[03:02:32] --> Kirben has joined #nuvie
[03:07:57] --> Sheng_Gradilla has joined #nuvie
[03:08:03] <Sheng_Gradilla> good evening :)
[03:21:06] <SB-X> hello
[03:21:20] <Sheng_Gradilla> :)
[03:25:32] <Sheng_Gradilla> how are things going?
[03:38:34] <SB-X> fine
[03:38:54] <SB-X> i forgot to get a playtest item in a mud i playtested
[03:40:02] * SB-X shrugs.
[03:54:39] <Sheng_Gradilla> :P
[03:58:49] <Sheng_Gradilla> just downloaded nuvie from the CVS, and I get noise instead of music
[04:00:30] <Sheng_Gradilla> I get this message: assigning new song! 810e6f0
[04:03:01] <Sheng_Gradilla> tried again, it gives me a different code: 810e608
[04:07:26] <SB-X> there is a thread abotu music on the nuvie phorum
[04:07:26] <SB-X> I havn't tested it much
[04:08:10] <Sheng_Gradilla> godo
[04:08:12] <Sheng_Gradilla> good
[04:09:44] <Sheng_Gradilla> i'm using SBLive on Linux
[04:10:00] <Sheng_Gradilla> what's that ID supposed to mean?
[04:10:19] <Sheng_Gradilla> 810e6f0, 810e608, etc
[04:16:08] <SB-X> It is the address of a Song or Sample instance
[04:16:14] <SB-X> I guess
[04:17:12] <SB-X> Yes, a Sound actually
[04:17:54] <SB-X> it would be different each time, and isn't relevant to the noise
[04:55:20] <Sheng_Gradilla> I like specifying custom songs better :P
[04:55:29] <Sheng_Gradilla> just modified the code to do so :D
[04:58:53] <-- Kirben has left IRC (Read error: 54 (Connection reset by peer))
[05:00:29] --> Kirben has joined #nuvie
[05:09:37] <Sheng_Gradilla> nice, mouse control :)
[05:09:51] <Sheng_Gradilla> u7-style
[05:10:35] <Sheng_Gradilla> the only thing missing is using the single left-click as Look action instead of printing a message to the console :D
[05:20:53] <SB-X> yes
[05:21:08] <SB-X> the message on the console is like a placeholder for that
[05:21:21] <SB-X> or anything else we want to do with left-click
[05:22:01] <SB-X> where do you think it should print what you are looking at? on the msgscroll or on the map?
[05:22:48] <Sheng_Gradilla> that should be in the msgscroll, as in the original
[05:22:55] <Sheng_Gradilla> unless you want to change the interface
[05:24:16] <Sheng_Gradilla> in what comes to music, right now you could add an entry in the config file for setting the music as either original IBM PC or custom
[05:24:36] <Sheng_Gradilla> and do some minor modification to the sound manager
[05:25:05] <Sheng_Gradilla> tested ogg, midi and mikmod-supported modules already
[05:25:12] <Sheng_Gradilla> all work fine
[05:29:06] <Sheng_Gradilla> I am in the process of converting the U6 Amiga MODs to something mikmod can understand
[05:29:18] <Sheng_Gradilla> once I'm done I'll pack and upload them for you
[05:37:18] <SB-X> cool
[05:37:19] <SB-X> ok
[05:37:24] <Sheng_Gradilla> good, at last found a tracker that reads them
[05:37:37] <Sheng_Gradilla> done with stones
[05:37:45] <Sheng_Gradilla> going for the rest
[05:38:25] <SB-X> do they sound better than IBM PC music?
[05:40:02] <Sheng_Gradilla> they are MODs :P
[05:40:06] <Sheng_Gradilla> they sound different
[05:40:59] <Sheng_Gradilla> you could say they sound "as intended"
[05:41:12] <Sheng_Gradilla> the number of sound channels is limited, though
[05:41:30] <Sheng_Gradilla> two channels per side
[05:41:55] <Sheng_Gradilla> two sounds on the left speaker and another two on the right speaker
[05:52:06] <Sheng_Gradilla> uploading
[05:53:19] <Sheng_Gradilla> done
[05:53:21] <Sheng_Gradilla> http://art-shrine.verge-rpg.com/Files/u6amiga_xm.zip
[05:54:17] <Sheng_Gradilla> I gave them names according to the moments they are played
[05:54:44] <Sheng_Gradilla> they are fewer than IBM PC's, and some are used for more than one thing
[05:58:07] <SB-X> thanks
[05:58:13] <SB-X> amiga u6 doesn't have the others?
[05:58:28] <Sheng_Gradilla> nope
[05:59:06] <Sheng_Gradilla> they use rule britannia for sailing, and dungeon music for the main menu and combats, and character creation for gargoyle theme
[05:59:50] <Sheng_Gradilla> I never beat the game in the Amiga version, so I don't know what they use for endgame, but I suppose it's the rule britannia song
[06:02:55] <Sheng_Gradilla> the ultima theme song is played randomly during the game in the IBM PC version, and so is the dungeon music in the Amiga version, since that same song is used for theme song
[07:12:03] <Sheng_Gradilla> time to sleep
[07:12:05] <Sheng_Gradilla> good night

[07:38:36] --> Yuv422 has joined #nuvie
[07:51:11] <wjp> hi
[07:53:36] <Yuv422> hey wjp
[07:53:48] <Yuv422> any ideas on this music corruption issue?
[07:53:56] <Yuv422> could it be byte ordering?
[07:54:34] <wjp> well, it works properly for both of us, so probably not
[07:55:51] <Yuv422> maybe the sblive expects the audio in another format?
[07:58:41] <Yuv422> http://my.netian.com/~imjacky/cgame.htm
[08:00:30] <wjp> hm, you might have to check which audio format you got, yes
[08:01:27] <wjp> but it's also quite possible that SDL_mixer converts it automatically if it has to
[08:02:02] <Yuv422> you'd expect so
[08:07:34] <Yuv422> bbl
[08:19:09] --> armav has joined #nuvie
[08:20:15] <armav> i found something in the nuvie source that could be a bug
[08:21:34] <armav> nuvie calls SDL_Init twice, once in Screen.cpp and once in SoundManager.cpp
[08:22:28] <wjp> hm, yes, that's not good
[08:22:44] <armav> if i understand the sdl documentation correctly, you're supposed to call SDL_Init exactly once, and use SDL_InitSubSystem to initialize any other subsystems
[08:22:51] <wjp> yes
[08:43:24] --> SB-X has joined #nuvie
[08:46:29] <SB-X> hey eric
[08:46:49] <SB-X> see the u6 amiga music package?
[09:31:13] <-- armav has left IRC ("Client Exiting")
[11:02:42] <-- SB-X has left IRC ()
[11:25:35] <Yuv422> SB-X: Yeah
[11:26:05] <Yuv422> I'll have to fix the music code so we can run custom music again.
[11:26:46] <Yuv422> Looks like we should fix this SDL_Init issue
[11:55:34] <Yuv422> done
[12:17:30] <Yuv422> cya
