[17:47:05] --> Fingolfin has joined #pentagram
[17:47:05] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to Fingolfin
[17:47:48] <wjp> hi Fingolfin
[17:47:51] <Fingolfin> yo
[17:48:13] <Fingolfin> wjp: can you do me a favor? Only takes 5 mins, a non-OSX system with X11 and Tcl/Tk installed...
[17:48:21] <wjp> sure
[17:48:35] <Fingolfin> essentially, put these four lines into foo.tcl:
[17:48:37] <Fingolfin> canvas .c
[17:48:38] <Fingolfin> bind .c <Enter> "puts enter"
[17:48:38] <Fingolfin> bind .c <ButtonPress> "puts press"
[17:48:38] <Fingolfin> pack .c
[17:48:58] <Fingolfin> Then, run "wish < foo.tcl". It should show a window; if you move the mouse in and click, it'll print "puts press"
[17:49:12] <Fingolfin> err, just "press" :-)
[17:49:26] <Fingolfin> what I wonder: if you click, does it just show "press", or "enter" followed by "press"
[17:49:43] <wjp> it shows "enter" as soon as the mouse enters the window
[17:50:06] <wjp> (I have my window manager setup to change focus simply by moving the mouse; no clicks required)
[17:50:26] <wjp> clicking the mouse just shows "press"
[17:50:59] <Fingolfin> ok, good
[17:51:23] <wjp> incidentally I get exactly the same behaviour in click-to-focus mode
[17:51:53] <Fingolfin> It differs over here... see <https://sourceforge.net/support/tracker.php?aid=939435>
[17:52:17] <Fingolfin> hm, I wonder what happens if you use SSH+X11 forwarding to run my tcltk wish...
[17:52:31] * Fingolfin already tried this to run the tcltk wish on his university account
[17:54:02] <wjp> hmmm
[17:54:09] <wjp> I can't even run that program remotely
[17:54:14] <wjp> X Error of failed request: BadAtom (invalid Atom parameter)
[17:54:17] <Fingolfin> yeah
[17:54:18] <wjp> xclock works fine
[17:54:21] <Fingolfin> I also got that at first
[17:54:28] <Fingolfin> googling told me to use -Y instead of -X, then it works
[17:54:50] <wjp> hm, indeed :-)
[17:55:01] <wjp> same behaviour
[17:55:14] <wjp> (I mean, it runs properly, but the enter/press is the same as locally)
[17:55:54] <wjp> time for dinner; I'll be back later
[17:56:19] <Fingolfin> ok, thanks!
[17:56:28] <wjp> no problem
[18:15:40] <wjp> a friend recently bought an iBook, by the way, so I'm picking up a bit of Mac OS X experience from time to time now :-)
[18:17:05] <wjp> Fingolfin: do you have xev?
[18:18:18] <wjp> would be interesting to see if clicking in an xev window produces an EnterNotify as well
[18:18:19] <Fingolfin> yes
[18:18:52] <Fingolfin> it doesn't produce one
[18:18:54] <Fingolfin> good idea
[19:09:21] <-- Colourless has left IRC ("casts improved invisibility")
[19:27:33] <Fingolfin> wjp: turns out X11 forwarding was disabled in my sshd. I booted my other mac from an ubuntu live CD and was able to perform the test
[19:27:43] <Fingolfin> indeed, everythin works fine from there
[19:27:54] <Fingolfin> so it's definitly an X11 problem, not a Tcl/Tk problem :_-)
[19:43:16] <Fingolfin> in fact, it's the default window manager which seems to cause the problem
[19:57:25] --> SB-X has joined #pentagram
[20:41:30] <-- Fingolfin has left IRC ("42")
[21:30:31] <-- SB-X has left IRC (Remote closed the connection)
[22:20:45] --> Kirben has joined #pentagram
[22:20:45] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to Kirben
