[05:05:12] --> Yuv422 has joined #nuvie
[05:05:28] <Yuv422> hi
[05:11:29] <sbx> hello!
[05:11:37] <Yuv422> hey sbx
[05:12:23] <sbx> im watching a replay of iron chef america battali vs morimoto
[05:12:57] <Yuv422> cool
[05:13:09] <Yuv422> is it subtitled?
[05:13:12] <Yuv422> or dubbed?
[05:17:34] <sbx> neither it's in english
[05:17:48] <sbx> but some things morimoto says is subbed
[09:09:03] * sbx eats cheese.
[09:21:31] <sbx> Yuv422: GuJiaXian is nudging you for an update
[09:23:45] <sbx> next i want to work on time advance, sleeping at inns, and camping
[09:26:31] <sbx> maybe change party movement a bit
[09:26:33] <sbx> ill bbl
[09:26:39] <-- sbx has left IRC ()
[12:42:29] --> sbx|afk has joined #nuvie
[12:43:00] --- sbx|afk is now known as sbx
[12:43:28] <sbx> im back
[13:06:07] <Yuv422> wb
[13:06:22] <Yuv422> I'm writing a site update now
[13:11:02] <sbx> ty
[13:11:03] <sbx> okay
[13:11:10] <sbx> what did you/are you going to say
[13:12:09] <Yuv422> saving and your tile effects
[13:12:22] <Yuv422> and what we are going to work on next
[13:14:59] <sbx> what else did we do
[13:15:07] <Yuv422> bug fixes
[13:15:14] <Yuv422> GUI tweaks
[13:15:38] <sbx> gui borders
[13:15:44] <Yuv422> ah yes
[13:15:45] <sbx> more usecode
[13:17:01] <sbx> adplug player?
[13:17:08] <sbx> oh just renamed
[13:17:16] * sbx was looking at the cvs messages.
[13:17:45] <Yuv422> yeah I look at the ChangeLog to write the updates
[13:17:53] <sbx> Oh you're ahead of me :)
[13:18:25] <sbx> I still want to fix some issues with using objects from inventory
[13:19:05] <Yuv422> I want to make the game more newbie friendly to setup
[13:19:24] <Yuv422> maybe we could print some error messages to the graphical screen
[13:19:30] <Yuv422> instead of stdout
[13:20:01] <Yuv422> I've got to finish off the save manager first
[13:20:11] <sbx> heh
[13:20:13] <Yuv422> we need to add save descriptions. ;)
[13:20:36] <sbx> I'm hoping in the future we will have auto-setup on first usage
[13:20:45] <sbx> but that wont be until after start menus are implemented
[13:21:25] <sbx> so it will create the nuvie.cfg for you (possibly copying from the sample), if it doesn't exist
[13:21:34] <sbx> and prompt you for paths
[13:21:39] <Yuv422> yeah sound nice
[13:21:53] <Yuv422> we could even make a file selection dialog?
[13:22:59] <sbx> yeah if you want to
[13:24:40] <Yuv422> how does this sound
[13:24:53] <Yuv422> as a description of what we are planning to do next
[13:25:08] <Yuv422> <b>What's Next?</b>
[13:25:08] <Yuv422> Some more work needs to be done on the save system. After that we'll be looking
[13:25:08] <Yuv422> at combat, time advance, sleeping at inns, and camping
[13:26:29] <sbx> you can leave off the time advance
[13:26:41] <sbx> thats basically just an engine requirement for camping
[13:26:47] <Yuv422> yeah
[13:27:09] <sbx> ...and resurrecting the avatar
[13:27:52] <Yuv422> sleeping at inns, camping and resurrecting the avatar
[13:28:02] <sbx> well you cant die yet
[13:28:14] <sbx> not "officially"
[13:28:15] <sbx> so that would be a part of combat
[13:28:18] <Yuv422> that will go in with combat
[13:28:22] <Yuv422> :)
[13:30:48] <sbx> Sony VAIO is also a desktop PC brand
[13:30:57] * sbx is shopping.
[13:31:06] <Yuv422> ah k
[13:31:13] <Yuv422> I have a VAIO
[13:31:39] <sbx> notebook?
[13:31:43] <Yuv422> yes
[13:31:48] <Yuv422> it is very small
[13:32:01] <Yuv422> about 900 grams
[13:32:55] <sbx> but fast? :)
[13:33:04] <sbx> the Toshiba Satellite is 7lb
[13:33:51] <Yuv422> nah it's only about 600MHz from memory
[13:36:34] <sbx> oh
[13:36:37] <sbx> what are you using now?
[13:36:45] <sbx> i thought you meant your current one
[13:39:32] <Yuv422> I'm currently using my G4 Powermac
[13:39:37] <Yuv422> 867MHz
[13:40:27] <sbx> After getting the new computer I'll continue testing Nuvie on this one to make sure it stays fast.
[13:40:43] <Yuv422> sounds good
[13:40:53] <Yuv422> I should test nuvie on a slower computer too
[13:41:07] <Yuv422> I have an old 200MHz machine I can test on
[13:41:13] <sbx> oh really
[13:41:16] <sbx> what do you have installed on it?
[13:41:22] <Yuv422> slackware
[13:41:24] <wjp> I recently tested pentagram on a quad opteron machine :-)
[13:41:32] <Yuv422> cool
[13:41:54] <Yuv422> is it multi-threaded?
[13:42:13] <Yuv422> I guess the audio would be if you are using SDLMixer
[13:42:13] <wjp> no (unless you're counting any internal SDL threads)
[13:42:27] <Yuv422> ah k
[13:42:49] <Yuv422> http://nuvie.sourceforge.net/temp/test.html
[13:42:59] <Yuv422> how does that sound?
[13:43:10] <wjp> image is broken
[13:43:18] <Yuv422> yeah
[13:43:43] <wjp> did U6 only have a single save?
[13:43:51] <Yuv422> it is pointing to the location relative to where the real news will go
[13:43:53] <Yuv422> yes
[13:43:58] <Yuv422> only one savegame :(
[13:44:27] <Yuv422> you had to copy your savegame directory to get multiple savegames happening
[13:45:25] <wjp> news item sounds good
[13:46:18] <sbx> you left the resurrecting part in
[13:46:28] <sbx> but its nice overall
[13:46:30] <sbx> nice to have new news
[13:46:39] <Yuv422> didn't you want me to add that part?
[13:47:12] <sbx> not really
[13:47:26] <Yuv422> ok I'll take it out
[13:47:26] <sbx> but if you want more things listed i dont mind
[13:49:22] <Yuv422> ok I've taken it out
[13:49:28] <Yuv422> time to commit to cvs
[13:50:39] <sbx> is 2.8GHz celeron considered too slow these days?
[13:50:54] <Yuv422> hmm not sure
[13:50:58] <wjp> too slow for what?
[13:51:52] <sbx> hmm
[13:52:01] <sbx> wjp: well not doom3...
[13:52:26] <sbx> but say most new games
[13:52:53] <Yuv422> I think your choice of gfx card makes more difference these days
[13:54:19] <sbx> yeah... in fact I can't think of any new games I want to play :p
[13:55:28] <wjp> last 'new' game I played was NWN (and expansions)
[13:55:51] <wjp> I also bought Broken Sword 3, but haven't played that yet
[14:00:49] <sbx> you enjoy NWN? is it anything like ultima?
[14:02:01] <wjp> hm, it's probably not really like ultima, but I did enjoy it a lot
[14:03:00] <wjp> it also helped that it runs natively in linux :-)
[14:03:53] <Yuv422> hmm the web cvs update script doesn't seem to be running.
[14:03:58] <Yuv422> :(
[14:04:40] <Yuv422> and I can't update as I don't have privileges to the news directory
[14:06:24] <wjp> there are ways around that of course... :-)
[14:06:40] <wjp> which web cvs update script is that, btw?
[14:06:40] <Yuv422> how so?
[14:07:12] <Yuv422> laxdragon has/had a cron script that ran cvs up on the htdocs directory
[14:07:42] <Yuv422> our htdocs directory is basically a cvs sandbox
[14:07:53] <wjp> yeah, so are exult's/pentagram's
[14:08:06] <wjp> we have a simple update.sh script there we call manually
[14:08:17] <wjp> it does a cvs update and makes everything group writable
[14:08:31] <Yuv422> that's our problem
[14:08:37] <Yuv422> nothing is group writable. :(
[14:09:06] <wjp> well, it's fairly easy to fix that for the news dir
[14:09:13] <wjp> it'll just leave an old news directory lying around
[14:09:34] <wjp> (move away the old one and create a new news dir)
[14:09:56] <Yuv422> ah k
[14:10:49] <sbx> What is a cvs sandbox?
[14:12:53] <Yuv422> hehe the update script just worked
[14:13:05] <Yuv422> while I had the directory moved
[14:13:20] <Yuv422> so now I have three news directories. ;)
[14:13:34] <wjp> :-)
[14:13:45] <wjp> how often does that script run?
[14:13:59] <Yuv422> I thought it was every 5 min
[14:14:05] <Yuv422> but maybe it is longer
[14:14:13] <wjp> isn't that a waste of resources?
[14:14:31] <Yuv422> yeah
[14:14:42] <Yuv422> maybe we should just call it manually
[14:16:27] <wjp> don't forget to make the news dir group writable now :-)
[14:16:46] <wjp> (along with the files and subdirs)
[14:17:09] <Yuv422> chmod -R g+w news
[14:17:23] * wjp nods
[14:18:24] <Yuv422> ok the site update should be visible now
[14:18:40] <sbx> looks nice
[14:23:05] <sbx> why are our full screenshots the same size as the previews?
[14:23:13] <Yuv422> hehe
[14:23:15] <sbx> ...but actually different images
[14:23:39] <Yuv422> we could show a scaled images for the full size I guess
[14:24:11] <sbx> do you play at 1x scale?
[14:24:13] <sbx> usually
[14:24:20] <Yuv422> yes
[14:24:25] <sbx> i use the point scaler 2x
[14:24:31] <Yuv422> or or point x2
[14:25:00] <sbx> it would also be good if we could caption these on the screenshots page
[14:25:32] <Yuv422> we really need some new screenshots
[14:25:41] <Yuv422> those are a bit primative now
[14:26:33] <sbx> we shouldn't replace these; rather archive the oldest ones in a different category
[14:28:42] <Yuv422> true
[14:29:03] <Yuv422> but for that we'd need an image category system ;-)
[14:29:30] <sbx> ... you have a point there
[14:34:01] <Yuv422> ok I
[14:34:08] <Yuv422> I'm off to bed now
[14:34:12] <sbx> cya
[14:34:14] <Yuv422> cya guys
