[12:46:10] <SB-X> Yuv422: you still around?
[12:46:21] <Yuv422> hey
[12:46:27] <SB-X> hey how's it going?
[12:46:34] <Yuv422> not bad. :-)
[12:46:42] <wjp> hi Yuv422, SB-X
[12:46:43] <Yuv422> how about yourself
[12:46:45] <SB-X> hi
[12:46:49] <Yuv422> hi wjp
[12:46:50] <SB-X> I just recently got back after installing Ubuntu.
[12:46:58] <SB-X> and setting things up
[12:47:31] <SB-X> had to back my data up first but it only took 1 dvd and some space on shared volumes
[12:48:02] <SB-X> still getting used to it, a debian based distro is new for me
[12:48:21] <SB-X> it's working well though
[12:48:21] <Yuv422> reinstalling OSes is always a hassle
[12:48:46] <Yuv422> I got an email from sourceforge today
[12:48:56] <SB-X> yeah, especially if you want to organize everything just right on your backup media
[12:48:59] <SB-X> ?
[12:48:59] <Yuv422> saying they are going to reorganise the cvs servers
[12:49:00] <wjp> looks like they're close to sorting things out
[12:49:24] <wjp> it was really a mess last month
[12:49:40] <Yuv422> any data loss?
[12:49:41] <SB-X> Oh that's interesting. Is that related to public CVS access?
[12:49:51] <SB-X> I havn't been keeping up with SF news.
[12:49:51] <Yuv422> or just access?
[12:50:04] <wjp> I think data loss was fairly minimal
[12:50:31] <wjp> IIRC, they said they'd contact project admins personally if a project suffered data loss
[12:50:55] <Yuv422> hehe what would you say
[12:51:08] <Yuv422> sorry but we lost all your cvs work
[12:51:28] <wjp> Yuv422: well, at most a couple of days, probably, since there are tarballs of the cvsroot
[12:51:41] <Yuv422> hehe yeah
[12:51:54] <Yuv422> they should be backing up there own data too I guess
[12:52:00] <Yuv422> their
[12:52:22] <wjp> SB-X: it's a rather long story; I think first the developer cvs machine failed, and they disabled anoncvs access while they were restoring things and making sure the data was ok
[12:53:10] <wjp> SB-X: the current plan is that there'll be a completely new cvs infrastructure in place within the next two days
[12:53:41] <SB-X> oh, that explains it
[12:53:47] <wjp> (much improved compared to the last one, with fewer single points of failure)
[12:53:54] <SB-X> thanks for the update
[12:54:00] <SB-X> is there any difference to the user
[12:54:09] <wjp> different server address
[12:54:16] <wjp> nuvie.cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/nuvie
[12:55:07] <wjp> so you'll have to run a sed script on the CVS/Root files in your working copy or re-checkout (once the new servers are up)
[12:55:55] <SB-X> ah ok
[12:56:42] <Yuv422> perl -pe -i
[12:56:46] <Yuv422> or some such
[12:56:56] <Yuv422> that's the only perl I use
[12:57:19] <Yuv422> but it's pretty handy for search and replace in multiple files
[12:59:06] <wjp> backups will change from tarballs to rsync access to the repository
[12:59:31] <wjp> so that means making regular backups will be much easier
[12:59:37] <wjp> (and cost far less bandwidth)
[13:01:18] <wjp> if you want I can set up a cron job here to make regular nuvie backups
[13:01:42] <wjp> already doing that for pentagram's subversion right now, and planning to add exult's cvs, so adding nuvie cvs won't be a problem
[13:02:36] <Yuv422> how often do you run backups?
[13:02:46] <wjp> pentagram every 48 hours at the moment
[13:04:18] <wjp> but cron jobs are very flexible :-)
[13:04:58] <Yuv422> hehe how about every 30seconds?
[13:05:18] <wjp> I don't think SF'll like that :-)
[13:06:19] <wjp> I figured that a days' (or two days') loss can be reconstructed using either commit log emails or a working copy fairly easily
[13:07:19] <Yuv422> yeah
