[17:01:35] <brad_a> :( I seem to be stuck between non colorized 32bit text or 8bit colorized garbage
[17:04:45] <Yoshimo> 8bit colorized? that has to be really ugly^^
[17:05:14] <brad_a> its ugly because its random garbage instead of text
[17:05:33] <brad_a> the bam fonts are all 8-bit
[17:09:12] <brad_a> i need a few Tomes of Clear Thought to help me understand this pixely-palettey mess i have
[17:39:59] <brad_a> im stumped. anything other than a 32 bit surface yields garbage. the ttf sdl documentation says i should be getting an 8bit surface and when i debug i do see that it has bpp of 8, but unless i blit them to a 32 bit surface i get garbage. i dont understand :(
[18:04:31] <tomprince> how are you blitting them?
[18:45:16] <brad_a> i have tried many things, but basically create an 8bit software surface with the total width and height for all the glyphs then loop through the glyphs (already 8bit surfaces created by sdl ttf)
[18:46:40] <brad_a> oh and before blitting im setting the destination surface palette to one created by core->CreatePalette
[18:46:49] <brad_a> with white foreground and black background
[19:09:36] <brad_a> oh i think i should beusing SDL_setcolors instead of set_palette
[19:14:09] <brad_a> maybe i should be trying this with sdl 1.2 instead of 1.3
[19:22:17] <brad_a> F**k me! it works in SDL 1.2
[19:22:18] <brad_a> go figure
[19:23:55] <brad_a> unfortunately for me i really need this to work under sdl 1.3...
[20:22:53] --> edheldil_ has joined #gemrb
[20:56:52] <Yoshimo> it works in an older version and got broken in the newer ? strange
[21:09:55] <lynxlynxlynx> 1.3 is a radical change (not that it's released or polished yet)

[23:01:07] <tomprince> brad_a: are you using your one blitter, rather than the ones in SDLVideo?
[23:01:38] <tomprince> s/one/own/
[23:06:06] <tomprince> I also remember somebody mentioning sdl 1.3 being stricter about allowable pixel formats. Q: is sdl_ttf compatible with 1.3, or are you using a compatible version?
