[09:35:30] <wjp> hi Ryan
[09:36:06] <wjp> I started writing a bit of an 'overview' of pentagram's internals this week
[09:36:27] <wjp> very briefly explaining objects, gumps, items, processes, usecode
[09:36:56] <wjp> (don't have it here at the moment, unfortunately)

[09:42:20] <Colourless> hiya willem
[09:42:32] <Colourless> a specific reason you've been doing that?
[09:43:36] <Kirben> Could the pentagram source code snapshots be automated via SF ? I don't see the point, if mine are only useful on Windows.
[09:52:34] <wjp> Colourless: not really :-)
[09:53:00] <wjp> Kirben: I could probably automate them here; I'd rather not run cron jobs on SF's shell server
[09:53:24] <wjp> Kirben: the line endings are what prevents the source .zip from cleanly building on linux
[09:54:19] <Kirben> ok, I guess exult source code snapshot suffers same issue too ?
[09:54:45] <wjp> probably, but maybe not; it uses a different build system
[09:55:09] <wjp> I'm not entirely sure which script and/or makefile breaks with dos endlines
[09:55:49] <wjp> I wonder if Windows builds would work with unix endlines
[09:57:38] <Kirben> ok, I will continue Exult source code snapshots, as long as they are useful.
[09:58:21] <Kirben> Converting endlines of entire source code would not be an option here.
[10:00:00] <Kirben> I always use cvs command line via shell, so didn't expect any issues with endlines.
[10:00:05] <Colourless> [19:25] <wjp> I wonder if Windows builds would work with unix endlines << generally yes. Only text files are annoying in windows
[10:00:19] <Colourless> since notepad choaks on unix line endings
[10:04:06] <Kirben> I wonder exactly which file(s) are the problem, the source code seems to have unix endlines on my system.
[10:06:16] <wjp> pentagram you mean?
[10:06:21] <Kirben> Yes.
[10:06:26] <wjp> let's see... *downloads*
[10:07:30] <wjp> while we're on the topic of snapshots, did you hear anything about the new snapshot release system from SF yet?
[10:08:43] <wjp> hm, indeed; all files have unix endlines (except for two: ./graphics/fonts/FixedWidthFont.cpp and .h)
[10:09:13] <wjp> maybe missing execute permissions were the problem
[10:09:29] <Kirben> Yes, was a recent response to my support request, mentioned I would be added to the beta testing when it was available and to watch out for option on my SF page.
[10:16:00] <wjp> it looks like the only thing preventing the snapshot .zip from building cleanly here is the lack of executable permission on some of the scripts
[10:16:42] <wjp> I'll need to think about that some other time
[10:17:04] <wjp> maybe it can be fixed with just a minor change to bootstrap
[10:18:52] <Kirben> I use Winzip to compress files (In order to exclude the CVS/SDL fliles), so I expect it drops those attribs.
[10:22:36] <wjp> build from the .zip finished succesfully after setting +x on bootstrap and all files in system/auto

[13:15:55] * megawatt cringes... eol issues.... I've been having quite a few of those here at work.... I maintain the Solaris port of one of our programs..... control-M's tend to kill all the scripts and are everywhere... yet it remains pointless to commit an eol change only to the repository... they'll only be back again... sigh. (I could set svn:eol-style=native on them though.. would help until someone...
[13:15:56] * megawatt ...commits a new file .. not sure if that would cause any speed issues)
[13:16:03] * megawatt goes back on topic.
[13:17:23] <megawatt> A source overview would actually be quite nice. Might help get new developers.
[13:18:40] <megawatt> Also a potentially good place to look at when thinking about changes.
