[17:15:21] <avenger> hello
[17:16:54] <avenger> i recently upgraded ubuntu, and got some problem with openal sound. The only way to squeeze sound from openal was either using aoss or padsp (forcing openal to use oss and direct it to alsa or pulseaudio)
[17:17:24] <avenger> the funny thing is: i have .alsoftrc configured as drivers=pulse, alsa, oss yet, i cannot have any sound without using the wrappers
[17:17:54] <tomprince> Do you have the pulseaudio openal drivers installed.
[17:18:12] <avenger> probably not, because i didn't know there are separate drivers
[17:18:21] <avenger> what is the package name?
[17:19:10] <tomprince> I don't know if there is, that was just a guess.
[17:19:16] <avenger> lol
[17:19:21] <avenger> and there goes my hope :(
[17:19:21] <tomprince> I don't use ubuntu here.
[17:19:44] <avenger> there shouldn't be any extra driver, openal is supposed to use pulseaudio natively
[17:19:47] <avenger> also, alsa
[17:20:08] <avenger> but as i said, it works only through oss, and rerouting the sound to alsa/pulse
[17:20:28] <avenger> i knw that i lost /dev/dsp (oss) recently, so it worked previously through oss
[17:20:59] <tomprince> You could try 'drivers=pulse'
[17:21:01] <avenger> i just wonder how others cope with this, i bet there are people with even less knowledge :D
[17:21:17] <avenger> tom: that was what i tried first
[17:21:27] <avenger> i tried all combination permutation whatever
[17:21:57] <avenger> it works only if i have oss in the list, and i use one of the wrappers
[17:22:26] <tomprince> What version of ubuntu?
[17:23:00] <avenger> hmm... 11.04 ?
[17:25:29] <avenger> 12.04
[17:25:35] <avenger> so, the newest shit
[17:26:15] <avenger> i had problems with firefox (freezing) so i hoped upping to the newest will solve it
[17:26:22] <avenger> of course not, i just got new issues
[17:26:52] <avenger> switched to chromium, that fixed the freezes, but i lost built in irc
[17:27:16] <avenger> i consider switching back to xp as main os :D
[17:28:45] <lynxlynxlynx> ubuntu hah
[17:29:58] <tomprince> Personally, I prefer gentoo, but that isn't for everyone. :)
[17:30:34] <tomprince> I'd probably be inclined to suggest debian (or maybe sidux) or fedora over ubuntu, though.
[17:30:39] <avenger> i'm not switching to an os requiring even more handywork :D
[17:30:48] <lynxlynxlynx> or opensuse
[17:30:48] <avenger> i meant gentoo
[17:31:02] <avenger> one day just to compile everything :D
[17:31:06] <tomprince> As I said, not for everyone. :)
[17:31:49] <avenger> btw, do you people use the flash plugin?
[17:31:56] <avenger> in firefox on linux?
[17:32:08] <tomprince> Yes.
[17:32:19] <avenger> never noticed freezes?
[17:32:33] <avenger> i know 2 ways to freeze it now :D
[17:32:46] <tomprince> Not recently, or commonly.
[17:32:54] <avenger> one works even on windows, but it isn't as lethal as on linux
[17:33:59] <avenger> this one: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/Pages/radeon_linux.aspx?type=2.4.1&product=22.214.171.124.42&lang=English
[17:34:20] <avenger> this one froze my firefox all the time on linux
[17:34:52] <avenger> the advert stuff in the top right corner
[17:35:37] <tomprince> Well, I'd not use the properietary amd drivers, on linux.
[17:35:46] --> Yoshimo has joined #gemrb
[17:49:06] <avenger> i have a graphics card and monitor that wouldn't work well without it (no fullscreen movies)
[17:49:40] <avenger> btw, just tested, even chromium freezes on that advert :)
[17:50:00] <avenger> it took the system 15 minutes to eat all memory and finally kill chromium
[17:51:34] <avenger> separate irc has some benefits, it seems
[17:54:37] <tomprince> Have you tried the recent oss drivers?
[17:55:19] <avenger> no, the last lts upgrade removed oss it seems
[17:55:26] <avenger> it deleted /dev/dsp
[17:55:57] <tomprince> I was refering to the video drivers.
[17:57:00] <avenger> well, i don't know, this lts worked without fullscreen movies (resolution was fine, etc)
[17:57:05] <avenger> that wasn't the case earlier
[17:57:22] <avenger> i didn't even realize first that i don't have the prop driver :)
[17:57:54] <avenger> so something must have been done
[17:58:01] <avenger> but it isn't enough
[18:00:38] <avenger> ah, also kde has at least two bugs in this version, had to disable blur and some other effect or it crashed all the time
[18:00:45] <avenger> lts my ass
[18:02:08] <avenger> you would think they test at least their default config, i sure didn't enable extra effects
[18:03:25] <avenger> anyway, from next month, i will have more time to spend with gemrb

[20:45:58] <lynxlynxlynx> i don't remember what the original did in this case, so i just decreased the frequency
[20:46:35] <decker^> it was a good idea, i need to learn more about bitwise comparisons
[20:48:04] <decker^> anyway, gotta get ready to go take my test so catch ya later
