[06:09:29] <-- SB-X has left IRC ("casts gate travel")
[07:19:22] <Colourless> now that i have an Athlon64 machine i was thinking of seeing if i could compile Pentagram (and Exult) for Windows AMD64... then i remembered i'll need all the libraries in AMD64 too... and i don't want to have to fix and compile SDL for Windows AMD64.
[07:20:05] <Colourless> Unlike other operating systems aka linux, in the transition to 64 bit microsoft got rid of some 'legacy' components such as old directx interfaces...
[07:20:37] <Colourless> i imagine those will cause issue for SDL
[07:26:05] * Darke2 has been meaning to download and try pentagram on his X2 under win32 for a while. Would be interesting to see if we've got any odd race conditions like a few games he's been playing with. *grin*
[07:29:31] <Colourless> so many games using multiple threads getting tripped up by X2s
[07:29:49] --> SB-X has joined #pentagram
[07:30:59] <Colourless> well pentagram seems to run quite all right under Wow64
[07:32:39] * Colourless looks at fps...
[07:32:42] <Colourless> hmmm 100 fps in pentagram
[07:35:22] <Darke2> Cool. Then again, it really should perform well anyway, didn't we find out a while back we seemed to be limited by memory speed more then anything else?
[07:35:29] <Colourless> hmm 200fps ish at 320x200 no scaler fullscreen
[07:36:00] <Colourless> yeah mostly memory limited when rendering as far as i could tell
[07:36:12] <Colourless> hmm dinner time
[07:47:14] <Darke2> pentagram seems to work fine on my X2, then again we're basicly running everything in a single thread anyway, so it really 'should' work fine, but you never know. *grin*
[07:49:11] * Darke2 'just' tested the dock scene and magic mushrooms and assorted wandering around, but considering the timing issues we had with the docks before, it seems like a better test then most. *grin*
[07:55:02] <Colourless> not basically, we are
[07:59:45] <Darke2> Don't we have a seperate thread for sound?
[08:09:45] <Colourless> sdl controls that
[08:35:23] <-- Colourless has left IRC ("restarting")
[08:44:45] --> Colourless has joined #Pentagram
[08:44:45] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to Colourless
[09:01:41] <-- Colourless has left IRC ("casts improved invisibility")
[09:47:29] * Darke2 ahhs! Makes sense... then realises that Colourless is missing. Ah well. *grin*
[09:58:03] <SB-X> :)
[10:10:56] <SB-X> Darke2: don't worry, he's just invisible
[10:41:17] * Darke2 ahhs!
[10:55:13] <SB-X> :)
[11:12:19] * Darke2 thinks we should rebuild the core of pentagram with SDL_perl! It would make it much easier to update and maintain and understand and... err... ok, I'll go now. *hide*
[11:20:13] <Oak> with perl? :D
[11:22:45] * Darke2 just read through this: http://arstechnica.com/guides/tweaks/games-perl.ars/ which seems like a decent overview of making a game in perl using SDL. And he had that thought. *grin*
[11:34:59] <-- Kirben has left IRC ("System Meltdown")
[11:59:54] <SB-X> Super Penguin Bros.!
[12:11:34] <Darke2> Trying to rescue 'Princess Pearl' from a bunch of python-like creatures?
[12:12:39] <SB-X> You tell me. http://arstechnica.com/Media/2006/2/14/linux_games.gif
[12:17:17] <Darke2> I think that's 'SuperTux': http://supertux.berlios.de/
[12:30:36] * SB-X ahhs! Thanks!
[12:44:35] <SB-X> the md5sum check fails for the autopackage :\
[12:47:22] <SB-X> that was easy enough to get around
[12:49:29] <SB-X> but not surprisingly, the installation then fails
[13:05:36] <SB-X> It worked fine after compiling from source.
[13:15:10] <Darke2> All hail the source! *bow*
[13:15:18] * Darke2 sleeps! Night! *fwump!*
[13:16:01] <wjp> good night :-)
[13:17:14] * Darke2 fully expects to need SDL_perl to compile pentagram when he wakes up. Simply because exultbot will mind-control wjp to Make It So(tm).
[13:17:18] * Darke2 really sleeps!
[13:27:07] <SB-X> bye
