[00:11:22] <Colourless> hehe
[00:12:21] <Colourless> since we understand so much of the game engine, we do sort of have the ability to very easily hack the usecode
[00:12:21] <wjp> one of the holes you can't easily fall down, but it does leave dirty pixels just behind the cave wall there
[00:14:01] <wjp> one of the others I did just fall through in the original
[00:16:33] <wjp> for the logs, this is the code to teleport:
[00:16:35] <wjp> 0A 01 4F 10 00 01 0A 01 0A 3E 0A 30 0B BF 16 0B A7 3F 6F F8 0F 0C 9E 00 50 7A
[00:16:58] <wjp> takes you to map 0x3E, Z=0x30, Y=0x16BF, X=0x3FA7
[00:17:52] <wjp> the first couple of bytes set the 'getup' global flag. Not doing that makes the AVATAR::cachein function put you in stasis right after the teleport
[00:20:32] <wjp> double-checked the missing cave wall in the original as well
[00:20:47] <wjp> somebody has been really sloppy with creating that area :-)
[00:22:02] <wjp> Colourless: do you remember the exact location of the hole in the floor near the sorcerors you mentioned?
[00:25:02] <wjp> oh, found one
[00:25:38] <wjp> lava river map (after carthax lake) to the west of the exit to Daemon's Crag
[00:26:09] <Colourless> there is one on the demons crag map itself
[00:26:39] <Colourless> it's a little to the left of the road/cave where you first enter the map from lava river
[00:27:26] <Colourless> the tile though is only about 8 units low so you don't fall though it, you step down
[00:28:22] <wjp> there are quite a few elevation differences west of the entrance
[00:28:28] <wjp> tiles at 48, 56 and 64
[00:29:49] <wjp> it indeed doesn't show visually, though
[00:30:21] <Colourless> noticed them when i was working on the shape display order code
[00:30:36] <Colourless> doing a 'step by step' rendering showed a strange rendering order
[00:30:44] <Colourless> which was because of the different heights
[00:31:15] <Colourless> anyway i'm heading off now.
[00:31:37] * wjp looks at time; hm, me too :-)
[00:31:39] <wjp> bye
[00:31:42] <Colourless> night :-)
[00:31:46] <-- Colourless has left IRC ("casts improved invisibility")
[01:17:52] --> SB-X has joined #pentagram
[05:32:23] --> watt has joined #pentagram
[05:32:40] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to watt
[05:33:13] <watt> howdy, folks. Looks like we've had some commits lately ;-)
[05:34:02] <watt> Thinking I'll try to do some joystick handling on sunday and a bit of work on the console.
[05:36:32] <watt> Just one thing. I'd imagine we might want the joystick to move the cursor... would we want it to warp the cursor position (sends a mouse motion event) or would we want to start managing the cursor directly... which would mean we would not be able to simply move the cursor out of the window when focusing on a different app.
[05:37:20] <SB-X> hi megawatt
[05:37:26] <watt> hiya!
[05:37:43] <SB-X> long time no see
[05:38:09] <SB-X> joystick handling suddenly interests me now that I have my dualshock2 controller hooked up to the PC :)
[05:38:20] <watt> eh... I've been on the windows side MMORPG'ing quite a bit.
[05:38:38] <watt> given in to the dark side
[05:38:56] <SB-X> lol
[05:39:17] <SB-X> well i havnt seen you or anyone on irc in a while because I've been too busy to come on irc at all :)
[05:39:26] <SB-X> until recently
[05:39:38] <SB-X> and a while is a couple months
[05:39:52] <SB-X> i had a lot of threads to read on the exult forum
[05:40:17] <SB-X> and just learned about those two mods, The Feudal Lands and Keyring
[05:40:28] <watt> I've been reading up on axis handling in SDL... much simplier than I previously thought it might have been. I should have added that part long ago.
[05:40:39] <watt> I heard on the keyring one.
[05:40:50] <watt> not familiar with the other
[05:40:51] <SB-X> havnt tried either of them yet
[05:41:01] <watt> nor have I.
[05:41:06] <SB-X> but I will when I get a chance to
[05:41:22] <SB-X> the feudal lands brings the sundered continents back together
[05:41:26] <SB-X> including serpent isle
[05:41:37] <SB-X> he'll need support for more NPCs in exult first
[05:42:11] <SB-X> will you be supporting analog joystick control?
[05:42:21] <SB-X> for different movement speeds
[05:42:36] <watt> well, hopefully.
[05:43:04] <watt> I'd imagine moving the mouse cursor would be the first step.
[05:44:09] <watt> no need to start creating a separate AvatarMoverProcess.... there's a lot of logic there already and part of my problem in the past has been attempting too large of features all at one.
[05:44:15] <watt> s/one/once
[05:45:40] <watt> I did have a keybinding based mover at one point, but it did not play nicely with the other mover process... they continuously fought for control of the Avatar.
[05:58:43] <watt> Looking at Feudal Lands screenies.... that's a lot of dead gargoyles... "Avatar, is the virtuous?" "Of course it is. Now keep keep firing, a$$holes."
[05:58:59] <watt> s/keep keep/keep/
[06:00:53] <watt> ok.. well, I need sleep at the moment
[06:01:14] <SB-X> ok
[06:01:15] <SB-X> cya
[06:01:58] <SB-X> hehe
[08:11:30] <-- SB-X has left IRC (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))
[08:20:37] --> EsBee-Eks has joined #pentagram
[09:28:17] --> Fingolfin has joined #pentagram
[09:28:17] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to Fingolfin
[09:54:13] --> Dark-Star has joined #pentagram
[11:18:22] <wjp> it appears there's a japanese version of U8
[11:18:36] <wjp> we just got a bugreport about not supporting it :-)
[11:44:52] <EsBee-Eks> :)
[11:49:10] <wjp> I wonder if the japanese ultima collection is available somehow
[11:49:32] <wjp> shopping.yahoo.co.jp seems to have a few available
[11:49:55] <wjp> unfortunately I don't quite read japanese well enough to figure out much more than that
[12:04:28] <Dark-Star> they're not that expensive it seems... only 2000 yen (plus shipping and customs, which would be a real pain I guess...)
[12:05:54] <wjp> 2000 yen would be below 20 Eur, right?
[12:05:58] <Dark-Star> yes
[12:06:38] <Dark-Star> maybe I could get a friend of mine (who'll be in japan soon) to buy me one :)
[12:06:39] <EsBee-Eks> do you have to be in japan to buy from there?
[12:07:09] <Dark-Star> I don't know, you need to register for a "yahoo japan ID" it seems ...
[12:24:11] <wjp> heh, I'd try, but I'm not sure if I'd be able to find shipping info afterwards
[12:24:59] <Dark-Star> yes, I was thinking the same thing. I'll try it anyway I think :)
[12:25:30] <wjp> at least I do seem to be able to figure out what they want to know on the registration page
[12:25:34] * Dark-Star definitely needs one of those cool small electronic kanji dictionaries
[12:26:33] <wjp> how do you input kanji to those?
[12:27:47] <Dark-Star> some have a touchpad where you can draw them. or via radical (or even via just about any part of the kanji, not neccessarily the radical)
[12:28:06] <wjp> let's see... ID, password, repeated password, postal code, gender, date of birth, email address, "type of industry"?, occupation, secret question, answer, number in image
[12:28:33] <EsBee-Eks> whats the one with the big dropdown box of kanji entries?
[12:29:15] <wjp> below 'meiru adoresu' ?
[12:29:30] <EsBee-Eks> heh, i guess its type of industry?
[12:29:38] <EsBee-Eks> i closed the page long ago but I wondered what that was
[12:29:47] <EsBee-Eks> I thought it was locations
[12:29:47] <wjp> yeah, although I'm not quite sure what they mean
[12:32:08] <EsBee-Eks> well, got to go
[12:32:09] <EsBee-Eks> bye
[12:32:15] <wjp> bye
[12:32:21] <-- EsBee-Eks has left IRC ("casts gate travel")
[12:32:56] <Dark-Star> hm, I can read (or better: guess) most of the industry types, but which qualifies for me as an university student? I can't seem to find "education" or something like that
[12:33:10] * Dark-Star increases Firefox font size
[12:35:21] <Dark-Star> hmm.. postal code... would they have any use for my german postal code? :)
[12:36:16] <Dark-Star> ah, maybe I should have read the text on the right :)
[12:37:23] <wjp> kaigai ni *blah blah* ? :-)
[12:37:50] <Dark-Star> yes
[12:46:47] <Dark-Star> doesn't seem like they're doing international shipping... at least not online
[12:48:12] <wjp> pity :/
[12:50:19] * Dark-Star tries to find some contact information on their shop homepages...
[12:54:30] <wjp> 7dream apparently does do overseas delivery
[12:54:40] <wjp> http://store.yahoo.co.jp/7dream/info02.html#q01
[12:54:57] <wjp> um, no, wait
[12:55:06] <wjp> mistranslated answer, I think :-)
[12:56:56] <Dark-Star> I just sent a feedback to ValuMore asking them about international shipments
[12:57:59] <wjp> I wonder if they have two copies available
[12:58:37] <Dark-Star> I would say yes. I don't think it's that rare over there... but well, who knows :)
[12:59:08] <wjp> hm, valumore has a line on their info page saying shipping is limited to Japan
[12:59:18] <wjp> (I think)
[12:59:31] <Dark-Star> heh, well, I didn't notice that then :)
[12:59:47] <wjp> http://store.yahoo.co.jp/valumore/info.html , section 3, the line before the last one
[13:00:02] <wjp> but it's quite possible they will do it anyway if you ask, of course
[13:43:38] <wjp> if they reply positively, can you contact me? If we both want one, if might be cheaper to share shipping.
[13:46:49] <Fingolfin> in the worst case, you just have to find somebody in JP who acts as a relay station
[13:47:57] * wjp nods
[13:50:05] <Darke2> Maybe see if the person reporting the bug wants to volunteer? *grin*
[13:50:17] <wjp> latest update on the bug report: it does work if he renames jusecode.flx to eusecode.flx
[13:50:31] <wjp> text is unreadable, of course
[13:55:49] <wjp> would be cool to have a japanese U8 or ultima collection :-)
[13:56:43] <Darke2> Add me to the list of those wanting to acquire a copy too, if you do manage to get a 'yes we ship internationally' out of them. *grin*
[14:36:23] <-- Kirben has left IRC (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))
[14:38:41] <-- Fingolfin has left IRC ("42")
[15:50:28] <wjp> committed detection of jusecode.flx...
[19:26:24] --> Fingolfin has joined #pentagram
[19:26:24] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to Fingolfin
[20:23:46] <Dark-Star> wjp: sure, I'll contact you as soon as I got an email from them
[20:23:51] <Dark-Star> (sorry for the late answer ;-)
[20:29:00] <wjp> thanks :-)
[22:31:50] --> Kirben has joined #pentagram
[22:31:50] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to Kirben
[22:45:29] --> Blanel has joined #pentagram
[22:45:38] <Blanel> Hullo
[22:46:45] <Blanel> People of few words, right?
[22:46:48] <Blanel> :)
[22:48:18] <wjp> hi
[22:48:26] <Blanel> Hi
[22:49:07] <Blanel> Hows life?
[22:49:18] <wjp> pretty good, thanks
[22:52:20] <Blanel> Nice.
[22:52:33] <Blanel> Where ya from?
[22:53:29] <wjp> the Netherlands
[22:54:14] <Blanel> Sweet
[22:54:18] <Blanel> Sweden here
[22:58:17] <Oak> Finland
[22:58:36] <Blanel> Hey! Kinda Neighbours then :P
[23:04:14] <Fingolfin> Germany
[23:04:19] <Fingolfin> neighbor to wjp :)
[23:05:28] <Blanel> hahaha
[23:05:29] <Blanel> Sweet
[23:05:45] <Blanel> You guys the dev team for Pentagram then?
[23:06:02] <wjp> yeah
[23:06:37] <Blanel> Ok. Probobly heard this before but I also really apreciate your work :)
[23:06:44] <wjp> thanks :-)
[23:07:06] <Dark-Star> wjp: Do they normally localize console games in .nl?
[23:07:14] <wjp> I have no idea
[23:07:19] <Dark-Star> too bad :)
[23:07:30] <wjp> I pay just about zero attention to console gaming :-)
[23:07:51] <Blanel> Hows it goin. Got a bit woried when you didnt update the homepage for ages, thought you were dead but figured real life might have gotten in your way or something :)
[23:08:04] <Dark-Star> I just found out about ebay.nl and I thought I might get a few more good oldies for my SNES. But I want to understand what I'm playing :)
[23:08:24] <wjp> Dark-Star: I would guess typically the boxes and manuals might be translated, but the game itself won't be
[23:08:31] * Dark-Star is in a flashback-phase recently
[23:08:46] <Fingolfin> Blanel: focusing on dev work, not updating web pages
[23:09:04] <Blanel> hahaha. Thats fine by me
[23:09:12] <wjp> I have quite a few unfinished new features here locally
[23:09:12] * Fingolfin isn't really working on pentagram, anyway. I only sometimes annoy wjp these days, one of my favorite hobbies
[23:09:43] <wjp> annoying me gets bugs fixed from time to time :-)
[23:10:14] <Blanel> hahaha
[23:13:15] <Blanel> What are you working on right now then? :P Sorry if I'm just asking a hell of alota questions about pentagram but the fact remains that U8 is the best game ever, making you guys the greatest guys ever making it playable again.
[23:14:29] <wjp> actually working on pentagram currently
[23:14:56] <Blanel> Really? On what?
[23:15:23] <wjp> at the moment doing some research for the japanese version of U8
[23:15:37] <Blanel> Aha ok :)
[23:16:01] <wjp> also spending time on pathfinding and special monster behaviour (shapeshifters)
[23:16:35] <Blanel> aha. Gotta love those buggers. Gotta be a hell coding them tho :P
[23:16:59] <wjp> let's just say it's not my favourite part of the code right now ;-)
[23:17:28] <Blanel> Hahaha.
[23:19:27] <Blanel> How are you gonna try and solve it? Just different animations that change on a random factor or something like that (I suck at coding so I'm just saying something that seems logical to me but probobly wouldnt work ;))
[23:20:17] <wjp> it's basically going to be a state machine, with indeed some randomness in the state changes
[23:20:44] <Blanel> Ok. Close to what I thought of, tho I would never be able to code it :D
[23:20:51] <wjp> so it can be in a number of states, such as 'ambushing', 'attacking in avatar form', 'attacking in own form', etc...
[23:21:08] <Blanel> Yeah. I guessed
[23:21:09] <Blanel> :P
[23:21:16] <wjp> and depending on what happens (avatar getting close, hitpoints dropping too far; things like that) it changes state
[23:21:31] <Blanel> Yeah.
[23:21:33] <wjp> it's the corner cases that are annoying
[23:21:47] <wjp> like 'in ambush state, avatar is close, but unreachable'
[23:22:32] <Blanel> thats when the state 'Runaway at random' comes in handy ;)
[23:22:52] <wjp> :-)
[23:23:04] <Blanel> It looks dumb but would maybe (just maybe) work :P
