[13:08:26] <-- Kirben has left IRC ()
[15:24:13] --> Dominus has joined #nuvie
[15:25:06] <Dominus> yuv422, definitely needs higher resolutions than 320x200. the last one is a bit big though :)
[15:25:20] <wjp> :-)
[15:25:57] <wjp> the grass gets a bit annoying at that size
[15:42:54] <Dominus> yes
[15:43:04] <Dominus> as well as the sea shapes
[15:45:07] <Dominus> as we've discussed the other day, an option to lower the color brightness would be nice, perhaps even only for those shapes :)
[15:45:20] <Dominus> red dirt and green grass
[18:06:02] <servus> I wonder how hard it'd be to make a bitmap for each tile that determines whether each pixel is opaque. You could use that for Diablo 2-style light casting, as well as an eventual free-walking ability (so that you aren't confined to the middle of tiles)... Just a thought :)
[18:06:39] <servus> Maybe if I get some free time later, I'll play with that. Could be fun. Now to find some free time...
[18:21:32] <servus> Kal Vas Segfault! And back to work I go :)
[21:23:39] --> Yuv422 has joined #nuvie
[21:26:21] <Yuv422> playing at that large size does have one advantage
[21:26:57] <Yuv422> you can see how (normally) offscreen actors behave when the party walks down the road
[21:44:49] <Dominus> he he
[21:55:25] <Yuv422> just looking at the xu4 file section on sourceforge
[21:55:40] <Yuv422> and it is telling me that 0.7 is the latest download for my platform
[21:55:48] <Yuv422> does it go by upload time
[21:57:32] <Yuv422> hmm actually it does seem to be the last mac binary
[22:01:30] <Dominus> oh, yes, it's the last official release that DIDN'T include the zipped original game
[22:02:12] <Dominus> after EA apparently made some stink about everyone and their dog offering u4 for download we (actually *I*) purged the releases that included it
[22:02:26] <Yuv422> right
[22:02:51] <Dominus> I still have them on file, I think if you wanted an old release for some purpose
[22:03:43] <Yuv422> I was just curious as to how SF worked out which file I should download
[22:05:39] <Dominus> ok, yeah, it just offers the latest for your OS which it determines from your browser
[22:05:56] <Dominus> testing out release stuff?
[22:07:07] <Yuv422> yeah just getting a feel for how people structure their releases
[22:07:09] <Yuv422> :-)
[22:07:38] <Yuv422> I'm just working through the background stuff for the 0.1 release
[22:08:05] <Yuv422> writing the news article, updating the download page, creating the download folders on SF.net
[22:08:07] <Yuv422> etc
[22:09:26] <Dominus> check the readme (and if you didn'T already include the normal readme in your OS X dmg)
[22:09:51] <Yuv422> yeah I noticed that it was missing the other day
[22:10:01] <Dominus> I mean check whether the readme needs some love (it probably does, the FM Towns things need mentioning)
[22:10:02] <Yuv422> thanks for reminding me
[22:10:10] <Yuv422> yeah
[22:10:21] <Yuv422> it hasn't been touched in along while
[22:12:56] <Dominus> make sure you checck all the copyright items that show
[22:13:18] <Yuv422> yeah
[22:13:53] <Yuv422> I also want to embed the version info into the binaries
[22:14:09] <Yuv422> including svn revision number
[22:14:26] <Yuv422> but that means invoking svn commands from the biuld scripts
[22:15:03] <Dominus> just checked your osx snapshot. You include a lengthy path to your savegame place in the Resources
[22:16:52] <Yuv422> hehe
[22:17:17] <Yuv422> that must have slipped in when I was fixing a bug with the savegame directory not being created
[22:17:20] <Yuv422> properly
[22:18:16] <Yuv422> that shouldn't be there at all.
[22:19:30] <Yuv422> actually how is that getting in there
[22:19:54] <Dominus> as for the SVN revision, I *think* there is a way for SVN writing the revision number someplace. Not sure though. You could include that file then somehow. For Exult we have a manual edited version header somewhere, in which we only write *our* version number, and whether it is SVN
[22:20:34] <Yuv422> hmm that might be the way to go initially
[22:21:11] <Yuv422> ahh the path got there because I ran that executable in place
[22:21:27] <Yuv422> and it incorrectly created the directories from the current working dir
[22:21:39] <Yuv422> which is the resource directory
[22:23:36] <Dominus> :)
[22:29:00] <Yuv422> ok I've updated the snapshot
[22:29:09] <Yuv422> without my bogus save dir
[22:29:15] <Yuv422> and including the current readme
[22:34:54] <Dominus> ouch the readme is really outdated :)
[22:41:41] <Dominus> need to sleep
[22:41:45] <Dominus> bye
[22:41:48] <Yuv422> cya
