[13:40:50] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to wjp
[13:40:55] <wjp> hi :-)
[13:41:29] <wjp> I keep forgetting that closing a terminal forcefully will kill the programs I started from it (like xchat :-) )
[13:42:08] <Colourless> :-)
[13:42:29] <Colourless> reminds me of when i did a kill process tree on explorer
[13:42:45] <Colourless> that killed everything that was running :-)
[13:43:14] <wjp> :-)
[13:43:41] <Colourless> of course i did better last night. changed a registry setting or 2, and killed my entire windows installation :-)
[13:43:59] <wjp> I'm impressed :-)
[13:44:20] * Colourless is currently coming to you from his win2k machine, while winxp reinstalls, then sp1...
[13:44:45] <Colourless> the setting of course were to do with memory management
[13:46:19] <wjp> ah, so you can work on exult studio's win2k ipc *cough* ;-)
[13:46:52] <Colourless> :-)
[13:47:08] <Colourless> well, not really
[13:47:27] <Colourless> you see, i need to be able to recompile exult and exult studio
[13:47:37] <Colourless> and well, they are on my other machine
[13:48:05] <Colourless> and even then, i need gcc 3.2 and gtk2 if i'm not mistaken
[13:48:24] <Colourless> of which i have neither
[13:53:15] <Colourless> well well well.
[13:53:20] <Colourless> so darke was right
[13:53:30] <Colourless> the windows xp installer does have music

[16:04:25] <Colourless> back from the dead :-)
[16:23:46] <wjp> all patched up? :-)
[16:24:13] <Colourless> no, not yet... that is going to take more than just a 'few' hours
[16:24:46] <wjp> good.... uhh... I mean... could you try playing this totally innocent midi file? *evil grin* ;-)
[16:30:51] <Colourless> windows update has 25 updates waiting for me :-)
[16:30:57] <Colourless> Total: 25 = 42.6 MB, 2 hours 29 minutes
[16:32:41] <wjp> sounds like fun :-)

[16:33:21] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to Fingolfin
[16:33:28] <wjp> hi Max

[16:34:54] <Colourless> Total: 17 = 9.8 MB, 34 Minutes
[16:35:53] <Fingolfin> hiya

[18:54:19] <wjp> :-)
[18:55:35] * wjp floods Colourless' modem with lots and lots of midi files :-)
[20:08:04] --> Dominus has joined #pentagram
[20:08:36] <Dominus> hi
[20:08:49] <Colourless> hi
[20:08:52] <wjp> hi
[20:16:28] <Dominus> Colourless: as for the windows updates, I make it a habit of only noting which new updates windowsupdate suggests and then get them of the advanced windowsupdate thing instead of the "download-install-and-automatically-delete-the-files" routine.
[20:16:54] <Dominus> Makes it fairly "painless" in keeping all the XP boxes I look after up to date
[20:17:17] <Colourless> yeah i thinking of doing that for the 'big' downloads that i didn't download
[20:18:26] <Dominus> especially with my laptop here that runs XP as well this is a must for me as long as I'm on dial-up
[20:32:47] <Dominus> hey, while we are at it, how about a pentagram alpha release?
[20:32:50] <Dominus> just kidding
[20:32:52] <Dominus> :-)
[20:33:04] <wjp> forget it :-)
[20:33:09] <Colourless> and what? get no end of people complaining that it doesn;t work?
[20:33:28] <Colourless> pentagram is pre-alpha anyway
[20:33:45] <Colourless> alpha is supposed to represent the first completable version
[20:34:32] <Dominus> why bother with users, make the ML registered-users-only and not enable the sf-forums and don't answer exult-forum questions about pentagram :-)
[20:35:21] <DarkeZzz> ... then we make Dominus the official 'question answerer' of #pentagram, and everything's fine!
[20:35:44] <Dominus> right
[20:35:56] <Dominus> but only when I'm in my grumpy mode :(
[20:37:12] <DarkeZzz> Grumpy mood 'after', 'during', or 'before'? The first two are easy, the last is a little harder, but I'm sure we'll work something out!
[20:37:13] <wjp> as far as I'm concerned I wouldn't release until we're pretty much feature-complete
[20:37:48] <Colourless> which will include... walking :-)
[20:37:55] <wjp> ...combat
[20:38:01] <Colourless> AI!
[20:38:04] <DarkeZzz> ... then we'll get complaints that TGWDS don't work. *grin*
[20:38:10] <Dominus> I think, when Pentagram is on the stage of about Exult 0.9 it would be nice to release it
[20:38:37] * wjp thinks
[20:38:39] <Dominus> (I'd like first support for TGWDS in before a release)
[20:38:43] <wjp> which stage was that?
[20:38:57] <Colourless> exult was fairly playable at even 0.3
[20:39:17] <Colourless> exult though took a long time to be polished up
[20:39:28] <Colourless> pentagram's development will look a bit different
[20:39:32] <wjp> we hope :-)
[20:39:53] <Colourless> well, so much of games are usecode controlled
[20:40:04] <Colourless> it's really obvious when something isn't working properly
[20:40:27] <wjp> and then we rewrite a large subsystem of pentagram to get it to work, and then move on to the next problem :-)
[20:40:44] <Colourless> :-)
[20:41:19] <Colourless> things are looking up now though. most of the stuff we have in pentagram now seems mostly correct
[20:41:33] <wjp> yes
[20:41:42] <Colourless> of course i've noted more than a few problems with gravityprocess and legal move implementations
[20:41:55] <wjp> yeah, those are somewhat stubbed :-)
[20:42:11] <Dominus> what are your theories about those?
[20:42:13] <wjp> umm.. no, I'm confusing them with something else
[20:42:28] <Colourless> something's not working quite right with tht hit and gotHit intrinsics
[20:43:16] <Colourless> i haven't looked at exactly what is going on yet though
[20:43:55] <wjp> any symptoms?
[20:44:05] <Colourless> well yes
[20:44:11] <Colourless> spikey balls get stuck :-)
[20:44:19] <wjp> hm
[20:44:24] <Colourless> things shot can get stuck
[20:44:32] <Colourless> or don't explode when they should
[20:44:33] <wjp> I've seen them standing still in the shrine of the ancient ones
[20:44:46] <wjp> but they continued to move the next time I got close
[20:44:47] <Colourless> it's going to be something utterly trivial
[20:44:56] <wjp> but what? :-)
[20:44:56] <Colourless> i just need to look at what the problem is
[20:45:41] <Colourless> i can make changes that fixes the current problems, but then just cause others :-)
[20:45:45] <Colourless> which isn't very good
[22:09:26] <-- ragzter has left IRC ("Crusader: No Regret")
[22:34:08] <-- Colourless has left IRC ("casts invisibility")
[22:48:19] <-- wjp has left IRC ("Zzzz...")
[22:53:22] <-- Dominus has left IRC ("enough for now")
