[12:05:18] <sb-x> hello
[12:21:06] <Yuv422> hey
[12:21:12] <Yuv422> How’s it going?
[12:32:47] --> xbs has joined #nuvie
[12:37:40] <sb-x> oh, my laptop had irc running too
[12:37:43] <sb-x> not bad
[12:37:54] <sb-x> i always catch you late at night there in australia :)
[12:38:41] <Yuv422> hehe yeah
[12:38:55] <Yuv422> that’s the trouble with being half a world away :)
[12:39:12] <sb-x> we need moongates for easier collaboration
[12:39:23] <sb-x> have you seen CRPG addict's blog?
[12:41:52] <Yuv422> I haven’t seen it
[12:41:55] <Yuv422> is it good?
[12:42:20] <sb-x> yes. i've been reading it lately. he has a goal of playing every CRPG ever released
[12:42:35] <sb-x> and writes about them in detail. Ultima VI was one of his favorite games
[12:42:44] <sb-x> so I enjoyed reading his experiences with that
[12:42:57] <sb-x> he also played Savage Empire but didnt enjoy it as much. He will play Martian Dreams soon
[12:43:27] <Yuv422> cool
[12:43:35] <Yuv422> that’s quite a challenge
[12:43:54] <Yuv422> speaking about MD
[12:43:57] <sb-x> yes he plays them in order :)
[12:44:03] <Yuv422> I’m just working on actor sit logic
[12:45:45] <sb-x> excellent, is it the same as U6?
[12:45:57] <sb-x> change to sit frame based on object underneath
[12:46:05] <Yuv422> yeah
[12:47:34] <sb-x> great, i dont consider nuvie playable if you can't sit
[12:48:21] <Yuv422> :)
[12:49:08] <sb-x> do you know much about OriginFX?
[12:49:58] <Yuv422> I’ve done a fair bit of reversing of the midi music format
[12:50:07] <Yuv422> to get music working in MD/SE
[12:50:22] <Yuv422> I’ve still got a bit to do though
[12:50:33] <Yuv422> I’ve also got to do the SE end sequence
[12:50:44] <Yuv422> but I’m leaving that until I play through the game in dosbox
[12:50:56] <Yuv422> I don’t want to spoil it for myself
[12:51:45] <sb-x> oh nice. i saw a wiki article on it; didn't realize it was an animation technology that origin had branded, distinct from the games (through U7)
[12:52:23] <sb-x> seen the logo on all the games of course but didnt know what it meant until the other day
[12:52:33] <Yuv422> I think it was just marketing spin
[12:53:43] <sb-x> yeah probably. is the logic in the LUA intro scripts very different from how the original animations worked?
[12:54:08] <sb-x> if so, it's remarkable how similiar the animations in nuvie are
[12:59:01] <sb-x> and were any animation "scripts" ever found in data files or is it all in the exe?
[13:00:09] <Yuv422> the animation was hardcoded into the md exe
[13:00:19] <Yuv422> I just reversed it
[13:00:27] <Yuv422> and replayed the logic in script
[13:00:50] <sb-x> cool! i was wondering why some of the code looks "low-level"
[13:00:52] <Yuv422> it was just playing around with sprites from the data files
[13:00:58] <sb-x> oh
[13:01:19] <Yuv422> once I had worked out the display sprite function
[13:01:30] <Yuv422> it was pretty easy to reverse the animations
[13:01:51] <sb-x> that is really awesome though
[13:03:15] <sb-x> one example of appearing "low-level" would be lots of hex values where decimal would make as much sense. but i thought that could also just be your coding style :)
[13:03:27] <Yuv422> hehe
[13:03:43] <Yuv422> yeah that was lifted straight from IDA
[13:03:55] <Yuv422> whic shows everything in hex by default
[13:04:27] <sb-x> oh! also the lightning in the u6 intro looks fine to me (there's a note in the script that says FIXME do lightning here)
[13:04:46] <sb-x> oh yeah i remember you showing me IDA a while back
[13:06:21] <Yuv422> some of the fixmes might be a little out of date.
[13:06:45] <Yuv422> or maybe there is a difference but it’s hard to see unless you are really comparing side by side
[13:07:29] <sb-x> oh ok, perhaps a detailed frame by frame analysis is still needed
[13:08:33] <sb-x> but lets get chairs working first
[13:08:48] <Yuv422> I’m off to bed now
[13:08:54] <Yuv422> more chairs tomorrow
[13:09:01] <Yuv422> cya
[13:09:39] <sb-x> cya!
