[13:21:42] --> Darklock has joined #Pentagram
[14:46:11] --> Xavier_WER has joined #pentagram
[14:46:25] <Xavier_WER> anyone around
[15:15:22] <wjp> hi
[15:15:39] <Xavier_WER> this is the u8 pentagram irc right? :P
[15:16:12] <wjp> yes
[15:16:32] <Xavier_WER> ah cool
[15:17:29] <Xavier_WER> was looking to try and get hold of a game map of U8, not the "painted" one nor screenshots but more of a tile map
[15:18:40] <wjp> hm, I'm not sure what you mean
[15:18:54] <Xavier_WER> well sorta like the minimap
[15:19:47] <wjp> there are the ones in the hint booklet (pentology it was called, I think), but I don't think I've seen any others
[15:21:14] <Xavier_WER> yeah I found those, took quite a while to download
[15:21:32] <wjp> download? hm, I meant the paper version
[15:22:00] <Xavier_WER> also found a map extractor on the ultima archive ftp, but it seems to be for linux and I have no idea how to work with it
[15:24:39] <Xavier_WER> well anyway, a fullsize version of the map that is used as the minimap is what I need :)
[15:41:03] <wjp> the minimap is a (very crudely) scaled down version of the game world
[18:34:32] <Darklock>
[18:47:32] --> jtool12 has joined #pentagram
[18:47:51] <jtool12> hi
[18:50:34] <wjp> hi
[18:51:14] <Darklock> bonsoir
[18:53:00] <jtool12> hi wjp, boinsoir Darklock
[18:53:14] <jtool12> tried pentagram with the french version of u8 last night, works great
[18:53:32] <jtool12> I was impressed, great work
[18:53:44] <jtool12> i didn't think the project was that advanced
[18:53:58] <wjp> thanks :-)
[18:55:01] <jtool12> I'd tend to ask "what is not working" instead of "what is working" :)
[18:55:30] <wjp> there's still a fairly large list of things not working, but most of them aren't "critical" in some sense
[18:56:11] <Darklock> is it beatable without cheating btw?
[18:56:24] <wjp> it should be
[18:56:38] <Darklock> hehe, too big to test it?
[18:56:39] <wjp> I'm not aware of any plot-stopping bugs
[18:56:40] <jtool12> maybe it'd be nice to package a binary alpha version, that would attract more people
[18:56:55] <wjp> need to clean up a couple of things before that
[18:57:09] <wjp> setup/configuration, mainly
[18:59:36] <jtool12> ok
[19:01:24] <jtool12> i've heard other games were supported by the engine?
[19:03:38] <wjp> not yet
[19:04:25] <jtool12> is this because they were using the same Origin engine
[19:04:39] <wjp> yes
[19:08:34] <jtool12> is the original engine using some sort of script to define the behavior of npcs? the animations, the dialogs etc...?
[19:10:04] <wjp> yes, that's in the [efg]usecode.fx file. (The first letter depends on the language used)
[19:10:15] <wjp> um, [efg]usecode.flx
[19:10:45] <jtool12> ok. I see there is much documentation in the source package, that's cool.
[19:12:52] <jtool12> so you don't have to implement things related to the story right?
[19:13:14] <wjp> no
[19:13:34] <wjp> "just" a virtual machine for the usecode
[19:14:52] <jtool12> ok. well it's a lot of work still, but what's cool is the possibility to make work a totally different game with the same engine
[19:15:36] <jtool12> and is there a project attempting to create a script langage that could be compiled into usecode.fx ?
[19:16:22] <wjp> .flx; well, somewhat, but not really in any usable state
[19:18:33] <jtool12> ok. is there a plan to port exult to the pentagram engine? or is it a nonsense?
[19:19:24] <wjp> well, most of pentagram wouldn't be of use in exult, but we did already move some parts of pentagram code to exult
[19:19:34] <wjp> (such as the midi code)
[19:24:04] <jtool12> ok
[19:24:27] <jtool12> is the script langage part pf exult studio somehow? I didn't look at it yet
[19:25:14] <wjp> exult studio does have a compiler from a scripting language into Ultima 7's usecode
[19:29:29] <jtool12> ok. so it's not possible yet to make a game for exult or pentagram?
[19:29:58] <wjp> it should be possible for exult
[19:30:40] <jtool12> how would be the scriting defined?
[19:30:45] <jtool12> scripting
[19:31:55] <wjp> using the compiler I just mentioned :-)
[19:33:16] <jtool12> is it under "exult win32 tools" on the exult web site
[19:34:12] <wjp> there's some documentation at http://www.esguides.com/
[19:34:34] <wjp> I don't really know much about the windows side of things
[19:36:48] <jtool12> great, i didn't know about this site, thanks.
[19:37:51] <jtool12> but it's win32 only...argh
[19:38:11] <wjp> what is?
[19:40:18] <jtool12> well the tools
[19:40:42] <jtool12> but i'm probably wrong ;) until i find the other platform downloads
[19:41:14] <wjp> you might have to build them yourself
[19:41:42] <wjp> since we probably don't have any prebuilt binaries of the tools
[19:41:45] <jtool12> ok
[19:42:09] <jtool12> ok, that's not a problem
[21:00:17] <jtool12> have to go, bye
[21:00:22] <-- jtool12 has left IRC ("Quitting!")
[21:24:30] --> Kirben has joined #pentagram
