[14:02:25] <luteijn> tried the update, already got most of the incompatibilities out of my client.
[14:03:46] <luteijn> had a short talk with Galleon, got updated basetile map file from him (turned out to be exactly same format I used, so could drop in replace it)
[14:04:32] <luteijn> music playing is not really useful (slow, no proper note length control due to jitter)
[14:06:07] <luteijn> the extra level in the castle is nice; worked fine in my client too.
[14:07:00] <sbx> the music playing is a fluff feature so I'm not going to complain about it
[14:07:11] <sbx> but just changing the song when playing them would be better
[14:08:16] <luteijn> would be easy enough to do, as it sends a 'now playing the <instrument>' message. You could just interpret that as a change tune message instead.
[14:09:34] <luteijn> the update doesn't really bring many improvements. More sounds, control over sound levels, but I don't use sound as it annoys people around me ;)
[14:10:51] <luteijn> perhaps the pathfinding improvement was worth it (sends absolute coordinates, instead of relative ones)

[14:12:30] <luteijn> They still haven't solved all the lag issues, and are thinking of using something they call a 'bitstream'
[14:13:22] <luteijn> I have no idea wha that will be like, but I think the lag could well be improved by better server code; there's not that much data to send after all
[14:14:03] <sbx> The bitstream protocol has been planned for a while. Couldn't hurt.
[14:14:22] <sbx> As you said, they send some unecessary data in messages sometimes.
[14:14:24] <luteijn> My client already did some emote stuff, which I had to fix to work with the new system. I have no idea what is meant by bitstream. do you?

[14:17:13] <sbx> Doesn't it mean where they will use a flag of bits in the header to tell what is in the partial message (like they do with world updates), and then only send as many bits as are necessary to complete a field. (depending on payload type) We already discussed it.

[14:18:57] <luteijn> with my client it already keeps the select cursor over the npc; it would be easy enough for their client to remember the last selection too, and move the mouse back there. problem is that you still ahve to click, can't select with the keyboard..
