[04:47:30] <Colourless> sleeping most likely
[04:55:13] <Colourless> i am 'deeply' offended, our honoured guest didn't get my name correct, unless he was wanting someone else :-)
[06:28:58] --> Servus has joined #Pentagram

[09:35:29] --- DarkeZzz is now known as Darke
[09:36:34] --> Dark-Star has joined #pentagram
[09:36:57] <Darke> *earperk* *poing!* Baka! Woohoo!
[09:37:23] <wjp> indeed :-)
[09:37:59] <Servus> what happened?
[09:38:44] <Dark-Star> Who was this Baka guy, anyway? I mean I read the logs but I still don't understand. Was he a developer of U8/Crusader?
[09:38:53] * Darke bounces around poinging and 'Baka'ing, building a shrine to The Great One who has returned briefly to the unreality.
[09:39:09] <wjp> he was a crusader designer, IIRC
[09:40:07] <Servus> what about Drakksen?
[09:40:16] <Servus> what's it called?
[09:40:30] <wjp> dransik?
[09:40:36] <Servus> dransik, yes
[09:40:41] <wjp> that's Jason Ely's current project, I think
[09:40:59] <Servus> eek they started charging!
[09:41:43] <Servus> http://www.dransik.com/office/office_3.jpg look closely ;)
[09:43:12] <wjp> crusader poster?
[09:43:53] * Darke grins and noticed it too.
[09:44:29] <Servus> the team is made up mostly of ex-crusader-programmers, so i thought...
[09:44:52] <Servus> what's baka's real name?
[09:44:54] <Dark-Star> posters from both crusaders actually: http://www.dransik.com/office/office_1.jpg
[09:45:01] <wjp> Eric Willmar
[09:45:31] <wjp> is that Jason Ely's office?
[09:46:08] <Servus> http://www.dransik.com/office/office_2.jpg this is jason ely's
[09:46:42] <Servus> they have the art _director_ from ultima 7
[09:46:58] <Servus> he's also the MOO artist
[09:47:32] <Darke> Cool. Nice to see they've finally upgraded the tilesets. *grin*
[09:48:13] <Servus> and matt sheffield from ultima 8
[09:48:54] <Servus> one of them : " Three shipped titles- Ultima IX, Jimmy Neutron, and SpongeBob SquarePants.
[09:48:55] <Servus> hehehe
[09:55:10] <-- Kirben has left IRC (Read error: 104 (Connection reset by peer))

[18:32:40] <-- Colourless has left IRC (Read error: 110 (Connection timed out))
[18:50:20] --> Thump has joined #pentagram
[18:54:04] <Thump> no offence Colourless - I was in the middle of a bunch of things, and yes, I miss-spelled your name. My Applogoies. (That, and my spelling sucks anyways).
[18:57:17] <Thump> <Servus> the team is made up mostly of ex-crusader-programmers, so i thought...
[18:57:18] <Thump> <Servus> the team is made up mostly of ex-crusader-programmers, so i thought...
[18:57:19] <Thump> and I only helped on Dransik for a short while. I needed a quick nickname, so "Baka" I was for a short bit (And yes, I'm a big anime fan, so I know what it means ;)
[18:58:29] <Thump> Ah, my bad - cut & paste does work... darn Pirch. To answer Servus' question, there were only a couple programmers on Crusader. Although, I think Tony Z. might be teaming up with Jason now for future projects
[18:59:17] <Thump> Those are old office shots
[18:59:27] * Thump goes through log...
[19:00:14] <Thump> Matt from U8, Crusader & Ultima Online ;) He's pretty good. They also have Dennis. Impressive.
[19:01:49] <Thump> Anyways, After Crusader (No Regret) - we started Crusader 2. Which, didn't happen. We were going for the true 3D feel, but at the time, technology was pretty new, knowledge was limited, not enough R&R - and boom - project killed
[19:02:49] <Thump> Jason, Tony, Jorg, and later Andrew all left to Digital Anvil (At the time, a Chris Roberts co.) and started working on Loose Cannon.
[19:03:29] <Thump> The rest of the Cru team, went over to "Privateer Online" or "Wing Commander Online" or whatever it was called in its various itterations.
[19:04:28] <Thump> Years later, in a cluster of a project, I went over to UO2
[19:05:05] <Thump> After about 3 years of development on UO2 (Which, I loved - it was sooo cool if you ever got a chance to see the trailers) - the big Axe fell
[19:05:56] <Thump> ~ 85 employees laid off at Origin - our whole UO2 team plus others... That was in March 2001? something like that
[19:06:38] <Thump> After that, it was hard to find work. I had *Just* purchased a house (Actually, didn't move in until April) - and in October, Jorg called me
[19:07:06] <Thump> They had an opening for a Designer on "Freelancer" (Which just released here in the States earlier this month)
[19:07:34] <Thump> So I worked on that up until last month. I went to do a search for my name, and saw a mention of me, from in here
[19:08:30] <Thump> So from there, I had to find this place and provide proof that I still existed =)
[19:09:27] <Thump> I normally use the nickname "Thumper" - but that is an erroneous nickname on this IRC.
[19:11:07] <Thump> And as for technical information, I'm afraid I don't have much to offer. I've pretty much forgotten "unk" (Crusader's & U8's usecode language)
[19:11:16] <Thump> I mean, that was ~8 years or so ago ;)
[19:13:20] <Thump> Also, I live on another IRC Network, irc.othersideirc.net or http://dragongate.eu.org for those who prefer Java...
[19:14:05] <Thump> I'm sure you can figure it all out - and I'll have to find a time/schedule when we are all awake ;)
[19:27:13] <wjp> hi!
[19:27:28] <wjp> give me a sec to read up :-)
[19:28:16] <Thump> =)
[19:28:55] <wjp> Darke and Colourless are both .au, so timing is a bit hard, yes :-(
[19:29:24] <Thump> Although, with my current schedule on week-days, I've been getting up at 5:00am
[19:29:42] <Thump> Maybe I'll be able to catch them in the morning (my time) sometime
[19:29:43] <wjp> Austin is GMT-6 or something, right?
[19:29:51] <Thump> aye
[19:29:52] <Thump> CST
[19:29:56] <Thump> -6 sounds right
[19:29:57] <Thump> It's now 1:30:04 PM on 3/28/2003 which is a Friday.
[19:30:24] <wjp> 20:34 here
[19:30:27] <wjp> (Netherlands)
[19:30:32] <Thump> [wjp TIME Response] Fri Mar 28 20:34:41
[19:30:35] <Thump> ;) got that
[19:31:04] <Thump> It's really cool to see what you guys have accomplished
[19:31:18] <wjp> not much visible yet atm, though :-)
[19:31:20] <Thump> Brought back memories seeing those screenshots with all the eggs and stuff
[19:31:46] <wjp> we have a usecode interpreter up and running, though :-)
[19:32:03] <Thump> I saw some mention of that
[19:32:32] <Thump> the usecode was pretty simple - a combo of C++, Basic, Pascal....
[19:32:57] <Thump> the whole "trigger editor" was written in the usecode amazingly
[19:33:23] <wjp> one thing we've really been wondering about... the 0x57 opcode, which handles synchronization between processes
[19:33:38] <wjp> we're planning on doing a large part of the UI in usecode, too :-)
[19:34:12] <Thump> Ok, I'm not very tech savy when it comes to the programming side, so forgive my ignorance
[19:34:30] <wjp> np :-)
[19:34:30] <Thump> process syncing - I'm wondering if you mean the custom kernal?
[19:34:40] <wjp> sorry, I meant between usecode processes
[19:34:51] <Thump> ahh
[19:36:06] <Thump> I do know we could run multiple usecode opperations at once, I'm not sure of the technical side though unfortunately
[19:36:41] --> Colourless has joined #Pentagram
[19:36:41] --- ChanServ gives channel operator status to Colourless
[19:36:53] <wjp> hi Ryan :-)
[19:36:55] <wjp> still around? :-)
[19:37:10] <Colourless> looks like it :-)
[19:37:35] <Colourless> its pentagram out of all things that has been keeping me up
[19:37:44] <wjp> excellent :-)
[19:39:01] <Colourless> :-)
[19:40:01] <Thump> Such an insecure network - tisk-tisk
[19:43:23] <Thump> Colourless get caught up with the log?
[19:43:54] * wjp wonders if Colourless fell asleep
[19:44:05] <Colourless> Thump: i was just reading it
[19:44:09] <Colourless> wjp: not quite
[19:44:12] <Thump> =)
[19:44:22] <wjp> around 4am now?
[19:44:25] <Thump> 6
[19:44:40] <Thump> hmmm - unless his clocks wrong
[19:44:43] <Thump> [Colourless TIME Response] Sat Mar 29 06:08:07 2003
[19:44:44] <wjp> oh, we're in the 9:30 hours difference time again... :-)
[19:44:51] <Thump> ahhh
[19:44:53] <wjp> I always mess up when we're 9:30 hours apart and when it's 7:30 :-)
[19:45:17] <Thump> I just /ctcp [nick] time - and it works out good for me =)
[19:45:31] <Colourless> no, 6:14 am
[19:45:31] <Colourless> amazing... thump 'cheated' ;-)
[19:45:42] <Colourless> summer time ends here tomorrow
[19:45:58] <wjp> hm, that must mean winter time'll end here soon too
[19:46:09] <wjp> although to keep things confusing it's probably a week later or something :-)
[19:46:28] <wjp> wow, I even implemented CTCP TIME for exultbot
[19:46:37] <Thump> All I know is spring break is comming up, and I get to go to MI to visit my family
[19:46:58] <Thump> exultbot an eggy?
[19:47:03] <wjp> no, custom bot
[19:47:11] <wjp> I was feeling like experimenting with perl a bit :-)
[19:47:12] <Thump> cool
[19:47:21] <Thump> You can still do that with an eggy ;)
[19:47:36] <wjp> I guess you can, yes :-)
[19:47:54] <Thump> I finially got a .page script on my eggy, that will page my watch ;) Talk about geeky
[19:48:14] <wjp> your watch?! :-)
[19:48:17] <wjp> lol
[19:48:36] <Thump> I have a timex internet messenger watch - get's latest news, pages, etc.
[19:48:43] <wjp> cool :-)
[19:48:47] <Thump> very geeky
[19:48:48] <Colourless> neat
[19:49:24] <Colourless> you first in line for a wearable computer then? :-)
[19:49:36] <Thump> http://www.timex.com/bin/detail.tmx?item=650044900080
[19:50:20] <Thump> actually... I had a friend on the UO2 team, that had the projection glasses, put his laptop in his backpack, and was on his way to getting one of those wEird one handed keyboards
[19:51:17] <Thump> oh yea, I got the 1 year of free paging free. Watch costs cheeper than that.
[19:53:08] <Colourless> i'm guessing reading emails on the watch isn't the easiest thing to do
[19:53:27] <Thump> you set the scroll speed
[19:55:32] <Thump> I need to stop surfing "Junk" http://www.officeorganix.com/Eropod500.htm
[19:55:47] <Thump> The ultimate computer desk
[19:55:54] <wjp> lol
[19:56:09] <Colourless> hmm, monitor is too small :-)
[19:56:14] <Thump> True
[19:56:22] <Thump> could probably put a flat screen on there
[19:56:28] <wjp> or two... :-)
[19:56:56] <Thump> oh, I'm thinking of the huge widescreen ones I just saw that have svga inputs ;)
[19:57:11] <Colourless> ooh, the desk is motorized
[19:57:20] <Colourless> Also accommodates LCD monitors.
[19:57:49] <Thump> eh? I take it back - might be a bad idea to get that... I think I would spill my beer
[19:57:54] <Colourless> it's pretty strong, says: tilts monitors weighing up to 150 lbs
[19:58:06] <wjp> how much is that in real units? ;-)
[19:58:09] <Colourless> that's pretty heavy... heavier than me in fact
[19:58:25] <Thump> wayyy heavier than me
[19:58:50] <Colourless> about 70 kg
[19:58:59] <Colourless> (just under)
[19:58:59] <Thump> lol
[19:59:11] <Thump> I fogot having to convert
[19:59:26] <Thump> $3700 is a little too much ;)
[19:59:42] <Thump> and thats jut the base price
[19:59:54] <wjp> it'd better include the PC for that price :-)
[20:00:24] <Colourless> hmm, it has a picture of someone using the computer in bed... i think this is a very bad idea... why get out of bed?
[20:00:46] <wjp> :-)
[20:00:55] <Thump> when I set up my wireless - I experienced that
[20:01:11] <Thump> I had notebook on nightstand. Wake up, surf, - didn't want to get out of bed
[20:01:31] <Thump> I was actually playing a lot of ToonTown that way
[20:06:58] <Thump> So does that sum up of what basically happened to the Crusader team?
[20:07:10] <Thump> Oh, and do you have an X-Box?
[20:07:30] * wjp doesn't
[20:07:32] <wjp> why?
[20:07:46] <Colourless> i don't, but i did help someone 'unofficially' port exult to the xbox :-)
[20:07:54] <wjp> (and, yes, it does; thanks for the background info :-) )
[20:08:03] <Thump> The lead Designer on the crusader series (Mark Vittek) is finishing up on an X-Box title =)
[20:08:22] <Thump> Brute Force
[20:08:40] <wjp> (Exult is an Ultima 7 rewrite we're both working on too, btw)
[20:08:53] <Thump> Aye! I had to find this place via it ;)
[20:09:17] <Thump> Unfortunately, I didn't have a lot of experience on the Ultima projects (A little on u8)
[20:09:19] <wjp> hm, the logs don't say which network this is on, irght?
[20:09:26] <wjp> s/irght/right/
[20:09:27] <Thump> nope!!!
[20:09:43] <Thump> Talk about a pain in the ass
[20:09:51] <Colourless> hehe
[20:09:56] <wjp> *looks ashamed* let me fix that :-)
[20:10:30] <Colourless> how about integrating that 'search engine' while you are at it :-)
[20:10:53] <wjp> I'm going to pretend I didn't hear that :-)
[20:11:39] <Thump> Let's see...had to find my name, find #Pentagram...., just a page with screenshots. Hmmm...go through the other links, looked all over the source control page - found names, searched through names, nothing... tried other links... found Exult - looked all around - ah! Found about us.
[20:12:13] <wjp> there; all fixed now :-)
[20:12:20] <Colourless> we really should put some more info on our homepage
[20:12:28] <Thump> I almost started hitting every major network I could think of to find here ;)
[20:12:43] <Thump> Undernet, Dalnet, effnet, etc...
[20:13:23] <Thump> much better =)
[20:13:25] <Thump> #pentagram@irc.freenode.net logs for 28 Mar 2003 (GMT)
[20:13:53] <wjp> ah well, at least it got Exult some publicity too ;-)
[20:14:37] <Thump> =) Very nice project
[20:15:45] <Colourless> wjp, perhaps a link should be added back to the exult/pentagram/uwadv on the log pages
[20:17:09] <wjp> something like this?
[20:17:40] <wjp> or maybe it should be below the archive/today/yesterday links
[20:18:00] <Thump> yea, below
[20:18:13] <Thump> bah, what do I know ;)
[20:18:17] <Colourless> it could be along side as just homepage
[20:18:25] <Thump> I like it =)
[20:18:52] <Colourless> that's all right
[20:19:11] * wjp copies that snippet of code to exult/uwadv pages
[20:19:26] <wjp> I should really make those three a single php page
[20:19:34] <wjp> this is a maintenance nightmare :-)
[20:20:14] <Colourless> 3 pages, a nightmare... i don't think so
[20:20:25] <wjp> ok... maintenance bad dream? :-)
[20:21:14] <Thump> wjp has private skills.... Colourless is Competent in 3110 C/C++ skill....
[20:21:46] <wjp> :-)
[20:22:21] <Thump> Yea, thats another place where I tried to find mention of the network...
[20:22:38] <Thump> Your Diary
[20:24:33] <wjp> hm, I don't think I ever wrote anything there
[20:26:09] <Thump> nope
[20:26:17] <Thump> I think your's is private or something
[20:26:46] <wjp> yeah, my skills profile is private; my diary is empty
[20:26:54] <Thump> nm - your correct
[20:27:17] <Thump> Yea, with hardly any info - I wasn't sure if I was in the right place ;)
[20:27:44] <Colourless> i just updated the homepage :-)
[20:27:49] <Thump> I guess you just advertise to hard core searching people ;)
[20:28:10] <wjp> inviting people to come annoy us? :-)
[20:28:20] <Thump> lol - yup
[20:28:40] <Colourless> if you know about pentagram, then you should have been able to find us here
[20:28:55] <Colourless> it's not like we have been telling the world about it
[20:29:29] <Thump> I think somebody from Exult a long time ago (I'm thinking years ago) tried to get ahold of Mark Vittek
[20:30:54] <wjp> hm, I don't remember anything about that
[20:31:15] <Thump> Doesn't matter - I think thats when I first heard of Exult tho
[20:31:56] <Colourless> i really should be off. it's after 7 am
[20:32:01] <Colourless> cya
[20:32:03] <wjp> g'night
[20:32:12] <-- Colourless has left IRC ("casts invisibility")
[20:39:47] <Thump> umm
[20:39:55] <wjp> yes? :-)
[20:40:01] <Thump> is it me, or did the log links screw up
[20:40:30] <Thump> I look at "today" link, and its...something else, although titled correctly
[20:40:57] <wjp> what's something else?
[20:41:13] <Thump> looks like a different log - a complete day
[20:41:38] <Thump> put it this way, before when I clicked "today" - I could see my nick.
[20:41:43] <Thump> Maybe I just need to clear my cache
[20:42:03] <wjp> well, you entered quite late on the day today
[20:42:25] <wjp> (a european day, that is :-) )
[20:42:33] <Thump> thats probably what it is
[20:43:21] <Thump> nm - i was on the #exlut page - duh
[20:43:26] <wjp> :-)
[20:55:14] <wjp> I need to go for an hour or so; bbl
[20:55:49] <Thump> yea, I should go also - good chatting with you
[20:56:06] <-- Thump has left #pentagram ("...and have a nice day")
[21:23:59] --> Dominus has joined #pentagram
[21:25:25] <Dominus> hey, I didn't even see the new layout of the log pages until I read through your talk with Thumper
[22:00:31] --- Dark-Star|away is now known as Dark-Star
[22:35:29] <wjp> :-)
[22:35:54] <Dominus> see=notice
[23:31:04] <-- Dominus has left IRC ("enough for now")
