[09:56:23] --> Yuv422 has joined #nuvie
[10:25:31] <SB-X> Hi, Eric.
[10:36:06] <Yuv422> hey
[10:36:13] <Yuv422> how's it going?
[10:36:50] <Yuv422> brb
[10:44:47] <SB-X> not bad
[10:44:49] <SB-X> ok
[10:45:17] <SB-X> working on nuvie again
[10:46:06] <SB-X> I'll have an update soon. (but I'm not going to update the website)
[11:05:37] <Yuv422> back
[11:05:48] <Yuv422> yeah I was just reading the forum
[11:06:31] <Yuv422> I was thinking of writing a little app to extract the SE portrait data
[11:06:38] <Yuv422> for that guy on the exult forum
[11:14:40] <SB-X> if you mean the post luteijn answered, i'm sure he will find it useful
[11:14:50] <Yuv422> yeah
[11:16:31] <SB-X> What have you been up to?
[11:16:49] <SB-X> anything interesting? :)
[11:16:50] <Yuv422> not too much really
[11:17:31] <Yuv422> haven't been using my home machine much
[11:18:07] <SB-X> oh, busy at work?
[11:18:09] <Yuv422> have you got the latest SDL
[11:18:10] <SB-X> the mac or the pc?
[11:18:12] <SB-X> no
[11:18:16] <Yuv422> hehe both
[11:19:33] <Yuv422> I really need to clean out my HD
[11:19:43] <Yuv422> I'm really running out of space
[11:21:58] <SB-X> same here, every month or two
[11:22:15] <SB-X> then I just delete random crap lying around, or uninstall games, or move things to cd
[11:22:36] <SB-X> and that always clears out a lot of space
[11:22:47] <Yuv422> hehe
[11:24:24] <Yuv422> do you think we should put a nuvie is dead message on the webpage freedos style?
[11:24:32] <Yuv422> it seemed to work for them.
[11:24:48] <SB-X> Surprisingly, because I frequently fail to realize how many unplayed games I have installed. (or unsorted files)
[11:25:01] <SB-X> i don't know the reference
[11:25:10] <SB-X> tell me abouit it
[11:25:11] <SB-X> about*
[11:25:51] <Yuv422> http://os.newsforge.com/os/06/07/03/148241.shtml?tid=16
[11:26:13] <Yuv422> as a joke the main developer put a freedos is dead message on the website
[11:26:41] <Yuv422> people thought it was true and all volunteered help for the project
[11:26:46] <Yuv422> kickstarting it again
[11:29:14] <SB-X> Haha, it actually worked. That's great.
[11:30:17] <Yuv422> :)
[11:31:01] <SB-X> I like the idea, but I'm afraid everyone would actually believe it about Nuvie, and not be surprised. :)
[11:31:09] <SB-X> or, many people
[11:31:17] <Yuv422> hehe yeah
[11:31:23] <Yuv422> we'll get there
[11:31:28] <Yuv422> we're not in any hurry
[11:33:51] <SB-X> i wouldn't mind hurrying ...
[11:34:27] <SB-X> it's just that my free time lately was spent on half-life 2, and more recently wikipedia
[11:34:51] <Yuv422> wikipedia is addictive
[11:37:50] <SB-X> Yeah, it can take some time. Oh, and reading wikipedia articles about half-life 2.
[11:38:15] <Yuv422> did you know that there is a link to nuvie in the wikipedia
[11:38:31] <SB-X> Not to mention editing them and asking questions & reading discussions on Talk pages.
[11:38:42] <SB-X> No, but now that you mention it I'm not surprised.
[11:38:58] <Yuv422> we should write a full entry
[11:39:00] <SB-X> There isn't an article but it could be linked from the Exult or Ultima VI page.
[11:39:01] <Yuv422> like exult
[11:39:12] <SB-X> I'm sure someone will.
[11:39:16] <Yuv422> :)
[11:39:54] <SB-X> The Exult article was written by people who visit the Exult forum.
[11:40:21] <Yuv422> dom?
[11:41:47] <SB-X> Dominus? no
[11:42:31] <Yuv422> ah k
[11:42:45] <Yuv422> what happened to the SE thread in the exult forum?
[11:46:07] <SB-X> http://exult.sourceforge.net/forum/read.php?f=1&i=31350&t=31350
[11:46:16] <SB-X> that's the newest one
[11:47:02] <Yuv422> ah I was looking for savage or se in the title
[11:52:48] <SB-X> the earlier post about it is here http://exult.sourceforge.net/forum/read.php?f=1&i=30601&t=30601
[12:01:07] <Yuv422> U6Lib_n doesn't handle the new MD SE libs does it?
[12:01:22] <Yuv422> which have a 3 byte offset with a flag byte
[12:02:04] <Yuv422> actually it looks like it does
[12:02:47] <Yuv422> excellent
[12:04:50] <SB-X> cool
[12:05:18] <Yuv422> I've been programming in C# all week at work
[12:05:33] <Yuv422> it's a bit weird going back to C++
[12:06:39] <SB-X> I thought they were fairly similiar.
[12:06:45] <Yuv422> they are
[12:06:58] <Yuv422> but it's the little things
[12:07:53] <SB-X> I'm afraid I only know about the try-except statements, which are also usable in Microsoft C++. I don't know any more C# than that.
[12:08:17] <SB-X> and try-finally
[12:08:42] <Yuv422> good old exception programming
[12:24:11] <Yuv422> hmm I don't think the portraits are 4444x9 pixels
[12:35:39] <Yuv422> hmm there was a bug in U6Shape
[12:35:50] <Yuv422> well it wasn't handling SE shapes properly
[12:36:14] <Yuv422> they have a filesize then offset to start of data
[12:36:30] <Yuv422> so I needed to shift the data by 8 bytes
[12:42:51] <SB-X> the shapes themselves have a filesize?
[12:43:03] <SB-X> who said it was 4444x9 pixels?
[12:43:13] <Yuv422> well I guess you'd call it datasize
[12:43:16] <Yuv422> I did
[12:43:22] <Yuv422> well me little app did
[12:43:22] <SB-X> oh
[12:43:25] <SB-X> hehe
[12:43:33] <Yuv422> because of the bug in U6Shape
[12:43:59] <SB-X> is it a bug?
[12:44:08] <SB-X> maybe we need an SEShape
[12:44:59] <Yuv422> yeah it's probably not a bug but just an SE MD speciality.
[12:45:21] <Yuv422> I'll need to check the original u6 intro shapes first
[12:46:14] <SB-X> U6Edit handles those quite well.
[13:04:47] <-- Kirben has left IRC (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))
[13:23:16] <Yuv422> yay I have a portrait in bmp format
[13:25:36] <Yuv422> http://nuvie.sourceforge.net/temp/test.bmp
[13:27:16] <SB-X> cool
[13:27:48] <Yuv422> SDL_SaveBMP() is a neat function
[13:28:01] <Yuv422> it makes saving gfx easy
[13:28:46] <SB-X> yeah
[13:29:04] <SB-X> I believe I used it to save an image of the U6 palette to a BMP.
[13:29:26] <SB-X> in Nuvie
[13:30:24] <Yuv422> yeah that would be handy
[13:32:44] <Yuv422> time for bed
[13:32:50] <SB-X> alright
[13:32:50] <SB-X> cya
[13:32:53] <Yuv422> cya
