[11:25:31] <trin> hi
[11:26:50] <trin> i have a problem/bug report regarding pentagram
[11:29:20] <trin> the pentagram.ini file only supports linux line-breaks, if i use windows line-breaks to format the ini-file. pentagram doesn't start
[12:03:45] <Lightkey> sounds like a feature
[12:28:56] <-- trin has left IRC ("You are heading for some face time with Mrs. Brick !")
[13:03:56] <Colourless> what operating system are you using?
[13:04:02] <Colourless> uh,
[13:04:04] <Colourless> long gone :-)
[13:04:07] <wjp> I was wondering the same thing...
[13:07:14] <wjp> things work fine here with dos-style endlines
[13:07:29] <wjp> and I assume they do for you as well
[13:09:14] <Colourless> yes :-)
[13:09:40] <Colourless> i do use notepad to edit it
[13:28:10] <-- Kirben has left IRC ("System Meltdown")
[14:09:50] <Farrier> Urgh. It's morning.
[14:10:00] <Farrier> Well, OK, it's 2pm, but that's close enough.
[14:10:39] <Farrier> Morning all. :) Anyone know of anything that would be useful to someone making an isometric UW2 remake?
[14:11:11] <Farrier> Or failing that, anyone know of stuff that I might want to do to my remake to make it more useful to others? :)
[14:13:51] <Colourless> a massive undertaking
[14:14:11] <Colourless> i wouldn't know where to start giving advice
[14:23:42] <Farrier> Hee :) Well, I'm trying to do it bitesized.
[14:24:04] <Farrier> I started by making sure I could extract all the data I needed (conversation trees and graphics and whatnot).
[14:24:52] <Farrier> Next, I made sure that all the functions that I wanted could be implemented in the target engine, since almost all of them were said to be "impossible" :)
[14:25:28] <Farrier> "Can't do inventories, you can only hold one item at a time in Furcadia" and such.
[14:26:37] <Farrier> I got some of the most important midis (the ones for Brittania) remastered to stereo (might be useful to uwadv, so I've put them online).
[14:28:09] <Farrier> I've imported the graphics to the game engine, though the wall graphics will need lots more work to make walls in the "front" of the avatar be 50% transparent, so you can see the floor.
[14:29:16] <Farrier> Biggest graphics problem I've got is character sprites: UW's characters are taken head-on, I need some isometric sprites. So I'm looking for those, or 3D models of the UW2 characters that I can render in isometric to make sprites from.
[14:30:33] <Colourless> not much i know about those
[14:30:42] <Farrier> Nnext step is to actually move beyond proof-of-concept maps to an actual working map of a level - probably level 3 of brittania, since it has a single character conversation (Fissif) and combat (headlesses, firebat), as well as some other funky effects.
[14:31:33] <Farrier> Once that's done, everything else should be prettymuch a case of doing boring slog-work :)
[14:35:57] <Farrier> Biggest irritation is Furcadia (the engine I'm making it on) doesn't support passing more than two bytes from one level to another. So that'll have to be done with a bot for game flags, inventory, etc. :(
[14:36:47] <Colourless> two bytes
[14:36:55] <Colourless> that isn't going to get you much
[14:37:42] <Farrier> Should be enough to say which portal they passed through to get to the level. Then the bot will have to handle everything else: it will be in both maps, and will memorise their inventory, etc.
[14:37:54] <Farrier> I want as little as possible to be controlled by the bot, though.
[14:38:17] <Farrier> Since the whole point of the excercise is to prove how much can eb done by the engine itself :)
[14:46:26] <Farrier> So, other than populating the inventory/game flags when they move from level to level, it shouldn't need to do anything.
[14:50:10] <Farrier> Oh, and "saving" their game.
[16:05:43] --> trin has joined #pentagram
[16:05:50] <trin> colourless?
[16:05:53] <trin> wjp?`
[16:10:12] <trin> [13:03:56] <Colourless> what operating system are you using?
[16:10:56] <trin> I'm using Windows 2000 SP4 and Pentgram Windows daily build binary
[16:11:07] <trin> as an editor I used notepad
[16:11:08] <Colourless> and you are saying dos line break don't work?
[16:11:48] <trin> yes
[16:12:23] <Colourless> how strange
[16:12:24] <Colourless> it should just work
[16:12:41] <trin> also because notepad ignores all linux line breaks, the entries are all display on a single line
[16:12:53] <Colourless> yes notepad is like that
[16:13:35] <trin> when i remove the linux line breaks and exchange them with the ones from notepad, pentagram stopped working
[16:14:04] <Colourless> something else might be up
[16:14:13] <Colourless> what does stdout.txt and stderr.txt say
[16:14:58] <trin> hmm strange
[16:15:01] <trin> now it works
[16:15:07] <trin> yesterday it didn't
[16:15:18] <trin> i will investigate this
[16:16:15] <trin> hmm don't know
[16:16:30] <Colourless> then... not a problem :-)
[16:16:36] <trin> but anyway there is another issue i would like to mention
[16:17:07] <trin> the filenames for the intro and the credits are different in the german (and french, i guess) version are different
[16:17:20] <trin> -are different
[16:17:33] <trin> i filed a bug report for this
[16:17:54] <trin> http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1164968&group_id=53819&atid=471706
[16:19:12] <Colourless> yes that is known
[16:19:24] <Colourless> fintro and gintro ?
[16:19:50] <trin> yes and fcredits and gcredits
[16:20:22] <trin> that should be easy to fix i guess
[16:21:23] <Colourless> yes :-)
[16:21:56] <trin> btw.: cool minimap. i really like it :)
[16:24:21] <Colourless> :-)
[16:42:15] <trin> is there a hot key for the minimap or do i always have to use the console?
[16:45:58] <Colourless> no hot key
