?
[21:11:25] <HelpMePLS> okey didt work
[21:11:29] <HelpMePLS> a?
[21:11:37] <HelpMePLS> i need to delete this right?
[21:11:38] <HelpMePLS> ok
[21:12:35] <brad_a> you shouldnt need to delete anything
[21:12:51] <HelpMePLS> GamePath=/sdcard/app-data/net.sourceforge.gemrb
[21:12:55] <HelpMePLS> like this?
[21:12:58] <fuzzie> looks better
[21:13:21] <HelpMePLS> i feeling like lame
[21:13:36] <HelpMePLS> wow!!!!!!w
[21:13:40] <HelpMePLS> its working now
[21:13:44] <HelpMePLS> thank you guys
[21:13:48] <HelpMePLS> yuppiiee
[21:14:40] <HelpMePLS> i need copy cd1 cd2 cd3(image files to?
[21:15:33] <brad_a> i think so
[21:15:53] <wjp> image files?
[21:16:01] <HelpMePLS> yes
[21:16:05] <HelpMePLS> for baldurs gate
[21:16:10] <lynxlynxlynx> not isos
[21:16:13] <HelpMePLS> cd1.image cd 2.image
[21:16:23] <HelpMePLS> not isos
[21:16:30] <lynxlynxlynx> they need to be unpacked
[21:16:38] <lynxlynxlynx> like if you did a full install
[21:16:56] <HelpMePLS> i did full install
[21:17:11] <HelpMePLS> it means
[21:17:18] <lynxlynxlynx> i've never seen cdx.image files
[21:17:43] <HelpMePLS> i need unpack all cd s and install to my galaxy tab?
[21:18:08] <lynxlynxlynx> if it worked on windows and you really did a full install, you should be fine
[21:18:48] <HelpMePLS> c1.cue file
[21:18:48] <HelpMePLS> cd2.cue
[21:18:48] <HelpMePLS> like this
[21:18:48] <HelpMePLS> thanks
[21:19:00] <HelpMePLS> its on windows not working without cd
[21:19:07] <HelpMePLS> but now working on my tab without cd
[21:19:14] <HelpMePLS> without problem
[21:21:28] <HelpMePLS> and last question
[21:24:03] <-- HelpMePLS has left IRC (Read error: Connection reset by peer)
[21:26:50] <lynxlynxlynx> for now
[21:30:12] <-- Maighstir has left IRC (Quit: .)

[22:09:37] <-- Yoshimo has left IRC (Quit: Yoshimo)
[22:45:40] <-- Joshua___ has left IRC (Quit: Page closed)
[22:50:54] <brad_a> any word on the forum restoration?
[22:59:55] <lynxlynxlynx> nope
[23:00:03] <-- brad_a has left IRC (Read error: Connection reset by peer)
[23:00:10] --> brad_a has joined #gemrb
[23:00:27] <lynxlynxlynx> the site was refreshed, but there's apparently still some work to be done on the forum
[23:00:46] <lynxlynxlynx> fine by me, since i discovered an odd bug yesterday
[23:01:16] <brad_a> lynxlynxlynx: what bug?
[23:01:58] <lynxlynxlynx> cleric spellcasting has something like an off-by-one error in the new code, so it is basically broken
[23:02:13] <lynxlynxlynx> though it is the same code as for the mages
[23:02:37] <lynxlynxlynx> what i'm saying, please wait before a new build
[23:03:30] <brad_a> well im fine with that. i want to finish my TTF plugin before a new release anyhow :)
[23:07:36] <brad_a> wow i like that new G3 logo
[23:07:44] <brad_a> and the font
[23:08:10] <-- brad_a has left IRC (Quit: brad_a)
[23:09:53] <lynxlynxlynx> am i the only one that doesn't see a change, except for the 3 feathery things in the banner?
[23:18:48] <-- lynxlynxlynx has left IRC (Remote host closed the connection)
[23:48:02] --> joneirik has joined #gemrb
[23:51:22] --> brad_a has joined #gemrb
[23:53:14] <brad_a> tomprince: wouldnt it be better to move the check for slowBIFs to OpenArchive?
[23:53:19] <brad_a> unless im missing something
[23:53:36] <brad_a> since it just returns the file if slowBIF is off
[23:53:46] <brad_a> then you avoid a call to CacheStream
[23:56:05] <brad_a> plus i would expect a function called "CacheStream" to cache regardless of slowBIFs
