[20:31:48] <Tanabi> Hello :)
[20:36:06] * Tanabi pokes wjp.
[21:59:00] <wjp> hm?
[21:59:16] <Tanabi> Oh just saying hello. :)
[21:59:22] <wjp> hi :-)
[21:59:25] <Tanabi> You part of the NU5 project? :)
[21:59:39] <wjp> hm, no
[22:00:02] <wjp> just an interested 3rd party as a developer on several other ultima remakes :-)
[22:00:32] <Tanabi> Ah okay. :) Yeah, I'm making my own U5 remake. Been working on it for about a week and already have the graphics engine and foundations for the game.
[22:04:15] <wjp> cool
[22:04:30] <wjp> is it or will it be open source and crossplatform? :-)
[22:05:12] <Tanabi> Crossplatform definitely. Open source, probably. Depends on how embarassed I am about the code, heh! ;D
[22:08:23] <wjp> hehe :-)
[22:08:49] <Tanabi> I've already made basically a map viewr
[22:08:51] <Tanabi> http://kingcheetah.tanabi.org/iolohut.gif
[22:09:11] <wjp> looks familiar :-)
[22:09:31] <Tanabi> Yeah, I thought it appropriate that the first screenshot of the project be that particular scene ;)
[22:09:32] <wjp> hm, which WM/theme is that?
[22:09:42] <Tanabi> Enlightenment, dreamworks theme
[22:10:25] <wjp> do you have a webpage or anything I can use to keep track of your project from time to time? :-)
[22:11:01] <Tanabi> Not yet. The more hype I put into it the less likely I'll finish it. ;) when I have something I want to release I'll make a webpage.
[22:11:18] <Tanabi> But I'll post to the XU4 and NU5 boards when I've got something.
[22:11:57] <wjp> ah, right, you posted on the nu5 forum a few days ago
[22:12:31] <Tanabi> Yah. Pretty dead forum unfortunately. I'm going to need some help figuring out some of these OVL files :/
[22:12:41] <wjp> ovl sounds like code
[22:13:14] <Tanabi> Yep, data overlays. I know what's in data.ovl, but there's a .ovl for each town/castle/etc. file too.
[22:13:26] <wjp> hm, I see
[22:14:02] <Tanabi> The OVLs have data like where the objects are in the map, what objects have been taken by the player, what objects regen, etc. I think. Probably also has shopkeep data too
[22:15:01] <Tanabi> OVLs also may have the NPC starting position ... for example Iolo's hut doesn't have Smith the horse in it, or the wishing well, that's probably both hidden in an OVL file somewhere. :)
[22:15:35] <wjp> npc.ovl? :-)
[22:15:58] <Tanabi> More than likely ;D
[22:16:31] <wjp> the start of npc.ovl looks like a typical x86 function start
[22:16:48] <wjp> (push bp; mov bp,sp; sub sp,0x2a; ...)
[22:17:49] <Tanabi> *grins* I know far too little about assembler to do this kinda thing. I'm definitely standing on the shoulders of giants when it comes to this project. :) All the info I know about the files has been through scouring the web.
[22:19:57] <wjp> from a quick look, most or all of npc.ovl is actual code
[22:23:18] <wjp> I should be going; good luck on your project
[22:23:20] <wjp> 'night
[22:23:24] <Tanabi> Thanks a lot. Se eya 'round.
