[12:47:25] <brada> is it really that difficult to get a backtrace on windows?
[12:49:10] <fuzzie> uh
[12:49:20] <fuzzie> it depends
[12:49:42] <fuzzie> but generally, yes
[12:49:49] <fuzzie> unless you built the binary yourself
[12:49:51] <fuzzie> why? forums?
[12:49:55] <brada> the os doesnt produce it for you when something crashes?
[12:49:59] <brada> yes forums
[12:50:08] <fuzzie> yes, and it gives you a dialog saying "send to microsoft"
[12:50:47] <brada> but you cant look at the bt yourself?
[12:50:49] <fuzzie> and then you register your code signing key with microsoft, and then you can get the minidumps, which you can postprocess with your private pdb to get a backtrac
[12:50:52] <fuzzie> e
[12:51:31] <brada> bah even ios lets me easily get a BT
[12:52:02] <fuzzie> but, i mean, you can also just install a debugger.. :P
[12:52:09] <fuzzie> or hand over a minidump
[12:52:53] <fuzzie> but I think you're probably not looking at a user who is capable of these things
[12:53:11] <fuzzie> and I assume we don't have a Windows buildchain which is helpful for symbols anyway?
[12:58:33] <brada> yeah looking to guide a user
[12:58:40] <brada> i dont have windows
[12:58:45] <brada> nor do i have IWD2
[12:58:56] <brada> dont know about our windows buildbot
[12:59:08] <brada> is that tomprince?
[13:00:08] <fuzzie> well, visual c++ puts symbols in an external file (the .pdb), and gcc produces non-standard symbols
[13:02:42] <fuzzie> and you could get them to use something like ProcDump but then you have a minidump and it's not very helpful to you if you don't have Windows. :P
[13:04:14] <fuzzie> ( https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/How_to_get_a_backtrace_with_WinDbg is the way to do it if you have a .pdb I guess, without the unneeded SymChk bits, but I can't imagine you can walk a random user through that )
[13:08:00] <brada> no not likely. esp since i have never done it :p

[15:50:59] <brada> does anybody know how i can detect if widescreen mod is installed and at what resolution?
[15:53:13] <brada> ultimately what im trying to do is list the available resolutions for any given data set
[15:54:03] <psch> widescreen mod creates a .chu files in override, named cgui$X$Y.chu
[15:54:29] <psch> where $X is the two most significant digits of the width and $Y the two most significant digits of height
[15:54:43] <psch> not sure about multiple resolutions though
[15:58:07] <psch> no idea if that's helping heh
[16:02:42] <brada> 2 digits prolly isnt enough...
[16:03:36] <brada> is there any manifest file created to tell me what mods are installed?
[16:03:41] <brada> and with what options?
[16:03:42] <psch> the one on my tablet is called cgui8750.chu, for example
[16:06:10] <psch> weidu.log has a list of installed mods
[16:06:25] <psch> not with options though
[16:09:39] <brada> lousy 8 char limit :/
[16:10:07] <brada> making me use crappy heuristics
